Take your needle...and work at your pattern; it will come out a rose by and by. Life is like that-one stitch at a time taken patiently and the pattern will come out all right like the embroidery.OWH
For a new entry :)
So I thought I'd share some of my favorite Bible verses.
1 Sam 16:7
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
2 Cor 4: 15-18
For all things [are] for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward [man] is renewed day by day.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding [and] eternal weight of glory;
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen [are] temporal; but the things which are not seen [are] eternal.
Jer. 29:11-13
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Ps. 13:6
I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
Rom 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.
Deut 31:8
And the LORD, He [is] the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed."
2 Peter 1:2-3
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
as His divine power has given to us all things that [pertain] to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
Ecc 3:1-8
To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Ps 18:32-33
[It is] God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
He maketh my feet like hinds' [feet], and setteth me upon my high places.
Great verses. That last verse reminded me that I haven't gotten around to reading the book Hind's Feet on High Places. I need to remember to do that. =)
Another verse that I like is Proverbs 24:3-4 (ESV)
By wisdom a house is built,
and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled
with all precious and pleasant riches.
And another: Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
And again! I hope you don't mind. =) James 5:12
Above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any oath, but let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
Here's a passage that I really, really like. I thought about putting it my signature thing on gmail, but I figured it's a bit long:
Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is strong as death,
jealousy is fierce as the grave.
It's flashes are the flashes of fire,
the very flame of the Lord.
Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
all the wealth of his house,
he would be utterly despised.
~ Song of Solomon 8:6-7
'Tis such a powerful, and beautiful description. =)
Why do you say, O Jacob,
and speak, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the Lord,
And my right is disregarded by my God"?
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might He increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and grow weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
~ Isaiah 40:27-31
To the Choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
Have mercy on me, O God,
According to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in Your sight,
so that you may be justified in Your words
and blameless in Your judgment.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, You delight in truth in the inward being,
and You teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that You have broken rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Your presence,
and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of Your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
and sinners will return to You.
Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of Your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare Your praise.
For You will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
You will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
Do good to Zion in Your good pleasure;
build up the walls of Jerusalem;
then will You delight in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;
then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
Sorry, that was a bit long. But its powerful all the way through. Feel free to delete it if you don't like all the space it's taking up. :)
I'll try to restrain myself and not post anymore, unless you tell me to go ahead. =)
We are headed down to Abalama tomorrow to visit the relatives on Mother's side of the family, then we're heading back next weekend. And it sounds, right now, like we'll be stopping by the Calvert's on the way home, as our uncle won't be home on the return trip. =)
Like he said, Leaving tomorrow, going to Uncle Glenn's house in Arkansas. Then going to Alabama for Thanksgiving and a partial Christmas thing while we're down there. Then I believe we are planning on going to the Calvert's on the next Friday, and getting home on Saturday, Lord willing. =)
Abalama? LOL!! It looks just as good that way! Headed to my parents' abode in southern Indiana for the day. It will be a Doggy Thanksgiving, because we are all insane about our dogs.
We are staying right here...tho were wishing to share our Thanksgiving with anyone that might need a family for the day. but if not....we'll dutifully intertain ourselves! ha
I'm just bouncing all over Pleonast now. So many people to find and add, so little... okay not really, since I'll have plenty of time when we return, Lord willing. =P
L-J was begging me to do something with or for her...
L-J: "But I'm your biggest fan!"
Me: "You blow me away!"
Wasn't that dreadful?!
And than a charming quote from a book I'm listening to while I sew:
"Despereaux stared up at her in wonder. The Pea, he decided, looked just like the picture of the fair maiden in the book in the library. The princess smiled at Despereaux again, and this time, Despereaux smiled back. And then, something incredible happened. The mouse fell in love.
"Reader, you may ask this question. In fact, you must ask this question. Is it ridiculous for a very small, sickly, big-eared mouse to fall in love with a beautiful human princess named Pea? The answer is, yes, of course it's ridiculous. Love is ridiculous. But love is also wonderful and powerful. And Despereaux's love for the Princess Pea would prove in time to be all of these things: Powerful, wonderful, and ridiculous."
I remember listening to that story once on a trip a few years back. That's a very nice quote, from a very enjoyable tale. =D Thanks for bringing it back to mind.
That isa rather dreadful pun. I'm not into making puns, even though I do occasionally make them myself. *rolls eyes* Yeah...I DID say "you will be punished" to a friend who had made a horrendous pun. I can't really figure out what made me say it either...
Please, please, keep us in your prayers!
It's getting so exciting as the wedding date gets closer and closer, but also more hectic. Please pray that nothing unpleasant or unexpected occurs, and that we are all able to keep our sanity!
(Oh, and that the weather is nice on Saturday!)
6 days!!!
~~
251 Sausage Cheese Biscuit Balls are made!
Everyone has everything they'll need for their wedding outfits!
Jeremy has moved into their house!
Table decorations are all figured out!
So much has been done!!
(Sorry, Elise, that's quite a lot of exclamation points :D)
I can very much imagine that this will be a very hectic week for you all. But I do think that the exclaimation points are well validated. ;D I will most definitely keep you in my prayers. =D
We did some costume photo-shooting yesterday (Sunday), but before we post the pictures, Andrew is planning to do some editing to place us into some of the pictures from our South Dakota trip. A little more appropriate backgrounds to our costumes. However, since Andrew doesn't have much time, it might be a while. And I'm not all that great at that sort of photoshopping, otherwise I might try to do some. =P
Thank you. =) I told Zach that the internet had better not stay down much longer, because I might keep adding more and more songs to it. I can think of several that are great wedding songs... But I *think* those two are my favorites. =)
Finally found your post with the words to "Be Still, My Soul" after looking for it for... probably at least 20 minutes. *Sheepish look* It probably wouldn't have taken so long if I hadn't gotten caught up rereading some of your old entries. ;) And if I had noticed the one titled "I love this song!" before resigning myself to looking for it the "hard" way. I guess it might have been quicker to check CyberHymnal, but I don't know if they have it, and where's the fun in that. ;D
