Question: Can a Christian be an undercover cop? Is it ethical to pretend to be part of the underworld in order to vanquish evil?
This has been going through my head for a while after an interesting documentary I watched about the Hell's Angels and I thought it would make for a good "comeback post". But seriously the thought does intrigue me and I am interested in hearing a variety of thoughts so lets break out the soapboxes and dust off our mudslingers.
Comment: Upon one leaving pleonast, it is COMPLETELY lame for them to delete all of their posts and comments that others left in response. What's done is done and can't be undone. Quit being a wuss.
Final Thought: After the terrorist attacks, Scott Ian of of the band Anthrax commented that his band were seriously considering changing their name in light of the tragedy that had occurred. A few months later, the 5 piece band assembled onstage, each wearing a shirt emblazoned with one word apiece.
"We're" "Not" "Changing" "Our" "Name"
Ian later explained that in order for them to feel right changing their name and skewing their legacy, they would have to admit that it had never been appropriate to adorn themselves with such a title. They held that chose that name plate to represent the rebellion they felt towards societies regulation and that no matter what some maniacs did and no matter what a few crazed right wing political groups would say about them, they were going to hold true to their beliefs and convictions.
I found this tale more then a little inspiring when I first read about it several years ago and I felt compelled to end this on a similar note;
I think the undercover cop thing is a sticky situation. I don't think it would be okay. One one hand, you have the authority of government setting the standard for acceptable and not and it is the governments responsibility to enforce those laws. However, if you look at the Roman empire, they chose what was acceptable and what was not. They saw that Christianity was unacceptable and chose to persecute them. Do you think those persecuting the Christians were innocent of their sins just because the government says to do something? I don't think so. It seems to me that this is just another case of "the ends justifying the means." I just don't see how a Christian can lie, steal, cheat, and murder "for their country" and still be acceptable to God.
I don't know. Mixed feelings - Eccl 7:16-17 - do not be overly wise or righteous, Matthew 10:16 - wise as serpents, harmless as doves. There's so much about honesty and integrity in the Scriptures that I'd have to say the Christians might ought to leave the dirty work of undercover, pretend-bad-guy work to the worldly people.
Being an undercover cop is the perfect way to sneak up on those conniving criminals that scat when the boys in blue come blairing ten blocks away, giving them a good five minute head start. "Undercover cop" is just an English translation of the Japanese "Ninja", who are trained to be invisible. As far as I'm concerned, an undercover cop is best equipt with nunchucks and throwing stars.
Just thought I'd put my two cents in about ethics on this thing:
If you want a serious answer, examine the parts of the question that make it unethical, vis a vis, being a part of the crime or sin in order to overcome it. A character in the Bible that had this doctrine is found in Rev.2:20, goes by the name of that woman Jezebel. It wasn't so much that it was her name, as it was a character identification with the wife of Ahab, said to be the WICKEDEST kings of all, and it was his wife, Jezebel, that led him to it. Together they killed God's prophets, made it a point to exterminate Jehovah worship and establish Baalism-the religion of vice, sensuality, lust; the priests of which were sodomites, the priestesses were hookers, and part of their worship was murdering children. Their temples were often found in the middle of child-graveyards, and within the walls of certain houses there were corpses of "sacrificed" children held in vessels. So- in light of all this, consider the woman in Rev.2 whose doctrine was to become acquainted with the gods of Thyatira and Satan so that they would be more able to subdue them within their minds and hearts. -God saw right through that.
It's not possible to become sinful to overcome sin; but in light of an undercover cop, a Christian should obviously be wary of his boundaries as part of God's temple, and a cop within the perameters of the law and justice.
Hey Nick, being very familiar with the drug game and police and how drug and game task forces work and run I would most definately say they are unethical and quite frequently do hypocritical things that are sinful and another interesting thing I have found is for the most part these same people steal more, do more dope, and attack more then the person they are locking up!!! Maybe that's just what they do in Ga but I highly doubt it Nick!!!
I think people who leave admonitions on their blog need to be punched if they leave it up there too long without coming back for a funny message within a minimum of a week!
He is such a snob. He wants REAL friends with names like "Aaron" and "Curtis" and "Jennie" instead of the cool ones with names like "smiley_mcbutterbutt" and "sarahpet" and "trogdor."
