For those of you that didn't know, the last two days, I was in Atlanta, Georgia. I got to visit the Chick-Fil-A corporate offices for a trip called "Vision and Values." We got to see the Truett Cathy's first restaurant the "Dwarf House," where he first invented the chicken sandwich, the first Chick-Fil-A and a ton of other places.
We talked about the values that make Chick-Fil-A special. And we got to go to the corporate offices and meet and personally talk to some of the most influential people in the company. I got the cell-phone number of the HEAD of the operator selection committee in case I have any questions, or want help on knowing exactly what they're looking for!
Overall it was an amazing experience. I'm so excited to be part of this company.
Oh yeah! And at the end, they had 4 caricature artists to draw us and a part of our CFA journey. I loved it, I've been wanting a caricature for a really long time, I think they're cool. So he drew me with balloons, since that's what I did before coming to Chick-Fil-A, and they still have me do some at kid's nights.
I hope you all love your jobs; I do!!
Oh yeah again! I also heard an amazing quote from the President of CFA (Dan Cathy, Truett's son) that said "The moment you stop reading books, that's as smart as you'll ever be." And it really hit me. So I've made a commitment to read two books a month. Real books, on how to manage and motivate people, think creatively, problem solve and the like. I'm doing good, I've already finished two, and I'm working on my third in two days!

I laughed so hard when I found this..
"Error Message: Your Password Must Be at Least 18770 Characters and Cannot Repeat Any of Your Previous 30689 Passwords. Please type a password that meets these requirements in both text boxes."
I just found this today in a stack of CDs!
For those of you that don't know, I won my computer several years ago. I love this story, so I'm going to share it with you. I had decided after my first year of college that my balloon job was going so well that I was going to live in FL over the summer and continue working. I found a friend from school that had a house about 30 minutes away from campus and he offered me to stay with him rent free!
Unfortunately, my job only kept me occupied 2-3 nights a week. A blessing while in college, but was killing me of boredom when I had nothing else to do. And for SOME reason, I had it in my head that I had no money. I think now that I did have money, but at the time, I believed I had none. So I didn't eat much. Potatoes, cereal, paper... you know, the usual poor-person's diet.
I was driving to try and stay occupied one Saturday morning with my windows down (Because it was summer in Florida, and my car had no AC whatever) and a girl pulled next to me at a stoplight and jumped out of her car, placed a flier in my passenger seat and said "Come to our openhouse, you could win a computer, and there's free food!"
I swear, the only reason I went was for the free food.
But, it turns out the contest was to make a music video for a local band, using homemade videos that you could download using Verizon's new internet service.
I had found something to do! Every day for 4-5 hours I went in as soon as they opened and worked on my video. I made friends with the people there, and got to watch movies and play games when I wasn't working.
At the end of the contest, the employees were going to go out for a celebration "We're done, yay" dinner. I was invited along, since they knew me so well by that time. I got to eat a $90 meal at an invitation-only clubhouse. And the next week, I went to the closing ceremonies and discovered I had won grand prize with my video (above). It included a nice $2500 scholarship for my next year of FC, and my awesome computer. I also won $500 worth of Verizon services, which I gave to my friend who had let me stay at his house.
Isn't amazing how God's providence works? I was really just expecting one meal.
I was leisurely going about my business on my computer, about to reinstall an old game I wanted to play again (Roller Coaster Tycoon) when my computer told me "I'm sorry, you don't have enough space on your hard drive for that."
Let me tell you.. I was shocked.
I have a 300 Gigabyte hard drive - and I had 5 gigs free.
So be proud. I've been searching the nooks and crannies of my hard drive deleting things I installed on a whim three years ago. I'm proud to say, I have nearly 100 gigs free again. After installing my game!
I've always said, you'll max out whatever you have. I remember my first computer with it's upgraded 32 KBs of memory, and its 8 gig hard drive. I filled that thing up and it lasted me well.
Give a shout if you have more useless junk than you need on your computer too!
i cleared 300 gb of hdd space yesterday. Most of it was redundant information that i saved for backup purposes... but it does feel good. now if only i could get the video drivers to work for linux :(
i have just over 600 mb free right now, i was down to about 100 for a while. i really need to clean it up. i have old papers form FC that aren't even mine and junk like that. now to find the time to go through it all...
All this computer jargon is like Greek to me but I do understand the principle. It's the same thing as carrying a purse...the bigger the purse the MORE STUFF you decide to shove in it that you just can't live without. So you get a bigger purse and then it fills up and you have to get a bigger purse, etc. OR just throw out some of the JUNK! The important thing, though, is that you once again get to play Roller Coaster Tycoon! :) Have a lovely day!
We have junk on them and my husband is the one to clean them off. When the start running too slow, he finds out why, cleans them up and lets me know that they are running better.
Tripp just set up our old computer for the girls to play their games, etc, and set up a brand new, empty computer for us. So ours is clean, but theirs needs to be worked on. :)
I think I remember that game. Is that the one where you set up your own ammunsement park? I was just thinking about that one the other day.
btw, I love rollercoaster tycoon - there was that one rollercoaster you could get that, if you cranked the speed all the way up, it would fling off of it's tracks and explode in the woods!
