This is what gets me going in the morning....literally....:) 11-21-08 12:13pm EST
tommyswifeShe is her mommy's baby! I think she is perfect! Thanks to his wife for the photo!
whipsmileshe's a cutie, that's for sure
mamahastingsUgh, I need a Emma hug. Did I tell you that every doll in the house is named "Emma?"
mandyhayes1What a cutie! She is getting sooo big! Crazy how fast they grow!
annashusbandHow beautiful! JT's going to have to hit the weights. He's gotta put all those boys in line (with Daddy's help, of course)!
justgAwwwwwwwwwww....precious!
mockinbirdsweet!!
kmedasmomMakes me miss her even more. By the way, we're home. Been home for about 20 min. Miss everyone so much. See you in 3 weeks. Byeluvyabyecya
stu192Thanks for the refocusing. We appreciate that a lot in you.
lefantstafoooh... swissmiss!
cute. kiddo.
jayActually, we are on our best behavior whenever we have company. How do you know what a frat house is like? Emma is gorgeous!
amcmichaelshe is so pretty and I love to see her smile!!!! What a cutie
joyinthejourneySo sweet. I would love to see a picture of all of you!
hastingsthat and the swiss miss on the counter!
heatheronthehillabout the back carry... Right now I have my husband help me get him situated for the back carry as we sort of train Jack how to do it. He can do it all by himself though! I'm too nervous to try it right now. It's best to practice over a bed in case the baby rolls off. There is a good video online - you should be able to find it by googling something like, "Mei Tai" and "back carry" and it shows a mom putting her toddler in a back carry all by herself - very cool! Anyway, I LOVE this carrier - it is very comfortable for the baby and for me and so much more secure than a ring sling or a pouch sling at this point. I would highly recommend one! I wish I'd had one sooner!

...There is much to do, there is work on every hand... 11-12-08 01:19pm EST

Update-Please go welcome our good minister and friend Aaron and give him pleo tips! Tommy and I feel so priviledged to count Anna and Aaron and their children as friends. Add him to your friends list he has good thoughts!

A lot has been going on around here, but it is not interesting enough to report. I have missed everyone as our internet has been down for a few days. I am gearing up the holidays. I love Thanksgiving and JT and I have started a unit study on Thanksgiving. He is adorable when he says Mayflower and Cornucopia. He wants to put the Christmas tree up now because his Aunt NNDI did yesterday. I keep telling him that mommy has a very strict policy that no and I mean NO Christmas decorations enter this home until we have given the proper thanks at Thanksgiving. No offense to my crazy little sis who likes to enjoy her tree longer and also who I know loves Thanksgiving day, but why do people not want to give this holiday it's due? It is very biblical, and although I think we should give thanks to God on a daily basis not just on the fourth Thursday in November, I also feel that we should embrace Thanksgiving in all it's historical value before we bring in the gaudy tackiness of Christmas.

Don't get me wrong. I am not a hater of Christmas, in fact, I quite enjoy this holiday and I always have. I was always the first one up growing up and my sisters are still scarred for the early mornings. Hey, it is a crime to be up later than 7:30am on Christmas morning!!! I am also enjoying Christmas time with children. It reminds me a little of the Running of the Bulls in Spain. Or with the paper flying around, Times Square at midnight New Years.

Back to Thanksgiving...What are some of your favorite traditions or dishes? We like Sweet Potato Casserole in my family. My sister-in-law makes a wonderful pumpkin role and how could I forget Turkey hotshots on Thanksgiving night! One of my favorite traditions is FOOTBALL!!!! But most of all I love the family and the bounty in which we can all glorify and thank the one it came from! Enjoy your November leading up to Turkey Day!
lefantstafreal mashed potatoes. that is the sum of it all.
lefantstaf(and they are called oompa loompas)
whipsmileI HATE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS BEFORE THANKSGIVING!!!!

it's not just a pet peeve, it's a passionate loathing.

