Rumor has it a sequel is in the works. I don't know what to think of that.
We managed to start our World of Warcraft tabletop last week. Only one of them has actually gamed with me before, but the others seem enthusiastic. Two Night Elves, a Dwarf, and a Human. I'm interested to see what turns it will take.
It's been nice meeting a few new people this year. It seems hard to believe that I'm nearly through with college, but I am. I still don't know what to make of it.
I'm listening to Billy Ray Cyrus' newest song, and it's so puzzling to me. Not the song, really, but I can remember when "Achy Breaky Heart" swamped the radio. And we heard pretty much nothing out of him for ten years other than he was a doctor on PAX TV? But the Disney Channel revived his career and made his daughter the most popular teen act in the world, and I find that amazing. It's a feeling very close to nostalgia and yet not quite. Life goes on for people, even celebrities, and it seems strange to see them resurface like that. See also: New Kids on the Block. Seriously, guys, 14 years? Who decided they needed to get back together? I don't even remember them other than the name.
This was a bit of a digression, but ah well. Grace and peace to all of you. Have a good day.
Before this update, there was a post at the bottom of this page. It says many of the things I'd like to say now. I've neglected this site for a long time, and I should have paid it much closer attention this past month. I wish I had, now, but it matters little.
I've realized that I don't have much of a future. It's not that I think my future will be particularly bad, but I simply don't have plans for it. People keep asking what I'll do with my major, and I don't know. I may go into technical writing, journalism, straight into preaching (I consider this unlikely), or who knows what else. I don't know where I'll go after graduation. But I pray that God will care for me in whatever I do and that He will work a bright future for me. He has until now.
For most, it is a three-day weekend. Be safe and enjoy your rest.
It has been a hard week, as many of you know, and for those that do not I will not speak more. I hope that I have your prayers, dear ones, and that life will take a better turn soon. Grace and peace to all of you. Have a good day.
I still think you'll be a famous poet. Or write some spectacular book and earn millions. And I'll invite you to my fancy schmancy famous people parties after I star on Broadway. :)
stephanie is wrong. there hasn't been a famous poet since 1609. name the worlds most famous poet today...you can't. anyway, you should come work for me.
Today? Maybe Maya Angelou, perhaps Shel Silverstein, possibly Jack Prelutzky. Since 1609? Wow, too many to choose. I'm still thinking novelist/preacher. I could see journalism as a way to supplement your income until you get published, but technical writing wouldn't allow enough creativity for you. Just my opinion, of course.
never heard of any of them. i'm sure they get stopped all the time in starbucks and asked for their autographs. they are probably sick of dealing with the paparazi.
The Wife of Bath is my favorite character. Not necessarily my moral compass, but a great character. The Prioress probably comes in second. It's always nice to be thought of. Hope your weeks are better now.
There's a lot to report, but I don't suppose it's all that important. It's not even 10 a.m. and I finished two exams by 9:20. *sigh* It's been a busy few days, but they're almost over.
Work has begun again. Tuesday was pretty much insane--I think we had 19 kids less than 8 years old. That is not a good recipe for tennis courts. Personally, I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't start until you can hold a racquet, but they don't pay me for my opinions.
Spring break's in a couple of weeks. It will be a welcome relief.
Our "Curse of the Werelion" short won a Leo for "Best Individual Short Film." The award also earned us a $100 gift card to Best Buy, though we haven't decided what to do with it yet. In related news, talks are underway about a possible sequel, and a Facebook group has begun for anyone who'd like to see it (try "Were-Pride").
I'm pretty tired, so I think I'll end here. Maybe I'll update soon.
Grace and peace to all of you. Have a good day.
Edit: Whenever it finishes processing, "Curse of the Werelion" will also now be on YouTube.
Oh, so it really did win an award? I thought you were just joking. And "Best Individual Short Film", no less. That's impressive. Now, I know what you should do with the gift card: put it towards a Wii!
