We seem to be back to norm now whatever that means! Boy am I glad that is over!
Got to get to work on the Thanksgiving feast for Ty's class next Mon. Moms are working Wed. on painting their Native American shirts that they will wear Monday during Native American day at school. Can't wait to take pictures! Ty's doing great!
Yesterday, Terra was complaining about her stomach and Ty read her a "Henry and Mudge" book to make her feel better. Got it all on tape! I'm so proud of him. He's such a good big brother! I am fortunate that my kids "take care" of each other even now!
Got to talk to my sister for about 2 hours today... it was great! I wish we were closer in proximity to each other so we could see each other more and visit and keep each other's kids! It would be nice to have family close. I have several friends that have mothers and sisters/brothers close (same town). I hope that they realize how lucky they are to have family to help out and call on and just see without a long road trip.
I miss my mom too! Maybe when she retires, I'll get to spend more time with her! But when she retires, I'll probably will be going back to teaching....so, maybe not!
Here's a funny for you....stay with me.... Jonathan and I were talking about teaching and how teaching today is not like it used to be. Teachers are held to higher standards, teacher performance matters, and it is essential that those teachers who do not like the "best practices" for students and taking that extra effort to engage and challenge students just have to suck it up and get over that someone has moved their cheese...(you'll have to read the book..."Who Moved My Cheese"!) Anyway... I was reading a Leadership 101 book and I kept running accross statements in the book that I had been mentioning to Jonathan earlier. I thought it was uncanny that I mentioned it and then read it in a book.
TMALSEL.... I mentioned about wanting to motivate and inspire students and other teachers to go the extra mile. I was trying to convince Jonathan that if he kept a "writer's notebook" it would help him aid the kids with their writing by his examples he writes about, (gotta know Lester Laminack...children's author or Lucy Calkins). He was refusing because it's not his "thing". I told him that having a writers notebook would not make him gay! He's trying to step outside his box as an educator. I told him he did not have to be a different person to be a writer. He just needed to write about events in his life and things he was interested in. I asked him to start with the time he broke both thumbs in a baseball game and to be as descriptive with his experience as possible...recording details like smells, things he heard, how it hurt..or didn't I was told when he jammed his thumbs into 2nd base. The kids could relate and would be totally facinated with learning more about him. He could then use this to illustrate strong descriptive language in writing that takes the reader back in their minds to the place where the event occurred!
I mentioned that I would love to (down the road) teach education courses in college. As I walked back down the hallway, I stated in a med-loud voice...I want to inspire teachers. As I was approaching the living room, Ty heard what I said...and he looked at me and said momma, what did you say about a spider teacher? Well, I just rolled!
I immediately walked back to my writers notebook and jotted down what Ty said...years later...if you ever read a children's book about a spider teacher...you'll know where it came from! HA!HA!
Let me encourage you to go inspire others to be and do better!
Yes, I finally got what all the other members of my family had today. I was ok until lunch and then it hit me. I think that the sleepless nights with Ty and Terra contributed to my weakened immune system and I could barely walk back and forth to the bathroom when needed. Kids are still complaining about stomach hurts... this was a really tough bug! I hope all of you don't get one this bad. The water bill this month will be a doosie! If I have done one load of sheets, towels, blankets etc.... I've done 20! And of course when you feel sick and kids get sick, a warm bath must be had...so several tubs full of warm water... and maybe we're on the up-swing. Kids are still not 100% and we may not get out while were not batting 1000 so we don't aggrivate our weakened states of being!
Possibly roto-virus? Almost parvo virus like (Josh you can appreciate the severity of this!) I know it was rough, still is a little. Mom came up to watch kids while I slep off my upset stomach and after resting and feeling a little better, I made her go home! I did not want her to get what we had. She did not fight me too much on leaving. Would you blame her? She told me she remembered being up all hours of the night in the bathroom with us when we were sick. She always made us a pallet in the bathroom floor so we could "get there" before....... you know! Sorry to be gross!
You know, you do not appreciate your health until you've lost it...yes not a major disease, but a simple virus! I hope I do not have to feel this way ever again! (My children either!)
Maybe Ty will be ready for school on Mon. but I'm not pushing him if he's not 100% back to normal and sanitized!
Homeroom mom-here also has to get together a Thanksgiving Feast for Ty's class for next Monday...I sure hope more parents participate than did the Halloween party! I have a week to contact parents and convince them to make something for the feast! I can't wait till Thanksgiving! Sadly Christmas will be slim for the fmaily this year...thank you govt. and the economy!
Seriously...as long as we have our health and are faithful to the Lord... what more could you want for your family? These, days, health is a priceless gift!
Hey sis, I am so sorry!! Those stomach bugs can be really bad sometimes. Hopefully you guys can get over it soon and hopefully Jonathan won't get it! Wish I could be there to help out. I'm actually feeling a little better from my sore throat...but it's been nothing compared to what you all have been going through. Drink plenty of liquids-- and like most things...it just has to run it course and hopefully it will be over soon! So Sorry! Love you!!!!
Whoa! Sounds like ya'll are going through the mill! Sorry for your distress. Janet had a real bad headache yesterday and didn't go to the game. Hope you all get better soon.
Sorry you have been sick! Several at church have had this. Maybe not as bad as ya'll. PLEASE stay home until you are well. I really don't want you to share with me. LOL Drew is still sick but not that kind. Since my mom is getting over walking pnemonia, he has had about the same thing. Feel better soon! The recipe swap is December 7th!