Thanks for giving Thanksgiving it's due.
curlieI will go with mashed potatoes and stuffing. YUM
madtomkiddThat's ok, today is the day, so you weren't late (^_^).

And 7:30 - are you serious? The sun is up by 7:30, I couldn't sleep past 4:30 or 5:00... and that was until just a couple of years ago! Of course, I'm starting to get up nearly that early every day now (^_^)
smiley_bethI actually heard Christmas music in the stores BEFORE HALLOWEEN! This is getting out of hand.
My all time favorite holiday food was Grandma's Cushaw Pie. I am trying to perfect it, but my biggest regret is that I did not take more time to learn from my grandma while she was still here with us. It's a lot harder to learn a recipe without the master chef.
orangemachineI know I can't wait either!!!
kmedasmomHomemade noodles...square of course...they are the bomb!!! My mom made the best. Thanksgiving was such a big holiday when my mom was still here. She didn't much get in to Christmas. When we were all starting to get married her one request was that she get Thanksgiving and the in-laws could have Christmas. Anyway, she was an awesome cook and made the best noodles. My sisters haven't complained about my noodles though. I love to decorate for Christmas but Thanksgiving is definitely a favorite when it comes to the meaning. There is never any question whether a Christian should celebrate it or not.
Ready or not....here we come!!!!
jasonswife060305I love holidays period! Course you know that we all dont get wrapped up (pardon the pun) in all the greediness of christmas. I just like the times we all get to spend together and now watching our little one enjoy their new things! Love you and see you tomorrow!
amcmichaelAngel I agree with you completely!!! So many people just skip over Thanksgiving! I will enjoy christmas AFTER thanksgiving!! My favorite food is my grammas noodles they are homemade and oh so yummy!!!
orangemachineHi Sister Mary Margaret!! I can't wait until Saturday for Addi's birthday!! I can't wait to see you all(not "ya'll") :-) C ya then! Love ya!
ashleybwow there are a lot of "passionate" people when it comes to thanksgiving vs. christmas i personally don't have a favorite as long as nndi makes me deviled eggs :)
ashleybalthough since christmas is the holiday i get to spend with my family i would have to choose that one...
ashleybnot that i hate spending time with the in-laws but they don't always have deviled eggs on thanksgiving and thats a crime in my eyes
mamahastingsPreach it sister! I hate how Thanksgiving seems to be getting more of a boot every year. I really want to embrace it before all the Christmas stuff interferes, but this year I am stuck a bit... Thanksgiving is a bit later than usual and Rosemary's birthday is the same weekend. If I wait till after that we will totally be into December before the tree goes up, and I don't know if I can handle that :)

You all eat deviled eggs on Thanksgiving??? I am sorry, but that is totally weird. Deviled eggs are to the Fourth of July, as cranberry sauce is to Thanksgiving. You just can't do that!
orangemachineI know! It was awsome when we crossed the bridge! I was like "I'm Home!!" :-)
stu192I will have my great Thanksgiving meal with a side of Christmas carols, please! Although I have to squelch my enthusiasm for Amanda, I still have her listening to Christmas songs here and there.
orangemachineI had a wonderful time with you guys!
mockinbirdhash brown casserole. (sorry Ang)
stu192I was concerned that what I wrote would seem like a challenge to your blog, but it isn't. You just got me to think, and I wanted to write about what a fanatic I am about the "season" (and I don't think I even came close to explaining fully). I appreciate the way you make us think.
jayThat's funny. I think I could sleep in now-a-days, but I used to get up at 5am with both John, Lynda, and Mom. Dad was the only sane one out of teh lot of us:o)

God is In Control... 11-03-08 08:16am EST
Mr. Aaron Kemple our preacher at West Broad gave a wonderful sermon yesterday afternoon on things to keep in mind this week as we face changes in our country and government. I really appreciated it and some of these passages gave me real peace about what could, may and will happen.

Romans 13:1-"Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God."

Proverbs 14:34-"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."

