I have a bit of sympathy... teaching is so overwhelmingly time-consuming during the in-school months that teachers NEED a break! Although I did feel a bit bitter whenever I was working full-time at a non-teaching job and didn't get a break.
heyas! twas good seeing you again! thanks for the tour of the woodlands! i like the trees :) btw, explored the galleria today. well... i started and gave up :P they have a metropark though, i was rather surprised.
Today started out just like any other day for Algernon. He woke up, had his owner (myself) pick him up out of his cage, and put him in his round ball to roll around in while his owner (again, myself) cleaned out his cage.
He ran around the whole kitchen, knocking up against counters, and bouncing into doors for approximately 15 minutes. He was even able to push the ball up over the carpet and into the dining room for a couple of seconds. After cleaning the cage, I had decided to finish watching a "Law & Order" episode while everything was drying out.
When the next commercial came on, I realized I had not heard the knocking of the ball in a couple of minutes. I went into the kitchen and noticed the door was unlocked and the mouse was gone.
I started to tear up my whole apartment looking for this mouse. I began in the kitchen, looked in the pantry, looked in the laundry room, behind the refrigerator, behind the washing machine... went down the hall into the bathroom, looked for him behind the trashcan, behind the toilet, and finally entered my bedroom fearing I wasn't going to find this mouse ever again.... and there he was... crawling around on a pair of black pants at the foot of my bed.
Talk about relief! I went into the kitchen and decided to hand dry everything and finish quickly while still holding on to Algernon. It proved to be a bit difficult, but who cares!? I found my mouse! I filled up his food container, put in his wheel, and he went to town on that little wheel.
I wonder if his point of view of those ten minutes would differ drastically from mine. I think I have a new writing assignment in mind for my kiddos this year.
haha i remember those days! we used to have gerbils & the same thing would happen! i tried holding on to one once though & got bit seriously...had to get a tetnis shot! glad you found him...
i tried the ball with my gerbils ... they kept escaping. even when i taped the door shut on the ball ... finally when they learned to come when called i gave up on the ball and let them run around ... supervised of course.
I love being a teacher and having summers off. :) It allows you to get a lot of stuff done that you didn't have time to do during the nine point five months you are working. Of course, I do have that lovely thing called workshops, and I am attending one tomorrow. They are suppose to teach me how to use music and language arts together. I hope they can really teach me some new songs.
I arrived home safely. My mom is home from the hospital, however surgery looks to be in her future. Continue to pray for her and I will update you when I find out info.
