I'm beginning to understand the lure of Facebook. 12-01-08 07:47am EST
I'm sorry to admit it here on pleonast, but it's true. The main lure for me is that I can just write one sentence about what I am doing, and then I am done. No racking my brain for what should be post-worthy. Instead I can write something as mundane as "Sara Haynes is sipping tea" and I am done for the day. I"m not pressured to fill in a whole blank box.

We had a nice duel Thanksgiving. I felt guilty dragging the boys to school today. They obviously weren't ready to return to school. Three weeks of more school seems like an eternity!

I can't believe it's December! Danny will be spending the first two weeks in Portland, OR. He's hoping to see some friends on the west coast over the weekend. I hope his plans work out.

That's about it. I think "Sara Haynes is about to sip some tea."
probablyreadingStatuses! I love them. :D
didowI always feel a little empty reading everyone's status on Facebook. I want to know more about what they're doing.

I'm considering a month long break from school. I've never done this during December but there is so much to do. I need the break.
textiletThat sounds good!

I found something for Tim on our travels, and something for you on a recent visit to Cumming - both are from my favorite store.
harbermamaWith whom did you DUEL this Thanksgiving? Kind of a strange family tradition, but I guess many family thanksgivings would end better if we could just pull out the swords and get it over with! :-)
theauntLOL! I meant double. We met with both families! There are times when swords might be nice! :)
kasa_mom^^ I guess you meant dual meaning two. The A and E are really close together on the keyboard :)
turner120995Although the reaction time would be rather slow after two Thanksgiving dinners!!
themotherI wondered if that would get anyone's attention! Hope you enjoyed the tea! Think I'll go and do likewise!
snickers63lol - We had no duel this year. Oh well, maybe next year. (I'm sipping tea too.)
jlmanagerYou can do that here too. Some of my cousins seem to do it quite well... :)
snickers63ha ha It would be a big one wouldn't it????
joes_wifeI have been having pleonast block ever since I got on Facebook too :(
laughing_eyestea and scones. that sounds perfect about right now.
turner120995I can't believe that you guys have not gone to the Opryland Hotel. It is free! Just to walk around the indoor atriums is well worth the time!
laughing_eyesyes, I had a floating decimal
textiletGH has songs from our generation, but that doesn't help me any! lol
textiletM & I have been playing Mario Cart. He is the only one patient enough to play with me.

Norcross High Author 11-20-08 02:46pm EST
Robert was interested in hearing an announcement at his school that involved a classmate of his. Nicholas Gupta has written a book that has actually been published. He's in Robert's homeroom. His book is titled, "The Unknown Species" so I gather it is Sci Fi! :) Robert wants a copy, and I don't blame him. This kid wrote the book at 14, and it's available at Amazon.com. He's also got a website with learning pages.

I just thought it was interesting. Perhaps I should read the book though before I recommend it....
aletaWow! I just read about him on his website. Amazing.
textiletCool.

Hey, what about tomorrow morning???
textiletOh, Kent is doing better, thanks.
laughing_eyesthat is really cool!
didowSome kids are amazing, aren't they?
laughing_eyesis a Tom Tom what I think it is? from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi?
bzyabsmaThat's awesome!
laughing_eyesHAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

laughing_eyesLOL. That is hysterical
tucksmomLet's see... Paolini was 14 when his first was published...
tucksmomBut he was homeschooled and took a LOT of time that way.

Free Starbucks Coffee 11-03-08 04:11pm EST
Starbucks is offering a free cup of coffee if you vote. Perhaps with the long lines, it would be better to offer it before you go.

I had a friend on facebook who wonders if his friends are going to vote their conscience or vote for the lesser of two evils so their vote will "count."

I think it is a good thought. I'm still trying to decide what to do.

It's just a comfort to know that God is in control.
textiletI'm reposting this comment that I left on someone else's blog.

We've had some discussion on the topic of voting for the lesser of two evils at our house. This was Kent's first year to vote and he voted his conscience (by absentee ballot). His candidate has virtually no chance of getting elected, but Kent was true to voting with the candidate he could truly support.

So, knowing that God is in control of the rise and fall of nations, and knowing that God does answer prayer, where does our part (prayer and voting) fall into the equation, or how does it fit into the equation? We know that God has used evil people/countries to bring judgment on another and our actions will not thwart God's greater plan (for His Kingdom vs. the well-being of the USA). We know that God answers every prayer, but His ways are not our ways, so the answer isn't always what we would have picked. What we feel is best for our country isn't necessarily what is best for the spreading of God's word and the growth of the Kingdom.

