Happy Thanksgiving!!! We'll be doing something we rarely do, celebrating with both families. Today we'll eat with my family and then we'll be making the trip to Louisville to eat with David's family tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving!! |

Yesterday in Bible Class we were discussing helping other and those in need. Our preacher mention that this time of year it's always fresh on the mind but there were needs at other times of the year too. We had a very interesting discussion and one sister brought up an excellent comment, that really hit the nail on the head.
She said that when there is need and you are able and have the means then you have the responsibility. All three go together: if you aren't able or don't have the means then you don't the responsibility.

Is it too early for Christmas decorations? I generally never mix my holidays. At one point in time I never put the decorations or tree up until December.... then I moved it up to the monday after Thanksgiving, we always went to the local parade and decorated the tree. I few years ago I went to Thanksgiving weekend, the kids are out of school, we're usually off work, why not take the time get the stuff out and all the boxes put up while you have extra time.
So this year, I went on a search for a new tree, I'm not fighting with lights anymore and last year we had to "rig" the tree with green yarn and nails in the wall so it wouldn't fall over. I bought a slim pre lit tree yesterday. I went ahead a put it up, no decoration yet BUT it was so easy, no light to fight with, all the branches fold up, it was up and going in about 20 minutes or less.
So this year I will decorate early, we are planning on going to Kentucky to David's family for the holidays, and I was thinking it would be nice to have it all done so when we come home, we won't have to fight with all the mess.
All of this is a new concept for me, I've always rebelled at getting Christmas started earlier and earlier every year. Maybe I'm getting soft in my middle age hood. Next year I might even have it up at Halloween!! LOL

This morning while working in the kitchen, I found myself singing the song Farther Along or Tempted and Tired. And I thought of the words and the meaning of this song. It's probably one of my favorite song. I first remember being touched by this song as a teenager when we lost a dear member of our congregation who also happened to be a school teacher at my high school and a beloved family friend. This was the only song sang at his funeral. But the word fit so well with our times, who isn't worried about the president elect, the economy, we are certainly facing uncertain times.
Tempted and tried we're off made to wonder Why it should be thus
all the day long, While there are others living about us, Never molested tho' in the wrong.
When death has come and taken our loved ones, It leaves our home so lonely and dear; Then do we wonder why others prosper, Living so wicked year after year.
Faithful to death said our loving master, A few more days to labor and wait; Toils of the road will then seem as nothing, As we seep thru the beautiful gate.
When we see Jesus coming in glory, When He comes from His home in the sky; Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion, We'll understand it all by and by.
Chorus; Farther along we'll know all about it, Farther along we'll understand why, Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine, We'll understand it all by and by.
What simple but powerful words.
