Ok so....my first ski trip was amaaaazing. I never thought a person could have so much fun. This is the first trip I've been on in the last 2 years at least where I totally didn't even think about work the entire time. This *might* have been due to the company, or maybe the scenery. Either way, it was an awesome trip. I got to see the Tuckers and the Csonkas, Kyle (albeit just for a short time), Ericka [ :) ], Wes and Yaz, and a few others.
While the trip was 8 days, 2 of those days were travel days, and we only ended up skiing 3 days. I got to ski 2 of those days, thanks to Ericka's skiing accident. After that, she and I took the day off so she could mend and so I could monitor her to make sure she didn't have a concussion. If you're ever skiing with a minor, bring along some ibuprofen. Unless you're a legal guardian or parent, they will not issue ibuprofen to a minor due to some liabilities. Poor Ericka had to wait until we got to a gas station 20 minutes away just to get some pain meds.
We skiid Loveland Pass the whole time. That place is fantastic for beginner and intermediate skiiers. Some advanced skiiers might find it dull, but we loved that place. Couldn't beat the price too- $48 for lift tickets. We are definitely going back there. We wanted to ski Breck, Vail, and Keystone (especially night skiing!!), but we never got around to it. We also couldn't bring ourselves to pay $120 a lift ticket at those places. lol! It was so hard to beat $48 and the views were great. Stay tuned for pictures.
At night we caught up on chick flicks with the girls. Movies like the Notebook and what not. And we taught Ericka how to play Poker, Scattergories, and Clue. Fun stuff! Ericka pwned at Poker on her first game.
We took turns cooking dinner. Wes and Yaz made an amazing salmon dinner one night. Best salmon I ever had. Ericka and I made mexican food, which was easy since Ericka is a mexican. We made chicken and steak fajitas, stir fry vegetables, my signature jalapeno sweet corn, black beans, pico de gallo, and spanish rice. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. She and I had never made fajitas before, so it was kindof experimental, but it was a lot of fun. We ate well on this trip.
The Tuckers got me Caribou Coffee, which is DIVINE. I drank 6 cups one day (thanks ALOT for getting me addicted, Ericka!!). Our first day of skiing was -7 at the base of the ski lift, so you can imagine what it was like up at the top where all the wind was. We drank a ton of coffee and hot chocolate on this trip. Loveland has the best hot chocolate in the world, and it's only $1.25. Go anywhere else and it's $3 and watered down.
We went to a New Years party at the Tuckers' place in Denver. There was lots of good food and good company. We did a white elephant gift exchange and I ended up with some bubble bath. Miss Evadale was sweet and traded me her 3 pound box of chocolate cookies for the bubble bath. lol. Then Sam and Sharmin Csonka took us all in so we didn't have to drive back in the ice and drunken traffic. I can't even begin to tell you how thankful we are that the Csonkas took us in and fed us, and that the Tuckers took in the Csonka kids so we didn't have to sleep on the floor. These are some of the most hospitable folks you will ever meet. You gotta watch them though cause they will give you the shirt off their backs if you let them. I wish they would come back to Texas!
As soon as we got back into Texas, we were all depressed with the weather and scenery. We missed the mountains, snow, and sub-30* weather. It was so cool staying in Silverthorne where there are mountains every which way you turn, and piles and piles of snow lining the roadways and parking lots. We almost made homemade snow ice cream, but we didn't find the time. This would have been amazing! Who would have thought 40* would be considered hot? Yet that's how we all felt after spending the entire time up there around all the snow and ice.
That's all for now. Best trip in the world though! Thanks for reading. |