Proverbs 21:1- "The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes."

God to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon: "...In order that the living may know that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes and sets over it the lowliest of men." (Daniel 4:17)

Jesus to Governor Pilate: "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above." (John 19:11)

God to Pharoah, King of Egypt: "For if by now I had put forth My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth. But, indeed, for this reason I HAVE ALLOWED YOU TO REMAIN, in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth." (Exodus 9:15-16)

Last but certainly not least, God ALLOWED Manasseh, king of Judah, to reign for 55 years. He was horrible and wicked. He put a carved image in the house of the Lord. He sacrificed his children to idols and he practiced witchcraft, soothsaying and the use of mediums. And the Lord let him stay on the throne for 55 years.

Puts things in perspective...doesn't it...we get a new choice in four years. No matter what happens and no matter who takes office God is in control! Praise him today.
kmedasmomSome shakin up is what this country needs to get back to God. It's just a shame that sometimes the good must suffer with the bad in order for that change to take place. Good thoughts and a hearty Amen!!
kmedasmomHope I didn't shock you too bad ^^ being serious an all....hahahahahahahah. You know it can't last long!!hahahahahahahhahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha
cruisingmomGreat reminder. I am trying to be upbeat and a bit snotty about tomorrow. I am looking forward to being able to say "Neener, neener, neener!!" to the Obama camp. It could happen.
mamahastingsGood post. I do hate that some "innocent" people are being caught in the struggling economy and other problems we face, but something about all this just makes me believe that it is good for us. Maybe a deep depression is what we need to make us realize that we are dependent on God.
sallyanneAmen!
whipsmileI like the viewpoint on this. It certainly does put things in perspective. I hope after tomorrow you and I can still have meaningful and interesting conversations on politics...and anything else for that matter!
mockinbirda duty?? I am first a Christian, but also an American. One does not negate the other. I am grateful for the privileges that affords me, especially the right to vote my conscience withut reprisals. If all governments exist by God's authority, than the Democratic process is by his will and I choose to participate in that form of government set up by man, but allowed by God. Does that make it my duty?? As an American, yes it does. As a Christian i don't see a reason why it shouldn't. But each must follow his own conscience, so that's up to him.
kmedasmomGo say hi to Jared!!!! He quit lurking!!
amcmichaelStewy and I were talking this morning after we voted. We were both very happy to have voted although decided that next time if we already know who we are voting for than we should just do it early! We are both at peace with everything. It is in Gods hands. He is in control! We will be ok! I will not get stressed out if "we" don't win! although I agree with her that I will enjoy the neeener neeener neeener!
hastingsLet me say that I am very much looking forward to being able to hear Aaron preach in as little a 7 months. That is unless God has plans I am not aware of.
orangemachineI hope you got your coffee!! I am missing you guys really bad!!!!! Have fun @ your parents!!
jasonswife060305I love you! Happy election day. God Bless America!
angiepriceThank you! We were really happy with how they turned out too. Aunt "Annie" is such a great photographer!!! :)

Question?.... 11-01-08 10:02pm EST
Is it a Christian's duty to vote?

I feel very strongly one way, but I would like to listen to others. So, what do you think, in light of the word, is the answer. Please be nice to others.
kmedasmomIt is our Christian duty to stand firm against...Yard Art!!! Mwa hahaha!!!!!
hastingswell if you want to stretch the idea of "Render unto Cesar what is Cesars" to a general idea of... heed the government. than yes. We also are commanded to let our light shine, and by voting and talking to others it is a great way to share with them what God wants and where the Bible stands on some things. We are to be people of action. I don't know though.... I don't like anyone on any ballot minus Alan Keys who goes nowhere.
orangemachineI can't wait for you to see it either!!!!!!!!
mamahastingspondering.... hmmmm.... I certainly do not understand why a Christian would not want to, however, I would hesitate to call it a sin if they did not. Unless, I am missing something, we really do not see Christians, in the scriptures, involved very much in politics. It seems most commands and examples instruct us in one-on-one relationships. However, we are to submit to our government (as long as it does not contradict the Word) therefore, I do not understand why a Christian would not want to help mold the country he is subject to.
mamahastingsThat was as clear as mud :)

Another Rant... 10-29-08 06:17pm EST
Okay so this one is a little less serious, but what about....