Hey-- I went to bed right after I wrote you. I know, I know....I let my hands go too long without seeing a doctor about them. I have been going to the gym and drinking water...and it did seem to help, but ever since we went to the beach...it's gotten worse...the exercise and water doesn't seem to help them....Lordwilling the doctor can work a miracle and give me something to give some relief! It's pretty sad when you can hardly stand to have just plain water running over your hands!!! I could tell you more-- but don't want to gross you out....just grateful for Chris helping me out with dishes and bathing William....I promise to do better-- I guess the saying is true. If you don't take care of yourself-- you can't and wont be able to take care of others.....I'll call you and let you know what the doc says!! Hope are you feeling better today.
Yep, we thought we'd make it through the winter again without any major sickness. Ty was diagnosed Mon with strep and is no longer contageous and terra spent lastnight...all night... throwing up! Needless to say, I am tired...this is a reminder about why I have not had a 3rd! Up all hours of the night with lack of sleep does a number on my brain much less my energy! I feel for all of those moms who are currently up every hour on the hour seeing after a little one.
She was so pittiful... in her 3 1/2 years, she has never been this sick! No vomiting today but very lethargic! Trying to keep hydrated!
It's getting colder out there... makes my bones hurt just thinking about having to get out in it! Winter is a little depressing to me too!
Hope you all have a better week than I have had!
It won't be long until Turkey day and then Two week vacation for Christmas!
I was wondering why you wern't with Jonathan and Terra Monday night at our meeting (I should have ask). I do hope they are on the mend now. It is so hard when kids get sick (for them and mom)!
yes, I hope they and you are getting the rest you need soon! And, is your whatever! in relation to my post- or to the fact that I may be ordering something from Stacie? I assumed the ROLL TIDE- was why you said Whatever-- right? But serious....I think we will beat you guys this year-- or at least the odds are for us this year!! :)
Hey...sorry ya'll have the sickies...did you get my message I left for you? invitation? Do you think that ya'll will be feeling better enough to come on Saturday night? Hope ya'll get to feeling better soon...=)
Hey-- quick question...does that girl still have that wooden table you were telling me about? Did you ask her about selling? If so, either call me or email me the details and exactly what it was again- so I can decide if I want to get that from her--- just thinking William might couls use that for his trains and the tracks/trains you gave him...I would probably give to him for Christmas. Thanks.
Yeah for no more political ads. I dreamed about your kids last night. I don't remember much about it except it had something to do with waiting on a school bus and pumpkins.
Hey! I saw on facebook that Ty has had strep. I'm sorry! I just wanted to say that I did get your card the other day with the kids halloween picture in it...thanks- it was great! Terra was a beautiful Dorothy! Hope Ty feels better soon! Love ya!
OK, just carved the pumpkin...a week early (that's another story). I have gobbs of seeds. I would like to save them to plant to see if I can grow my own pumpkin next year. For all you pumpkim people out there and garden enthusiasts...
What do I do with them to ensure to preserve them so they will grow well and when do I plant pumpkin seeds...spring?????
We threw pumpkin seeds out in the back yard flower bed after carving our Halloween pumpkins one year when I was younger and we were surprised to find a small one growing a few months later. We didn't even plant it! Haha. Sorry, I know that doesn't answer your question any. =)
Well, depending on the kind of pumpkin this is, it might or might not work. However, dry out the seeds completely so they won't rot. Put them in a dark, dry place - an envelope works - and keep then inside where they won't freeze. Plant them in a hill after the ground warms up in the spring, after the last freeze. They need a spot with at least 8 hours of sun per day, morning sun being the best in such a hot climate. Don't plant them all! You only need about 4 seeds per hill and a couple of hills might take over your yard. After they get their secondary leaves, choose the strongest two on each hill and euthanize the others :( so the strongest will thrive. You might want to cover them with a fabric cover at first to prevent eggs being laid on them which will produce nasty boring pests later when the vines get larger.
If the jack-o-lantern is a hybrid the resulting plants are going to be of very unpredictable quality and character. But the seeds are free so you don't have anything to lose.
I never thought of it but maybe I was one of those kids. Actually we grew up and teacher/adult was always right, no matter what. Maybe that's why I remember so well that Mom took up for me :)
That is absolutely hilarious. We had that happen once but we were the house the people came to. I felt horrible. They wouldn't stay either. That is the stuff funny memories are made of. Love you too....I'd love to see you soon. How is the potty training going?
My mom always use to use a foot long butcher knife and never get into the potato with it. I saw it in her kitchen drawer the other day, it was worn so bad it looked humpbacked. She still uses it and she is 90
Yes, a shared task makes quick work! It was like a bunch of old cowboys around a campfire accept it was a tater bucket. We talked of days of yore! Mostly about guns and women and things going on at church! :-)
They were taken at Tate Farms. It was the first time that we (me and the kids) had been there. When my husband saw the pictures, he wanted to go to the farm. Probably to play. :)
So, have you planted the seeds yet? What's been going on with you guys? Chris and I went to Knoxville for the game this past weekend--and as my blog shows...it was great! What did you guys do? love ya!
Yes, I got my ESV study Bible. I really like it, especially the online features. Not too impressed with some of the evangelical study notes. Wish they would stick with background and context and not commentary.
Yes, the legs were royal icing. The directions called for making them out of cookie dough too, but after one batch I found that they spread too much, so I decided to make them out of royal icing instead.......which turned out to way faster, because I had to make 200 legs!!!!
Hey there!! Hope everyone is doing well....Just wanted to touch base with you and to let someone know that although we have not been attending at Westview for the past couple of weeks, we have been visiting at Hwy 157 and with Johnnie and Carolyn and have also been out of town some. No one has mentioned it, but I just wanted to let someone know. Thanks!! [x]
