Simply Complicated 09-06-08 02:34pm EST

The move is still ongoing. I'm hoping to have our furniture sometime today but it's already 2pm and so far no word from the movers. In the mean time my roommate and I have been staying in the Marriott. Quite nice actually and I've come to realize that I don't even really miss having my things at all. Simple is much better in my opinion. I don't even mind wearing the same clothes over and over again. It curtainly makes laundry much easier. Why do we have so much stuff anyway? I think it's b/c our houses are bigger.

Work has been a bit of an adjustment. I've had to wake up about 2 hours earlier than what I was used to in Tampa. As a field superintenent it's best if I'm there when all the other tradesmen show up which is about 6am. Boo... I need more sleep.

Our project is located at Ft. Benning which I'm told is the largest infantry training post in the US. The project is absolutely monstrous. We are building (20) new Barracks, (4) Battalion Head Quarters, (2) dinning hall facilities and several other command posts and PT fields for a total of $230+ million. Unfortunately we are 2 months behind schedule and having to work pretty much 7 days a week. As supervisors we'll end up rotating weekends but it can still be stressful at times.

I don't mind sharing this picture for your enjoyment.

This was the cake that Richard Smotherman designed for me at my going away celebration just before I left. I think it captures much of my personality.

summeraly

Ha!!! The cake is great! No furniture still?!?!? That's annoying.

crazy_mama

That is the cutest cake ever. Isn't Richard the best?!?!!

jessicad

that is an awesome cake!

ladyinlutz

Hilarious...only Richard!! :)

stylinmama

Great cake!

sunnylee

the cake looks great...how'd it taste?

jodimn

Love the cake! We're simplifying our lives a lot by selling off at least half of our things.

Thank You 09-01-08 09:03pm EST

Thank you to everyone who helped me pack and load up all my stuff for my very rushed move to Columbus, GA. I am blogging to you now from the living room floor of my new apartment. My roomate Matt and I expect the movers to bring our furniture sometime Thursday. Thank you also to my Dad who made huge sacrifices to help me with this transition in my life. Thank you Dad for the true example you've been to me as a leader, a friend, a brother, and a father. To all my Tampa people (and yes I do claim you all) I will miss you but never forget you.

beckylboyer

Good luck with this newest chapter of your life. I hope you are very happy in your new home!

nancyjo

Congratulations on the move. I hope it is good for you. Good luck with whatever lies ahead!

misssonja

You're absolutely right -- they test and then they abort (which is wrong no matter what, but sometimes the test is wrong!)

lw

Good luck with everything in Georgia! So what brought you to Georgia? A move is always exciting and fun to think about the possibilities!

summeraly

Picking Up Hitch-Hikers 08-28-08 10:30am EST

I've always held a double standard on this one. On the one hand I encourage people to be more considerate when it comes to offering a ride to a stranger on the side of the road. Yet, on the other hand if you’re a girl I'm against the idea all together. I've had a bit of a bad streak going lately. About a month ago I picked up a gothic artist with bright red dreads and full body tattoos. Even though she was very friendly and attractive the poor thing was on a mission of doom and despair. Her philosophy in life was to try anything and everything at least once even against her better judgment. She has no regrets in life only disappointments in people who have taken advantage of her and let her down. She has worked as district manager in clothing, worked the floor at a skating rink, worked in homeless shelters, with disabled children, as a escort, a tour manager for bands, singer, crime scene clean up, stripper, t-shirt screen printer and much more. I was pretty sympathetic to her story but new that our lives were very different from each other. E.g. she lives in a nudist resort in Land 0'Lakes I live in a clothed community in Carrollwood. Something told me that it wasn’t a smart idea to get a whole lot more involved in this girls life so we parted and went our separate ways.

I'll make the second story a lot shorter. I thought I was offering HER a service by helping her out… but as it turned out she was the one offering the services. She flashed me and told me the she was not a cop. I told her that I didn't think we were on the same wave link and I kicked her out of my Jeep.

P.S. Just in case you think that I only look for female hitch hikers I'll have to tell you about the guy that I picked up who told me that his mind was being controlled by Hillary Clinton and the Military.

whipsmile

BE CAREFUL!!!!!! seriously, you are a great guy...but BE CAREFUL!!

