I'm feeling better, but my moments at home are spent in bed. Back to work, but I'm still taking it easy.
The strep is gone - the only medicine I'm on now is the antibiotics and some allergy medicine. Still have a cough, but at least my throat doesn't hurt anymore and I'm not blowing my nose every ten minutes. I ought to be completely well in a few days. Yay!
Obviously, there are some conflicting views on ear candles. Please enlighten me with pros and cons.
I just googled ear candle, and Wikipedia doesn't have anything nice to say about them. Of course, my appeal to this source warrants all the caveats associated using Wickedpedia, as well as the caveat that "mainstream" medical circles may not always be fair in their evaluation of "alternative" medicine. Nonetheless, I would be highly, highly skeptical of ear candles based on what I read.
the first time i heard of ear candles, james & i had just started dating, and we walked into his grandparents house and the lights were dimmed and i saw his aunt laying on her side on the couch with a torch sticking out of her ear and i thought they were insane. then they offered for me to try and i said NO THANKS!!! but james' aunt gets ear infections fairly frequently and whenever she uses ear candles, it removes all the build-up & liquid and she can hear again! so...oneday i decided to try them out. i'm obsessed about keeping my ears clean. i used Q-tips at least twice a day & even keep them in my purse. so i tried it. i couldn't really say if i felt better or worse afterward, but THEN oneday a few years later i had major congestion, including in my ears, so i used ear candles again and the congestion cleared up! i could hear, again, and i could feel the difference in my ears, at least, immediately. anyhow...i've never researched them, but all i know is that they remove build-up from your ears...after you're done using them, you can litally cut it open & see all the nastiness that was in your ear... anyhow...i only use them like once or twice a year if i'm feeling congested or something.
they're usually used for earwax build-up, which isn't necessarily bad except it can limit your hearing. you need to have some earwax because it is protective and keeps stuff from getting into your ears. God made it for a reason. i found some website that talks about why it's not a great idea: here
have you ever tried ear candles? i used to get ear infections all the time, but now, whenever i start feeling like there's fluid in my ears, i have james do ear candling on me!
Still sick. The sinus infection persists. Ibuprofen helps the sore throat, but when I forget or wait too long to take it, I know to get the stuff in my ASAP.
The Mucinex has me coughing - a LOT. It certainly does it's job. Downside: it dries out my throat and sends me on 5-minute coughing sprees that make me wonder if I'm not in the final stages of consumption (that oughta tell you I read classic novels).
The factory workers in my head have not slacked the production in the sinus department. My nose is raw from the blowing/rubbing/wiping/dabbing.
I'm debating work today. I went yesterday; I don't know if it exhausted me or what. But my sick time is all gone, and I've been eating into my vacation time. If I miss today, I start eating into the visit my parents will be paying us/the Orlando trip in January. Hopefully, I'll start feeling a little better soon. I didn't sleep well - maybe that's part of it. I'll probably go and do my best to stick it out. That's the usual procedure for me - I like to try.
One of my co-workers (Stephen) was making fun of me yesterday. I would start saying something to him, and he would look at me, start laughing, and say, "You sound like a teenage boy!" Unfortunately, it's true. My deeper voice + all the congestion = a wavery voice that goes up and down too much.
Travis and I had a zoo date with the Hodges tomorrow. I think we'll have to cancel it :(
Cold front comes through on Saturday night/Sunday morning - woohoo! High of 66! Travis said, "Bah," to me as usual.
Update: I've decided to stay home today to make a full recovery. Sorry, Mom - I'll have to work one of the days y'all are down here. :(
Jim: Kill Captain Smollet and you'll have to kill me.
Gonzo: Kill Jim and you'll have to kill me.
Squire Trelawney: Kill Gonzo, and you'll have to kill me.
Rizzo: Kill Squire Trelawney and Mr. Bimbol and you'll have to....negotiate strenuously.

Jennifer and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
Strep + congestion + suspected sinus infection + fever all day Monday = an awful few days, even if it means days off of work.
And I have no appetite, but I'm so hungry my stomach hurts, and the sinus drainage is making me sick. I feel so helpless: I know that eating will help, but I don't want to eat anything and the thought of eating anything makes me sicker.
I'm supposed to go to work at four today, which would make it a half day and 24 hours after the antibiotics got into my system. I'm thinking of just waiting until tomorrow, but I'll see if I feel any better.
It's like a shorter version of Spring '06. Ugh.
Good news: when I was at the doctor's office yesterday, I found out my blood pressure has gone down from last year. WAY down. I celebrated to myself. It was pre-hypertension/hypertension 1 or whatever last year. It was 110/60 yesterday. Somewhat lower than "normal," but much better than hypertension!
if you like green tea you should drink some with some honey and lemon juice in it. it will not only make your throat feel better but helps fight infections. something you won't hear at the doctor's office.
Well, the ibuprofen gets rid of the "swallowing glass" feeling, luckily - only hurts when I yawn or when I'm late medicating myself. I'll try to remember to get Travis to pick some up on his way home, though, and try it - thanks