Many times I will be driving and I will think to myself, “That (referring to whatever subject I have been mulling over in my head during my tedious drive to work) would make a great pleonast post!” only to arrive home and never actually do it.
Try as I might, I cant remember any of them so I will just tell everyone what has been going on.
Freshest on my mind, I went to Kentucky Kingdom today thanks to the Pettinato family who treated me like royalty. I was stunned and impressed by their above and beyond the call of duty approach to kindness. A toast in their name would be appropriate so go a grab yourself a drink and raise it before reading on…
(brief intermission in post to allow for drink retrieval)
“To the Pettinato Parents, whose courtesy knows no bounds. May all your dreams come true and may those who are reading this without a drink in hand be smote in a most vicious way.”
Note to future Kentucky Kingdom visitors: the water used in Blizzard River does NOT taste good.
Only Slightly Related Note: Can anyone attest to the quality of Holiday World?
I was told that there was a big group of people going to Kentucky Kingdom only to find that Sarah’s friends are cruel and heartless and abandon her in her Friday of need. SHAMEFUL.
I got to have one final debate with Curtis before he left for the Switz (he lost of course) and was honored to spend his final moments before departure trouncing him with my Galoshes of Logic.
Much More Related Note: Curtis has asked that everyone at least ATTEMPT to prank him while he is gone or when he comes back, whichever is more convenient. If you need his address, check last weeks bulletin. He specifically requested jokes that are very hard to clean up for instance spray painting gang symbols on his door or vehicle.
Barely Related Note: a BBQ Brisket sandwich should NEVER cost 9 dollars
Completely Unrelated Note: Apparently there is a Dragon exhibit at the Louisville Speed Museum. This is what I would deem to be “awesome”.

How could I have stolen your socks when you left them behind my head in the back of the car. You were hoping I would take them and pity you and wash them so you left without them. You should have seen them when you laid that hug on me but your eyes were propbably closed and you were in daydreamland. Well Mister, I did not wash them. Momcha did. I wanted them to stay in the sweltering garage and bloat the bag up and become a deadly bomb. I will make a note of it to bring you your socks friday so you can put them in your hope chest.
she will have to "bump off" a friend to add you...hmmm..this could be tricky or nearly impossible :P..she has to find a friend she likes less than you.
um...not much...my throat is a little scratchy, but other than that, nothing is new. Yeah, we're planning on being there Friday. Yeah, that was alot of fun! Alright...I'll try to leave you a comment on pleo when we're planning on visiting next. :)

Update for all the X-WAY fans out there. Our first game, yours truly led the team in points and was voted the unanimous MVP of All Time. In true leader-like fashion, I then handed my position over to Aaron (we are a 5 person team in a four person league, someone has to sit) and there was much skepticism and weeping amongst the fans. Unfortunately we lost. Basically the contest came down to who could stink the least and it wasn't us.
On an unrelated note, the official X-WAY cheerleading tryouts have begun. Please send me your contact information and a monetary donation if you are interested.
So tonight an atrocity occurred. I missed a show I already had a ticket to. Oh, the horror. Illness weaves a loathsome tapestry does it not?
Ahh the joys of child rearing have beset me. Tonight I watched as Ashley was assaulted on pleonast by old women who sit around and knit all day. One called her a sinner for suggesting that her friends should play a practical joke on a boy. Should was told that she should "submit" to her "elders". Oh the audacity of ignorance.
I watched as she battled feverishly against these sowers of discord, interceding where spelling and punctuation errors had occurred, and cheered her on against the miscreant adults and their antiquated ideas. Unfortunately, a moderator saw fit to delete the entire discussion. The offenders were told to continue their tirades elsewhere and have yet to pursue further debate. Apparently they were not worried about her spiritual state after all.
I purpose a toast in Ashley's name! To Ashley: defender of all things right, honest, and just! May you one day be as awesome as your uncle!
Speaking of toasts, is it appropriate for the second best man / future husband to give an impromptu speech at a wedding when he suspects that the official speech may be too traditional for his tastes?
Why is it that people who are the least informed on a subject, generally have the most to say. How can we close the mouths of the ignorant so the wise can be heard? I want to hear your thoughts.
We took some really good pics together...yep they are like 50% really good!
I'll post one here...you probably won't get on till after the wedding to see them.