DessertDiva

Uhhhh

DessertDiva

Ditto

amyrea23

wow!

superstar12

No way! That's crazy!

smittymonkey

Maybe you've picked up enough hitch hikers for your lifetime... I'd say you could be done now!

megan

Weird!

lefantstaf

shes had a lot of jobs.

whipsmile

also, crime scene cleaner uppers make mad coinage.

bigdeborah

haha...you and my husband should exchange hitch-hiker stories. he had the same thing happen with a woman "hitch-hiker" one time (except luckily he didn't get flashed!) He just asked her 'where do you need to go?' and she said 'where ever you want to go' and he said, 'well, no, you were the one who needed a ride. where do you need a ride to?' she said something like, 'you pick the place' and at this point of realization, he started freaking out about getting pulled over and about how the cops would NEVER believe that he didn't know she was a hooker. He ended that ride in probably the same amount of time that you did!

happinessisthelord

Yikes. You still did the right thing in picking her up; thanks. :) Have you moved yet?

stylinmama

You're a lot braver than I am...Braver? Or Crazier? ;)

dave_beltz

hahahahahaha

iamjane

There are some crazy people out there!

crazy_mama

WOW!!! I personally like the story of the guy whose mind was being controlled. Interesting. I have been trying to get a hold of my dad all day to get you that info. I haven't forgotten about you!

the_girl_next_door

yikes!

summeraly

Woah....I don't think you ever told me the end of that story. There are some really interesting people out there. Good luck this weekend!

mjintexas

Good grief. I'm glad I fall in the category of "it's a bad idea."

butterflyhomerachel

You make me really nervous when you pick up strangers. Seriously. Of course your stories are interesting....

ryanandnancy

Wow, that's pretty interesting. When do you leave for GA?

flychic

Oh my goodness. That is, um, ah...I'm speechless. Did you learn anything from that? ha ha.

lisarene

I've recently started thinking that maybe God puts people along the side of the road for us to talk to. He crosses our paths for a reason. I myself feel really uncomfortable with picking someone up (especially with the kids in the car), but who's to say that if God puts them in our paths won't he be in control of the situation....Just thinking out loud. Not really saying that I've come to a conclusion in the matter...

TS Fay 08-18-08 04:53pm EST

The natives seem to be pretty calm so I guess that means there's no reason for me to get all worked up either. It's just business as usually here in Tampa on the eve of the storm. Since no one else seems to knows where TS Fay is going to hit land I might as well venture a guess myself. I predict the storm well continue a straight corse northward gaining strength to Cat 2 hurricane and eventually making land in the Steinahatchee, FL area (80 miles north of Tampa Bay). As you may have noticed I'm having a good time with all the excitement and it's off to clean my tub cause I just might be drinking out of it before all this is over. :)

Peace. 8/18/08 16:51

whipsmile

be safe and enjoy it if you can!

browngirl22

Well I get a day off tomorrow. Not to happy about that but what can you do but to have to take advantage of a day to be forced to stay inside.

amyrea23

woo hoo that sounds so exciting drinking out of a bath tub; ) lol.

kcrxgirl

our dog drinks out of the bathtub . . . maybe it's not so bad

joe

chasing hurricanes was my favorite intramural sport at FC :)

mjintexas

Mmmm... tub water...

happinessisthelord

be safe!! hope you'll post again soon so we know if your predict was right or wrong!!

globetrotter

You might be right after all about Steinhatchee, except from the other direction. This is the wierdest tropical storm I have ever seen.

maucknot

Well, you missed it, but it's always fun to guess. Fay remnants due here over the weekend.

maucknot

Well, come on over and visit!

madtomkidd

I saw your comment on Miriam's page about washing issues. I was pondering the same points. I'm pretty certain we're living different lifestyles (not too many IT-professional-by-day-farmer-preacher-by-night guys on here), so, with the work in the barn, with animals and the associated construction projects related to the same, I'm showering quite a bit just so my wife will let me share the bed with her. OTOH, we've removed the anitbacterial everything (except for first aid) and let our girls play outside and get dirty - we're even hoping to soon have raw goat milk (non-pasteurized), because God intended for us to have an immune system that was strengthened by careful exposure. I suppose it's the internal complement to your point about external matters.

elizabethb

So are you surviving Fay?

elizabethb

Guess what game I've been playing again! None other than our favorite card game hand and foot. I finally googled it to find the directions. I had completely forgotten that feeling of utter joy that overwhelms you once you finally get to pick up your foot!

abigail

josh, how r ya? you are moving,eh? i hope all is going well and goes well for the move! are you excited about it?! sounds like you are ready for a change. i'll say a prayer for ya!

tickets

haha, clean your tub

Here Are the Facts 08-12-08 04:16pm EST

Fact: My Jeep cost me $2,600.00 this month in repairs (blown head gasket).

Fact: I caused over $1,000.00 of damage to my scooter trying to pry open the storage compartment lock. I have no patience when it comes to being trapped like that.

Fact: I am moving to Columbus, Georgia (not Russia) for work. I leave Tampa in two weeks.

DessertDiva

Money, money, money, monnnaaayy! Are you happy/sad/unemotional about the move?