You should so update. I know I'd be updating if I were engaged. And my engagement post would be the online equivalent of a nuclear explosion, it would be so intense. Except, you know, no one would die. That analogy doesn't go beyond the intensity.
Maybe I'll be like my brother and go to once-a-year updates.
But in all seriousness, I made it through finals and all the whatever I had to do. It's kind of funny, but I'm not sure I could tell you half the things I was busy with right off the top of my head. I think that's okay, though--most of the day-to-day life doesn't have dire importance.
The break's been pretty good. The worst part is that we're back in school on Wednesday, but it's been (mostly) relaxing. I spent several days in Georgia with Leisa before returning to Florence. We have a house now, so I actually have a bed again. Leisa came for Christmas, and she's been here since then as well. Can't say we've done a whole lot, but it's been relaxing. She's tried to average about 12 hours asleep each day, so I think she's enjoyed her time off.
Speaking of Christmas, I got a "Dwarven Mine" Lego set from her. They even threw in a couple of goblins and a troll. John saw it and said, "Man!"
My dad and I have been working out at the Court House, which is good. I kind of started back at the end of last semester with James but wasn't going as consistently.
A couple of weeks ago I was in Books-A-Million browsing the D&D section when something caught my eye: "World of Warcraft: The Role-Playing Game." Sure enough, it was a pencil-and-paper d20 system using the Warcraft campaign setting and incorporating a few elements of the MMORPG. Well, I'd seen it before and flipped through the book, but it got an idea in my head that I couldn't shake. I was pretty sure John and Faith Williams would go for it, so I talked to our current DM and asked if he'd want to try something different for a while. I got a gift card to BAM for Christmas, but when I went, they didn't have a copy left on the shelves. Hmm...well, it was cheaper to ship it online, and because they shipped it from the Florence location, I got it within two days of ordering. It's not very much different than the D&D Player's Handbook, but it does have better artwork and some new stuff. Also, I'm the new Game Master (as Dungeon Master is specifically reserved for Dungeons & Dragons).
I should play basketball more.
That's all I can think of for the moment, but maybe I'll come back soon. Or not.
So I vote on you changing my friend link as I stopped having your old teachers my first semester in college it seems like :] I heard that you met my parents...briefly...the other day.
It's November now, so the end of the semester is roughly a month away. It's a good thing I perform under pressure, because I have (roughly) half a Creative Writing portfolio, several weeks of Math Honors Seminar work, two Feature Writing articles, and a Life of Jesus essay to finish by then. Sounds fun.
Work has gone well this semester, and after Tuesday night I'll be finished until spring. I'm kind of ambivalent to it--I don't have to go anymore, but I also won't get paid.
I really should update more often. Writing is a good habit, certainly if you're a writer. But I get tired of writing sometimes because I do so much and then hate coming here to do more. Ms. Garner (our creative writing teacher) thinks it's good to have a weblog. I'm the only one in our class with one, and I don't take advantage of it.
But here's the introduction of a piece I worked on for this week, just so you don't think I don't write enough.
"He sits in a black floor chair, a pair of yellow-handled pliers in each hand. Across his orange and yellow pajamas sits the white lid of a plastic tub balancing open and closed rings of galvanized steel. Despite its anachronistic nature, Gladiator plays on the TV as he twists the rings together. To his right a coil of wire waits if he needs more links. Though it’s past midnight, he’s hoping to complete the mail hauberk, or shirt, before the Renaissance Fair tomorrow. He counts out the finished rings carefully, needing only four squares of twelve links each to finish the sleeves and rest. Like thousands of blacksmiths over the centuries, John Sugg is practicing a nearly ancient craft: the art of making chainmail armor."
It also doesn't help that our dorm internet won't work. *sigh*
That's a very colorful introduction. Is that Anita Garner? I think I remember her from when I was an adjunct there. If I'm remembering correctly, she made gave us all handmade Christmas ornaments one year. She was really sweet.
I could only think of one scenario that would involve a guy with two pairs of pliers and yellow-and-orange pajamas, and John Sugg doing chain mail was it.