All that being said, I pray for wisdom and guidance for myself on Tuesday!
textiletCurious, will you share what you decided after tomorrow?
jlmanagerI'm doing the same. Wonder if we picked the same long-shot?
textiletIf we vote for the lesser of two evils, are we saying to God and the world that we'll settle for 2nd best? Are we saying 2nd best is good enough for us?

If we vote for McCain/Palin, are we saying God and the world that it is OK to not be at home with your teenage daughter who needs you, pregnant or not, and all the rest of her kids, too? (Not that I think she'll be in the home after the election, anyway)

I still haven't decided, but it just isn't that clear cut for me.
dadmanwalkingT and I agree that as your dad reminded us in his recent sermon, and as Marty reminded us last night, that God is in control of appointing leaders (as Daniel wrote), not each of us. She and I see each of our votes only as a voice this particualr government allows us to have to speak up for our convictions (although a small voice). For that reason, we are leaning toward voting the the candidates who most closely reflects those values, rather than "voting for A so B won't get elected because he's worse than A." At this point, pending further research, it looks like I'll be voting for the Constitution Party candidate.
dadmanwalkingHere is a website that shows how each candidate stands on moral and other issues: http://2008election.procon.org
aletaWe thought about the summer crowds today as we were pulling to the side of the road and dodging the few that WERE there, and were glad we came now. I guess dragging our feet all year and delaying our vacations until November - which we've done the last 3 years, isn't such a bad idea!

Driver's Ed 10-31-08 04:54pm EST
Robert begins Driver's Ed. on Monday. Whew! Time flies.
harbermamaYou have my pity!
textiletOh, Sara!
textiletHey, when we do get to have breakfast, what time do you want to go?
didowThe hardest thing I've ever tried to teach the boys is to drive. It scares me to death. I do much better once they have their license and are driving on their own -- they do better too.
jlmanagerTime flies indeed. Tell Robert not to fly. Then again, in Atlanta that's almost not possible...
laughing_eyes:) - will there be the proverbial stomping of the non-existent brake?
laughing_eyesI like your story :)
julied93Robert told Melia to "watch out". HA! Good luck on his new phase of parenting.;-)
aletaJune Varson worships where Gene held the meeting in VA last week. She told me all the connections she has with the folks there at EH.
bzyabsmaHave fun with that. ha ha
turner120995What? You've never seen hearts on Halloween treat bags before? :)

Handwriting Analysis 10-23-08 12:09pm EST
Have you ever heard of these? Someone looks at a sample of your handwriting and determines what kind of person you are. There is a website that has you write a paragraph then go thru and helps you to analyze what you wrote. It was kind of fun. I know I should be doing something more constructive, but something made me want to do it.

Can you believe it says I'm stubborn!? My husband will laugh at that. I guess he knows the truth! Some fun stuff and some that hit home.

If you have a few minutes and are curious, I went to www.handwritingwizard.com. You do not have to give them any information. Cross those t's and curl those y's! :)
julied93We plan on coming Monday night to the meeting; hope to see you. I remember MANY a meeting hearing Hiram Hutto. I've heard Bob just once.
themotherI've had mine done twice in the past. Once at a Halloween carnival and once at a state fair -- that was supposed to have done by a computer. How do you write on a website?
rosieSara stubborn??? Wait til I tell the family!! Oh wait...we already know!!
keefeI taught school for a couple of years...and ran away. When I taught HS speech for a year, one of my students did a speech on this...used my handwriting as the example...she was very accurate.
rosieI did mine and it says I am unemotional or unlikely to show emotion. I must have done it wrong!
finnishthestoryI don't know how the texting will look on your end. It's not too bad here. But SKYPE is free.
laughing_eyesactually I think it would be Lois & Mom - they were the poor unfortunate souls who sat in FRONT of me :)
textiletAlthough Kent is off school, he isn't off band! He will have to report in Athens on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
didowI gave it a try and found out that I'm apparently quite versatile. I not only have a poor self-image, but I also demand respect and am very social. I can also be candid, direct and sarcastic. Hmmm...I don't know if I like myself now. :)
julied93It was SO good to see you last night & chat for a while.
derbydiA Christian here in Louisville owns a handwriting analysis business. She did mine a few years ago and was right on the money on everything! It is very interesting - so much so that I've thought about learning it myself.
www.huvista.com
textiletI did my analysis and I think it was VERY accurate! Scary, isn't it?
