Words do not even begin to explain the sorrow.
I received word my grandmother, Ovie Henderson, has passed away. The knowledge that she knew and obeyed the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes her passing easier ... but her presence in my life will be sorely missed.
Many in my family will be traveling tomorrow and returning home next week ... I request you keep us in your prayers in the loss and in our travels.

I would have put this up yesterday if I had come across it ... however, we can honor our veterans on any day.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
— Lt.-Col. John McCrae

I know, that's what every parent is supposed to say ... but come on, we can look around and see that some parents don't really "love" their kids, they just say it.
That being said, here is my son, Austin's (3) morning.
Begin scene:
I'm downstairs in my office and I hear the thump, thump of little feet running upstairs.
Austin - Gets up and is running through the house looking for mom ...
Me: (Comes upstairs)
Austin: "Where's mom?"
Me: "She's gone to the store ... let's go potty"
Because it's me and not his mom he has to go to the bathroom in our bedroom (mine).
Then our morning goes like this as we are walking from the bathroom in the back of the house, past the bathroom in the middle of the house towards the living room.
Me: "Are you ready for breakfast?"
Austin: "No, shoot ... please"
Me: "You want to shoot"
Austin: "Yes"
So I go to the Wii and put in Link's Crossbow training as Austin grabs a WiiZapper and the Wiimote.
I help him set it up and then he chooses which practice he wants to do.
Me: "Have fun"
Austin: "K"
About 30 minutes later from the top of the stairs -
Austin: "Papa, shoot"
Me: [downstairs] "I cant' right now, I've got work to do. Are you through?"
Austin: "Yes"
Me: "Ok, then turn off the game."
Austin: "Oh, man ... ok"
I follow him upstairs to help him turn things off. As he is turning off the tv ...
Austin: "Papa, Buzz"
Me: "You want to watch Buzz?"
Austin: "Yes, please"
Me: "Ok, Do you want some breakfast?"
Austin: "Yes"
Me: "Cereal or a Pop Tart?"
Austin: "Ummm, cereal"
Me: "Ok, what do you want to drink, milk?"
Austin: "No, cereal"
Me: "But what do you want to drink with your cereal, milk?"
Austin: "No, cereal"
Me: "Ok" [putting cereal next to Austin and then asking] "Do you want some milk?"
Austin: "Yes"
Me: "Ok" and I proceed to put milk in his rocket cup to go with the Buzz Lightyear he's watching.
I love my son ... he's so interesting and funny ... and just so everyone knows, he likes playing outside as much as playing the Wii or watching tv.
Now, here is my morning with my daughter Brooklyn, 9 (almost 10).
Me: I walk into her room, flip on the light and say "Brooklyn, it's time to get up"
Brooklyn: "uuuhhhmmmmmoooooooo"
About 5 minutes pass ...
Me: I lean into her room and say "Seriously, last warning"
Brooklyn: quickly removing the covers and sitting up "uuuuhhhmmmoooo"
A few minutes later, Brooklyn is in the living room with a bowl of cereal watching Austin play Link's Crossbow Training.
Me: "Brooklyn, when you sleep in that means you get your breakfast, go to your room, get dressed and get started on your school work."
Brooklyn: slight hurt look on her face as she proceeds to get up and head to her room with her bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Me: [calling after her] "Your mother said you didn't finish your health yesterday so start on that"
Brooklyn: ........... goes to her room
I say again, I love my kids. They are well behaved but they have the personalities that make them interesting and great. I can't understand people who don't want to have kids.
Oh yeah, one more thing before I go.
Scene: Last night (Caution, "Public Display of Affection" in next scene)
Anna and I are in the kitchen. Anna has been washing dishes and I walk in and put my arms around her giving her a hug. She turns around and we kiss ... from behind us we hear this:
Austin: "Oh mannnn ....." then falls to ground
Turning around Austin is falling backwards on to the ground in his "I can't believe I'm having to see this" reaction.
I must say, it is as good as Brooklyn's deadpan - "Get a room"
I've got to say it again ... I love my kids :-)

What a day for posts ... I usually post at most every couple weeks, now I've posted three times in one day ... However, this is the most important post today.
We rejoice that Charissa Wallace, a young lady who has been attending with us the past few weeks expressed her desire to be baptized into the Lord's church tonight. We are so happy of her choice to repent of her sins, confess Jesus as the Son of God and obey the command of the Lord to be baptized.
Please pray for this new sister in Christ. We have been blessed in the past year to have several new additions through baptism and pray that we will be a helpful family to them in their sojourn here on this earth. |
