Hebrews 12:16
“ Let there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.”
In life we can be an Esau.
After baptism through Christ we receive a promise just like Esau did. This promise is like a birthright. We receive it when we are born into Christ just like Esau did. That “birthright” reminds us as a covenant that if we continue to walk in Christ and follow his commandments that our “birthright” will continue to be ours.
But, as humans we fall easy and sin often temps us. In our failures we often fall and “sell our birthright” for only a single meal, a sin, or a pleasure. When we become like Esau and sell our birthright, we sin and then our covenant is broken.
Why in the world would we want to turn our back on our Jehovah and sell our ticket for eternal life?
Let us never be a person of selfishness and sell our only hope of salvation for a single meal.
I'm actually working on 2 Devos about this same Idea: The Weight of Sin and The Sacrifice of a Savior. Basically centered around the idea that we, as humans, forget how terrible/heavy sin truly is. And that if we recognize it for everything it is, we would be less a part of it than we sometimes are.
Really good thoughts. I have only heared that passage a couple times while reading through that area of the bible, but had never really thought of what it meant. Thanks :)
Today is 8/8/08. It's pretty hard to believe I will be a Sophomore.
The Kleinwood singing was unbelievable.
A lot of my close camp friends were there.
That made it even more special that I was singing praises to my God with my Christian friends.
1,300 people were there. Talk about uplifting. =]
I've been running lately. It's a free stress reliever.
I love it.
Have you ever had one of those nights that you just prayed and prayed and couldnt stop because you had so much on your mind that you wanted to tell Jehovah?
Last night was one of them. We need to have these days.
The Rocket Summer is incredible music. Im in love.
Twilight was pretty amazing too. Read it.
I am thankful for the hard times in my life. It makes me appreciate the easy times soo much more.
So, last post I said I would comment on the passage in 1 Thessalonians 3:11-12.
This passage says, " and to make it an ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need."
Here's my thoughts:
Paul commanded us 3 things. He said lead a quiet life, deal with your own business, and work with your hands.
I believe what he means by a quiet life is just deal with your family and don't be showy. Don't make it a point for everyone to know about your life and your problems.
He also says to deal with your own business. Ladies, lets not be involved in other people's business. We have our own to deal with. I dont believe he is saying don't help others. But, we need to deal with our selves and our family before we delve into others.
The final commandment is work with your hands. The reason behind this is so you can own your own living if something were to happen.
The main reason behind rules is so that we behave properly toward outsiders and not be in need.
This scripture needs to be in the fore front of our minds. Remember Paul's words this week.
It will come in handy when we are tempted to get into others business...
I might not be right on the money with this passage. But, this is what I have decided on now.
Any thoughts or comments would be welcomed on this passage.
Have a relaxing weekend and remember God in all your activities.
If he wouldnt be there with you doing what you plan on doing, don't do it.
so much wisdom, from such a young lady. Thank you for all of your spiritual comments. You are quite an inspiration to me. I have thought many times, if Faith grows up to be as sweet, kind, and spiritually minded young christians as you and Ashlyn, I will feel like I have done a good job.