Concrete lawn geese?

Why have one?

Why dress one up?

The people that own them do know that they are not real, right?

justgWait. I don't think I know about the geese. Really? People dress them?
hastingsits just something for teenagers to steal and put on some other lawn. I think there were less than 50 produced. they just move around a lot.
kellyi love him. he said exactly what i was thinking once i read 'Concrete lawn geese?' the concrete dalmations are much more fun to move :) (just so everyone knows it is against the law to paint peoples concrete lawn characters)
smiley_bethI "inherited" my grandma's goose when she passed away and my brother was in charge of the house and all the unwanteds. It became a joke between us. But when my brother had it brought to my house, our neighbor went gaga over it and we gladly gave it to her. It made her day. So a year later when we saw one in our subdivision on the curb with a sign that said "Please Take Me" we took it to give to my brother as a joke. We expected to drive by the next day and see a sign that said "Please return the goose, my kids were trying to get rid of it." I think my nephews used it as target practice.
curlieI don't get it either.
kmedasmomI call that yard art and it should be illegal. I think we should have a yard-art-patrol here in the US and be able to ticket people for such tackiness. I nominate myself to head up these efforts. I'm Nicole Wall and I approve this message!!!
kmedasmomAngel - are you wanting one for Christmas?
I can let Tommy know. No, No, No! You don't need to thank me, I'm happy to help with your yard art projects.
jenI perfer the little gnomes...if I was going to have anything...which I don't.
whipsmilehahaha! my mom and brother have had a concrete lawn goose war for a long time now. It even got to the point where my mom found the head of a concrete goose in the fish tank and josh found the head in his bed!

It's so much fun to witness!
amcmichaelmy great aunt had one. The funny thing was she didn't even have a lawn it lived beside her fireplace. We used to buy clothes for it for her. You are right they are tacky. The guy who lived in this house before us was very into such "yard art" TACKY!! Love ya missed you tonight. I hope you are doing better!
justgLOL..I'm amused. It must be a northern thing. Give me a flamingo any day!
mister_cHA! Yep mom and I sneek the goose head into each other's house and hide it somewhere. We both think they are the most tacky things imaginable.
jasonswife060305so telling people I broke your mixer eh??? :) again IM SORRY!!!!! hehehe and i wonder who is gonna get grandma b's whole family of concrete geese when she leaves this world? Not me!!! c i said ti first! :)
madtomkiddIf someone dropped one off at our place, I'd have a nice target for shooting practice. (^_^)
lefantstafi think its meant to be a serious reminder that geese are dangerous animals. children want to pet the geese, but they could lose fingers! so the OBVIOUS solution to this is to construct a concrete goose. a safe, stable, non biting pet.
whipsmiletruth...i got chased down by a real goose once...NOT FUN!
justgPhotobucket
justgIs ^^^^ what you are talking about??? I'm fascinated, but not in a good way. People actually buy clothes for these guys? LOL!
justgPlease don't send me one!!! LOL! "Not that there is anything wrong with her..."
mockinbirdOn of my first comments about Ohio after moving from Texas......"They just don't dress up barnyard animals where I came from."
mandyhayes1I requested that you get an invite :o)
orangemachineOf course I will!!!! I would love to...now, don't fight over me...there is plenty of orangemachine to go around!! :-)
kmedasmomUh hum...lalalala....
Oh, how I miss Angel, Oh, How I miss An..ge.el, Oh, how I miss Angel, because of her prayers for me! (Thank you Sister Mary Margaret)
I miss you. I will try to call tomorrow so JT can talk to his sweetie pie!!
