I only have to take 14 credits next semester but I have decided to add another class I am interested in and I now have 17 credits. The class is Phonetics, a study of "Sounds of the American language, emphasizing acoustic and physiologic aspects of articulation development and assessment."
I am considering going into speech and language pathology so I thought I should check it out before I finish school. It won't cost me any more because the rate is the same for 12+ credits. I think they cap it off at 19 or 20?
Its an online class and its a sophmore class so it can't be that much work. If it is I can still drop it.
I'm so excited to be taking another class!!! I'm just excited about the spring semester altogether!!! Last semester of classes!!! Woo-hoo!
I don't remember the rest of that poem but it says something about going to market to buy a fat pig...
Anyway, I'm back in Flagstaff. Thanksgiving was great even though I was all keyed up the entire time because I brought my Chinese roommate with me and I wanted to make a good traditional American impression. At the same time its hard to relax when you have a guest who you are not very familiar with and don't have a lot in common with. But we all survived and now I am "home" and finishing up projects this week, finals next week and then one week of work and then I go home again on the 19th for two whole weeks!!!
Going home for the holidays!!! I just wish Tucson wasn't so blazing hot on a holiday that is supposed to be wintry and cozy! Oh well, beggars can't be choosers!
Happy Thanksgiving all!!! :)

My roommate this year is from China. She asks a lot of questions, of course, about America. Thus far, I've not thought any of her questions to be too far out of the ordinary and I think I've been able to answer them fairly intelligently. However, when I told her I didn't know who the Chairman of China was, she thought I was pretty dumb (to be blunt). 100 brownie points goes to the person who can tell me his name.
One of her friends stopped by tonight and wanted to ask a question on a rather ordinary topic that people talk about everyday, between classes and over dinner. Typical water-cooler talk, you know. She wanted to know the average cost of electricity per person per year in the US.
Oh yeah, I know that right off the top of my head! I think about it constantly. I worry about how to lower per person costs of electricity. It keeps me up at night sometimes....
Just kidding. I don't even know how much my parents pay in electricity! I think that sometimes in the summer when the AC is cranked up the bills may go as high as $300/month. I told I had no idea and she asked to me guess so I told her what I thought Mom and Dad pay per month. But she seemed surprised that I didn't know. Why should I know that??? Sure its a good thing to know but when you have a million other things to worry about and paying the electric bill (because utilities are wrapped up in your rent) is not one of them, then you can't spend time and brain energy worrying about it.
I will be so glad when I can switch roommates in February...why they can't do it in January, I don't know but I was told I would have to wait till February. It's not that my roommate and her friends aren't nice. It's just that I feel constantly bombarded with the holier-than-thou attitude that non-Americans have towards Americans. I should have asked her if she knew what the cost per person per year of electricity was in China. I just wish they wouldn't think I'm stupid when I don't know the answers to trivial matters like that. I feel like they are trying to trip me up to see just how dumb Americans really are. Or maybe I just have a complex because Asians are stereotyped as highly intelligent. I don't know but its driving me nuts!!!
For electricity it depends on where you are. I pay about $80 in the summer and about $50 in the winter. So far with gas those two bills have come to about $100 per month.
I think my laptop needs to be cleaned...maybe? It makes an awful lot of noise and sometimes it kicks it into high geer like its getting ready to take off the runway. I think the fan inside probably needs to be dusted. I've had this thing for 4 years now and its probably getting a little dusty in there... Also my backspace key needs to be fixed. Every once in a while it just pops out.
But...
How do I accomplish this task????
I know my mother used to take her sewing machine and vacuum cleaner to be cleaned at a shop that specifically exists to clean such feminine household items. But nowadays vacuums are so cheap that they don't last very long and its cheaper to replace one than to spend money on getting it cleaned.
When I was a kid the only TV we had was an old RCA that my parents had bought on clearance at J.C. Penney the year before I was born. When I was 8 it stopped showing color. We could still watch TV but it was all in black and white. So mom took it to the repair shop. When we picked it up the repairman said he didn't know what was wrong with it and how he had fixed it but it worked now. I think we had to take it in one of other time but after that it worked. It finally died in 2000. It put up quite a fight though. First it stopped showing color again. Then the color came back but in rainbow streaks across the TV. The antennas weren't doing any wonders either. If one of us stood in just the right place the rest of us could sit comfortably and watch the evening news in rainbow colors. It makes me feel slightly old knowing that I outlived a beloved household appliance that was a part of the family before I was even a twinkle in my mothers eye...
Sappy sentiments for household appliances aside...
How do I get my computer cleaned??? I have found various instructional videos online about how to clean your computer but I don't want to do it myself, I'm afraid I'll mess something up. So...
Is there such a thing as a computer cleaning service and if so where could I find such a service?
I know this laptop won't live as long as our loyal RCA (its already becoming obselete as I still am using Office 2003) but I need to hang on to it for at least two more years.
Johnny Bosch WOULD be my future husband if it weren't for the fact that he's already someone ELSES. :( And the fact that he's 19 yrs older than me, and he lives in California. :P
