Occasionally, a serious thought does cross my mind and come out in a poem! About a week ago I read a Wordpoint by Gary Henry called Delight In God in which he encouraged us to think that God is delightful. The word delight means "extreme satisfaction or something that gives us great pleasure." The Psalmist tells us in Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart." Delightful is such a great word and not used much anymore. It denotes pleasure but good, pure and wholesome pleasure - the kind that can only come from a loving and giving God. To think of God as delightful is something that will truly lift your spirits and help you through those troubled times. These are the thoughts that inspired this poem.
GOD IS DELIGHTFUL!

God is delightful!
Have you thought of such a thing?
When the leaves turn green and flowers bloom
And the sun shines in the Spring?
When the gray and white of winter
Take on that colorful hue,
When the colors dance in the breezes,
Is God delightful to you?
When the rain comes in the nighttime,
And the morning wakes brand new,
Do you praise Him for His goodness?
Is He always in your view?
God is delightful!
Have you looked into His Word?
Do you let Him guide you daily?
Have you listened? Have you heard?
When you read of His protection
And He offers you His peace,
Are you thrilled to have Him near you?
Do your worries seem to cease?
Have you ever known such kindness,
Such love that hides our faults,
That He gave His Son to save us?
Are you awed by such a thought?
God is delightful!
His Spirit He outpours,
He gives us wings as eagles,
He makes our spirits soar!
He knows our every heartache,
He counts our very hairs,
When others may desert us,
We know He’s always there!
So lift your hands to praise Him!
His kindness lasts for life;
He’ll give to you your heart’s desire,
When you find in Him delight!
Hordes of June bugs have arrived at my house! What is up with them? One night all is calm in my garage and the next night we are invaded with these buzzing, flying, bumping, crawling, creepy insects! And they're dumb as a stumb to boot. I mean, they never know where they are going - they must be blind! They run into things at random, bumping and buzzing their way blindly along trying to find their god - the Light! And when they do - ZAP!! That's it! Their DEAD! What kind of god is that? They never learn, just pass on some odd instint to their young: "Hurry! Buzz toward the Light! You'll run into many hazards along the way - sticky cobwebs, people feet, ladies with big hair as well as water bowls with that deadly water, etc. - but don't let that stop you! Head for the Light! You'll die when you get there, but, hey, who cares? You'll love it!" And they just keep right on doing the same thing and then when you get up in the morning and go out in your garage there they are, all 1000...dead. I guess that somehow they offer some stability to the balance of nature and if I had my wish and they all suddenly disappeared off the planet, some horrible thing would happen. Something would starve, I suppose, but what?? What eats June bugs other than...that's it! If there were no June bugs, the Light would starve and die and we would all be suddenly thrown into this world of bleak, albeit June bugless darkness...! Well, since it is highly unlikely that June bugs are going to disappear, I will, in the meantime, keep my garage light off at night and hope they all go to worship some other hungry Light in the neighborhood!
that's why I would be a one-of-a-kind......skydiving accountant....I like the sound of that. I can just drop right into your living room to take care of your taxes :-)
Let's see, love New Mexico? That is one place in serious need of a state-wide home owners association. I just love dirt and weed front yards, with various pieces of decaying furniture and rusting cars as nonexistent lawn decorations. I guess if the entire state remained in a perpetual shroud of darkness I just might be able to tolerate it.
Okay, it's time for the scorpion story to go! It's almost scorpion season again and I don't want to be reminded!
What a day it was yesterday! A sad day but also a great day. Great because how often do we see such an outpouring of love and compassion? The huge crowd at Gus' funeral was a real tribute to the Beck family. And imagine all those lives and many others who were touched by little Gus Beck! But the greatest thing, the greatest thing of all, was this tremendous reminder of the comfort and hope that we find in Jesus Christ our Lord! Many thoughts crossed my mind during the day but the one I come back to is I Know where Baby Gus is and I want to go there! But though Gus was innocent, I am far from it! And so Jesus died for me! Oh, what a Savior! How can one feel such sadness and such gladness at the same time? The emotions of the day were incredible. And there is nothing, nothing in the world that can sweeten the loss of a child except hope in Jesus! Unbelievers are missing so much!
To the Beck family - I am so sorry for your loss because I know you feel real pain. But I admire you so much because in your pain, you chose to direct the short life of your child to the honor and glory of God. Thank you for sharing Gus with us! I love you!
what a great post! You're always so encouraging. And the Beck family definitely is a very encouraging and strong family. They amaze me at their strength and faith!!...see you next week...will miss you and everyone this weekend
I hate to even tell my story as it is somewhat embarrassing so for you sensitive ones, you might want to turn away. I was, hmmm, in the bathroom, minding my own business, if you know what I mean, when a Scorpion came strolling casually out of the closet. That would be about 3 feet from me for those who don't know... Said Scorpion was headed straight for my PJ's with evil intent in his eyes so I quickly began hollaring and banging on the wall (I had no shoe with me at the time, needless to say). Of course, my hero husband couldn't hear me, being quite deaf at times! So I had to step OVER the GIANT SCORPION (okay, maybe not Giant), and open the door and hollar louder. Finally, my reluctant hero came and gallently (not!) killed the beast with his shoe. This was not a pleasant experience to say the least. I'd rather have a June Bug!
I once lived in a trailer house where wasps would make thier way inside every day. So every day, I would have to steel myself to kill at least one wasp. I HATED it. I used to say that I hate anything that flies and stings, but I hate scorpoins, too.
I helped my brother with his pest control business for a short while. There was one house we did that was unoccupied. We opened the door, and the floor was COVERED in scorpions! I was glad I had boots on!
