Everybody & their mother knows about this video 11-18-08 08:29pm CST

Skip it to 2:11 and watch from there. Lemme know what you think :).

trevaesa

Ouch! And I think the coffee table came out unscathed...

kerrigan

I don't get it.

emersonk78

Ummm... guilty pleasure alert... I laughed.

preacherdavetx

Slapstick... still the best comedy.

adamandjessesdad

I don't understand why she would record that... and then go ahead and post it.

kerrigan

Well, the fall was kinda funny. I'm not sure why I was instructed to watch from there, though. It stopped being funny after a couple of minutes of moaning...

kimhazelrigg

I was crying. But like comments above, why would you post a video of yourself like that for the whole world to see?

gracie03

Um, I kinda like the fact that she had one black sock on and one white before she put her "singin' shoes" on. :)

plato

It got a good laugh out of me!

trevaesa

Maybe she didn't post it... perhaps she e-mailed it to a sibling or friend because she thought they'd get a laugh out of it... and then the sibling or friend posted it. Who knows...

willis

hey man go read my post I would like to know what you think

preacherdavetx

you don't know the half of it. shhhh.

Votes are in: I'm staying 11-15-08 01:48pm CST

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement from everyone. I've taken it to heart.

In leiu of Kris' suggestion to post something light, I'll regale you with how I made a fool of myself at the student health center yesterday.

I went by @ 4:00 pm to see if I could have some tests run next week just to check my overall health. The PA said that was fine.

He then proceeds to do the usual checkups just to as a precaution. The stethoscope and deep breathing was involved.

Then, he says "Lie on your back". This was new to me. So I laid back. Once I'm on my back, he pulls my shirt up. I thought: Here comes a cold stethoscope.

Surprise: it was his hand. A man's hand on my stomach. I'm not used to that.

Now, when God made me, He said "Thou shalt be ticklish". It is embarrassing how ticklish I am. Surprise pokes from those that know me well often provoke yells and broad jumps on my part.

The guy is checking organs I'm assuming, and as soon as he puts his hand on me I start to giggle uncontrollably. I'm immediately embarrassed, but also spasmodic, so I can't control it. My arms tense up, and my body starts to wiggle. I start to holler for dear life.

He stops and I say "I'm sorry, but I can't help it. I'm ticklish".

He says "Its okay - you're not the first and you won't be the last".

I can only imagine how those outside reacted to the noise.

emersonk78

I've got the mental picture. I am laughing.

kerrigan

hahaha that's awesome experience has taught me, while giving patients baths, do not lightly wash the soles of the feet. do so quickly and firmly to avoid getting kicked by the ticklish.

kirbyj2

I always feel weird when they do that. A family doctor I used to have would "knock" (only word I can think of to describe the procedure) on my stomach. I had to fight the urge to laugh every time.

tangsoodotpm

I tried to fight it. When I'm tickled I revert to a toddler state of mind. Its almost Pavlovian.

trevaesa

lol

Glad you decided to stay.

leahsparks

ha ha ha ha ha ha

preacherdavetx

Closing up shop...again 11-01-08 11:42am CST

First, thanks to everyone for wishing me a happy b.day. Having friends like y'all makes it worth celebrating!

Second, it is time for me to shut this thing down for good. I can't make this work like I want it to.

I'm confusing people with my inquisitive approach to all things, but namely politics and economics. My objective criticisms of the current administration and the two we are most likely to get are giving people the wrong impression. Perhaps my language is a bit too radical, but I don't see where what I'm saying is really that bizarre. Although, I'll grant you that I was wrong to call Bush a dummy (thank you, Scott). I do think he is a foolish man in the sense that he is arrogant, and a haughty person is often referred to as a fool in Scripture, but the idea is of a man who will not listen to God, not one who is mentally incompetent. His policies are the problem, not his person.

But just the same, I can't NOT confuse most of my readers here unless I only question religion or leftists.

The same goes for those at the university: I can't NOT confuse them because while I will question the authority for Bush's policies, in the next breath I will defend a couple that have been married for 45 years as a good thing because that is "what God intended" and speak out against abortion. It throws them too.

I question religion, medicine, politics, economics, and society as a whole, for what I hope are good reasons. But I don't think this is a good forum for what I think, and maybe what I think is not edifying to some of the readers. I don't mean that to be the case; I'm striving for truth and illumination.

Please don't think that I have any ill-will towards any of you. I appreciate the questioning. But I don't think I'm accomplishing what I would like to here, so it is time for me to give this thing up...again.

My contact info will be left for anyone who wants to stay in touch. I'll leave this post up for a few days and then try to see if Kennon has a way of wiping it all out.

Godspeed.

