Decorating a tree by yourself is really lonely. I think I'll take a break until I have a few takers...am I hearing crickets???
Kent went for a follow up appointment today and will begin to wean himself off his aircast. Yay! Michael drove over to take him because he didn't have a ride.
Today is the day at UGA where the cafeterias prepare new recipes, submitted by moms, for the students. Kent is LOVING it already and is insisting that I learn to prepare creme brule french toast. They will keep some of the recipes as staples. They already serve poppyseed chicken and king ranch chicken, for example. Kent has managed to avoid the freshman 15.
In case you were wondering, I stink at Mario Cart. Oh, and I also stink at Guitar Hero, and I'm really OK with that! |

The HIGH in Tallmadge, Ohio, over the next 10 days is 39 degrees. I just don't have clothes and shoes for it. Nope. Nope. Nope. I don't think it has ever been this cold when we've gone back to visit. I'll be ready to come home. There is not enough Static Guard or lotion on the planet to keep me there!
Michael is letting us take his car (aka Karl). Tonight is the first time I drove him. I kept turning on the windshield wipers instead of the lights, and then when I thought the wipers were off they would still wipe every now and then. I hope I fair better tomorrow! |

Sift and set aside:
3 1/2 C flour
1 T cinnamon
1 T pumpkin pie spice
1 1/2 t salt
1/2 t baking powder
2 t baking soda
Mix:
1 16 oz. can pumpkin (it is even better with fresh pumpkin!)
2/3 C water
Cream in a large bowl:
2 1/2 C sugar (I use MUCH less)
2/3 C shortening
2 eggs
Add pumpkin and dry ingredients alternately; mix 3 minutes. Pour into 2 lightly greased loaf pans (or in muffin tins and bake for 20 minutes or so). Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until top is done.

Our lawn is blanketed with leaves and Michael's blower is not working. We do have at least 2 rakes, but no one to operate them.
I've made countless number of pumpkin muffins and pumpkin bread, with plans to make many, many more.
At the kids' elementary school all the parents were invited to join them in a special Thanksgiving "school lunch". We went Kent's first year of school where they served all the tradition fixings along with an odd colored opaque gelatinous dish they were passing for pumpkin pie. Kent loved it. A few days later when we had our own Thanksgiving at home and I served Kent the pumpkin pie that I made, he said "it's not as good as the school's, Mommy, but you tried!" This year again, I'll *try* to make a pumpkin pie.
We got our COBRA bill today. $1,159.00. No, thank you! We'll pay for Kent's foot ourselves, get some catastrophic care, and pray nothing serious happens in the mean time. Please keep us all in your prayers while Michael is still searching for a job.
Even with all this, there are plenty of things to be thankful for today. This is my favorite time of year! |

My Dear Husband loves me. Today, he took my car to get and oil change, tire rotation and he put new wipers on. I'm ready for winter!
Kent is coming home tomorrow since he cannot make the trip to Auburn. I don't even know if the game will be televised since both teams have sunk pretty low. It will be nice to have him here to plan our Thanksgiving feast.
Next Saturday Caroline and I are going to Ohio. My Granny has not been well. She is now in a rehab facility. We'll be taking our Thanksgiving dinner over to eat with her a few days early. My mom also signed me up to volunteer at some Christmas tree event. We plan to come home Thanksgiving day.
Originally, we were all going to make the trip, but Kent has to keep his foot propped up, so Michael will stay home with him. The up side? I get to have 2 Thanksgiving meals! Whoo hoo! Our nuclear family will celebrate on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
It is dreary outside and although it is only 4:22, I'm ready to get back in my jammies. It has been a jammie day all day long, but I had to get ready and go out for awhile. Do you have jammie days?
