I have a whole new appreciation for gas station attendants. Are there gas station attendants anymore? I make a game out of pumping gas (what else am I gonna do?). I try to get it to 00. I think I've done this once out of all the times I've tried (many). Today was a very poor job indeed...$25.11!
I make a game out of most chores. I learned this habit with young kids. It doesn't work well on the older ones. The job I loathe the most is grocery shopping. I try to go as fast as I can...like that old game show. What was it called? Old ladies slow me down and moms driving those carts shaped like cars. I've never seen a dad drive one of those unless he's with his wife. I'm sure it was her idea. My husband slows me down. He says he's just following me. If he were, he'd be going fast.
Well now I've wasted 20 seconds of all our lives. Enjoy the rest of the seconds in your day. :)
I never like being behind a woman is a checkout line. Men just take the change and receipt, shove it into their pocket and move on. The woman stands there holding up the line placing the change in the coin section, then the dollar section and the receipt in another section. Then the money holder must be placed securely in the purse after which she searches for her keys. Only then does she leave and allow the line to move.
^Oh, don't get me started!!^ Can we just say, "Men in the self-check-out???!"
Two words for getting the gas pump on .00: Slow. Down! The only time I can't get it right on is when the prices are too high.
The idea of making a game out of chores is why I like FlyLady so much. The concept of "I can do anything for 15 minutes" is a great motivator to me. The timer makes everything a challenge to get as much accomplished as possible in 15 minutes, and knowing that I will quit at the end of 15 minutes is a huge incentive for me.
What is your game for doing laundry. I need some inspiration. There is always some needing folded or put away.
My honey likes to do repetitive numbers at the gas pump. He would want $25.25. When it gets this cold I just pump and get done. Fingers can freeze off here in Ohio pumping gas.
I had a game with ALL chores when I was little. It was called "Do it as quick as possible and hope I don't make a mistake in my haste because I absolutely hate chores.". That's a pretty accurate representation for my "chores" today too!
Supermarket Sweep yes! As for laundry all I can suggest is the Flylady method she mentioned. Set a timer for 15 min, go as fast as you can and see if you can get it all done in that time. If not, you take a break (15 min?) and do it again. You'll be surprised what you get done in 15 min. This also works great for young kids. They love to race.
You have been all three as well. I got your name from some of the discussions. Your heart for God and people really rings out loud and clear. it is a gift. I'm so glad you are finding ways of using it.
Stocks are being dumped and sales of assault weapons are up.
PS I'm really tired of Main St. v Wall St. For some reason I imagined that phrase would go away after Nov 4.
PPS When at an event with stadium seating...do NOT turn around to see what's bumping you because you WILL be confronted with a butt 2 in. from your face.
I already got my AW. I bought it legally during the "assault" weapons ban. The Assault Weapons Ban is what happens when politicians who know nothing about guns write a gun law.
Visited a gunshop in Dade City,FL. The owner builds the original AR-15s-- SP-1 black rifle--out of parts. Would love to have one to go with my A-2 but can't afford the $900. price tag.
You don't know the "black rifle"? The military calls it the M-16 that was used in Viet Nam. The civilian version is the AR-15. Some modifications were made and the new version is called the A-2. I could really complicate things by going into the M-4 which is what many of the troops are carrying in Iraq. Just suffice it to say that an AR-15--SP 1 or A-2--is an EXCELLENT rifle.
Installation art uses sculptural materials and other media to modify the way a particular space is experienced. Installation art is not necessarily confined to gallery spaces and can be any material intervention in everyday public or private spaces.
I never realized my neighbor was an artist. But he has a toilet sitting in his driveway so obviously he is.
Haha. Our neighbor two doors down has a stove in his driveway....maybe it is one of those across the nation art projects--bringing utilitarian art to the outdoors.
There is some famous work of "art" that is (quite literally) a urinal turned on it's side with the artists's initial on it. I remember someone telling me that they had a whole art class period studying this work of "art". I wish I could remember what it was called....
You also brought something to my mind. Around here, Catholic homes display art in the form of a mother Mary statue in their front yard. Sitting on top of a cement block. And with a little poncho to keep the rain off of her.
Well I'm glad someone appreciated it! I think that a lot of very legalistic people are so quick to overlook the evidence of the fruit something bears in our lives. Christ came to release us from the restraints of legalism, not bring more. I am greatful for that.
Someone on another blog "discussion" on music said contemporary music is empty. I guess as a reason it's "wrong". I guess if it's only as contemporary as the 1800s and 1950s it's what God wants. Wait...many of us sing more contemporary than that, for instance, songs written by RJ Stevens.
This one is "One of these Days" by FFH.
One of these days I'm gonna fly
Over the mountain
One of these days I'm gonna ride
On the silver
lining
One of these days I'm gonna witness
All I've been missing
One of these days
One of these days I'm gonna do
All the things that I've never done
I'm gonna finish all the races
That I've run but I've never won
And I'm gonna see a million faces
And recognize everyone
One of these days
Chorus:
One of these days
Gonna see the hand that took the nails from me
One of these days
Gonna hold the key to the mansion built for me
One of these days
Gonna walk the streets of gold that were paved for me
One of these days
I'm gonna see my Savior face to face
One of these days
One of these days I'm gonna say
Just what became of me
On the day that I believed
When you took myself from me
And I believe I will say
What I would have been
If You didn't save me
One of these days
And one of these days I'm gonna talk
With all the saints that have gone before
And in their sandals I will walk
And we will sit upon the shore
And I will learn all the things
That I never knew before
All this and more
One of these days I'll finally be
In a place where there's no more need
No more pain and no more grief
No more foolish disbelief
And all the joy there will be
When at last we finally see
One of these days
It's very encouraging to me personally at least. When I'm having a rough day, it helps me forget what's troubling me. It reminds me that one of these days...
My children and I listen to Contemporary Christian Rock music while we are in the car. I have been brought to tears and to convictions in these songs. I think God chose music because it speaks to people. Maybe not to all the people all the time, but to the people who are needing something there is a song there for them. Our God is so Wise and so giving to allow us all types of music that speak to us!
I label some modern "religious" music such as the "camp" songs as "superficial praise". As we said in the 60s, "they got no soul". Let me hasten to add that some of the older songs are just plain silly. Now, there are some excellent modern song writers such a Glenda Schales, Twila Paris, Anne Herring, and Ken Young. I don't totally agree with Steve. I think RJS's Immortally Arrayed is very good.