Great point!

nickkrumrei

As iron sharpens iron, only by discourse with people whom we disagree can we see other perspectives. I ask you to hang in there. Momma always told me to speak my heart. Be true to yourself, whether people agree or disagree is not the point. Please stay. Your thoughts and your passion are vitally important.

gracie03

Don't go. :) I vote for Todd for President! Oh, wait, I have my votes confused - well, maybe not. I should have written you in. :) Please stay!

afox

Hi Todd, I vote for you to stay too. I don't know you well, but you know my sister (Valerie) and parents (Gregg and Lauren). I have somewhat lurked on your blog here, because I find your posts fascinating. You are well-spoken and passionate, which are great things. I like the suggestion of others for you to have more fun with it every once in a while, but I don't think you should stop the opinions altogether. That's what a personal blog is...a place for people to get things off their chest, voice their opinions, get feedback and start dialogues. So I vote for you to stay!

the_gaffer

Well said^!

trevaesa

Thank you for staying true to what you believe and striving to show others the light.

tryphena

I just found you. Don't leave!

emmywoo

preacherdavetx

Hey Man, Look... your self censorship would be a win for both the Democrats and Republicans! If you leave, they win!

rick_the_desk_clerk

I enjoy your posts Todd, don't leave!

gracie03

So, can we get an update on your decision? :)

sharbyheart

Todd, I probably should have said this sooner, but didn't want to say the wrong things. I have wanted to say that since finding your blog some time back, I have really admired you as a young man who "dreams dreams" but keeps the word of God close to your heart. We need visionaries and men who want to change the world! My only concern has been that you may become disillusioned when other Christians do not see things just as you do and that it may one day affect your faith. My father did that, and while I can look back and say that I admire his willingness to stand by his convictions, I can also see that he let his own convictions stand between him and God. You would be amazed at how closely some of your observations and comments regarding politics and constitutionalism mirror his views. Just please remember that God's will overrides anything we think or see here on this earth. I know you do, I just fear for the future if disillusionment or bitterness over these things should enter your heart. I look forward to how you choose to go from here. ~fwiw~

plato

Wow, great thoughts. Really.

Yeah bro, Happy B-day. You've given us your actual age. Now what is your brain age? Your body age? And... your spirit age?

emersonk78

I'll go first in that order: 20,40,and about 9.

Happy birthday! I forgot you were older than me... it must be because you are so immature and unreasonable for your age. Haha, :P

Oldie but Goodie 10-27-08 01:08pm CST

Badger: "In fact...you are not defining the ants as fascists or communists because they fight wars, but because..."

Merlyn: "I am lumping all three sects together on their basic assumption, which is, ultimately, to deny the rights of the individual."

Badger: "I see."

Merlyn: "Theirs is the totalitarian theory: that men or ants exist for the sake of the state or world, not vice versa."

Badger: "And why did you say that Marx was bad at natural history?"

Merlyn: "The character of my old friend Karl...is outside the province of this committee. Kindly remember that we are not sitting on communism, but on the problem of organised murder. It is only in so far as communism is contingent with war, that we are concerned with him at all. With this proviso I reply to your question as follows: that Marx was a bad naturalist because he committed the gross blunder of over-looking the human skull in the first place...because he suscribed to the Egalite Fallacy, which is abhorrent to nature. Human beings are no more equal in their merits and abilities, than they are equal in face and stature. You might just as well insist that all the people in the world should wear the same size of boot..."

Badger: "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity..."

Merlyn: "Liberty, Brutality and Obscenity...You should try living in some of the revolutions which use that slogan. First they proclaim it: then they announce that the aristos must be liquidated, on high moral grounds, in order to purge the party or to prune the commune or to make the world safe for democracy; and then they rape and murder everybody they can lay their hands on, more in sorrow than in anger, or crucify them, or torture them in ways which I do not care to mention. You should have tried the Spanish Civil War. Yes, that is the equality of man. Slaughter anybody who is better than you are, and then we shall be equal soon enough. All equally dead."

tangsoodotpm

As quoted from The Book of Merlyn

adamandjessesdad

I need to read that. Actually, I need to read The Once and Future King, since I never finished it in high school.

We were watching a show about the Democracy in Athens last night. This Democratic government was a true democracy, where everyone voted on everything. They loved Socrates, at first, and celebrated freedom of speech. Then, he became simply an eccentric to them. Eventually, they executed him because they felt his speech, and his students, were the cause of their problems. Just one of the problems that, apparently inevitably, arise, when mob majority rule becomes more important than liberty.

kimhazelrigg

Sure thing :o) He has class all day Saturday and Sunday between services and is on a temp assignment for the month of November...but I'm sure he'll get to ya! Hope you're doing okay.

plato

That is exactly why Benjamin Franklin said "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote." Republics such as ours can only survive if the rule of law is absolute. Sadly, it no longer is.

gracie03

My stance (for whatever it's worth) on "principled non-voters" is that they should be the most active in changing the way things are done in our country - not the most vocal, but the most active.

gracie03

If they are that, then I have no problem with "principled non-voters".
