If "call" is used in its usual sense, and "IP" refers to an IP, or Internet address, and "gean" is a reference to "Aegean", then: Callipygean (v.) - to send a signal to a Greek website.
Alternatively, if "callipy" is a corrupted form of "calypso," and "gean" is used as above, then: Callipygean (adj.) - A person of mixed Carribean and Greek ancestry
And playing on the theme above, if we make "ipy" related to certain individuals most often connected to Woodstock, protests, long hair and free love, then: Callipygean (adj.) - A person of mixed Carribean, Greek, and hippy ancestry.
If, "CALLI" or "CALI" is where all the beautiful people are,
And, "PYGE" means "a shape or mold"
And, "EAN" means "belonging to,"
Then, "CALLIPYGEAN" must mean "A person fitting the shape or mold of a Californian." ?
From the last round:
Abecedarian: A person who is learning the alphabet
Curtis - wins by volume and time-in, Ethan wins for real because he pretty much was right - yikes.
From the last round:
DEFINITION, Basorexia: An overwhelming desire to neck or kiss
I think Curtis won by sheer volume of submissions and degree of thought devoted to the solution.
New Word (please follow rules of previous post below)
ABECEDARIAN
A B E C E D A R I A N
Enjoy
If "ABE" is a nickname for "Abraham"...
And "CEDAR" is a genus of tree that grows in the Mediterranian region...
And "IAN" is an ending that means "relating to"...
Then, "ABECEDARIAN" should have something to do with "The Trees belonging to Abraham" (eg. The Wells of Abraham)
If "A" is a prefix that means "against"...
And, "BE" means "to exist"...
And, "CED(A)E" is a French word that means "to withdraw" (who knew the French would have a word for retreating?)...
And, "RIAN" is an obvious mispelling of "rain"...
Then, "ABECEDARIAN" should mean "A continuing situation where it does not stop raining."
If "AB" means "push away from"...
And "ECED" (or "EKED") is Latin meaning "to increase"...
And "ARIAN" is a dogma that teaches God created Jesus so Jesus could create the world...
Then, "ABECEDARIAN" should mean "to increasingly push away from the Arian doctrine."
Love the game - let's play a pleo-version.
Rules:
1. The idea is to come up with a definition or a description of the offered word/subject
2. You may not look up the definition and post it
3. PLay it for laughs, not accuracy
4. limit of 3 submissions per word/subject
I can't think of any other rules right now, so we may have to add some arbitrarily and unfairly later.
Our word for this round:
BASOREXIA
B A S O R E X I A
I'll post soon with the real definition and the decision on this round's winner. Feel free to root for a particular submission.
If "anorexia" is starving yourself of food to make yourself thinner...
Then, "basorexia" should be starving yourself of the bass guitar to make the band sound better.
If "BASOR" is the acronym for the "Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research"...
And, "exia" comes from the Greek root for authority...
Then, "BASORexia" should be doing something by the authority of the schools that examine lamps and rugs. (?)
If "BASO" refers to allergetic white blood cells
And, "REX" means "king" or someone with authority...
And, "IA" is a feminine ending...
Then, "BASOREXIA" should mean it's the White Queen of Allergies? Queen of White Allergies? Allergies of White Queens? Does it have anything to do with white guys in San Franscisco during the Spring?
These are getting stupider each time. I should stop.
Concerning the political discussions...
So - we don't get our way, and that means that people are:
1. Stupid
2. Insane
3. Weak
4. Immoral
5. Unethical
6. Ignorant
Or any combination of these qualities. I like a good, spirited debate, but I also like a good-spirited debate. I don't mind that you feel strongly about things, and that you disagree passionately with the "other side", but this character-assignment stuff is shameful. I'd like for someone to find condemnation of socialism, communism, or capitalism in the Bible? Please don't be so arrogant that you think God likes us better (the USA) because we're capitalists and other nations are not. Please don't assume that just because a person supports another person's right to disagree and hold a different view that they are agreed.
Let me clarify:
I voted for John McCain, and with the exception of a couple of city positions, voted Republican right down the line. I prefer, personally, the Republican view of how to do things, and how to address problems. HOWEVER, I DO NOT think Democrats are wrong or sinful or evil because they differ with me. I do not think that because Barak Obama is a liberal Democrat that he is the anti-Christ or the destroyer of the US. He won the election - I'm willing to give him the chance to prove me wrong, and I'm willing to see that he get the chance to do his best. Unless I'm mistaken, that is at the root of Democracy - let the people decide what they want to do.
And here come the cries of "because he's black", "nobody knows what he stands for", "he's promised people a free ride - that's what they like about him", but right alongside all the reasons NOT to vote for him (his record, his policies, his positions, etc). Do you hear yourself? YOU know about him, YOU have heard about his positions, YOU know about his associations and policies - BUT THE OTHER PEOPLE DON'T?!?! You're assuming that everybody else is so stupid they couldn't know these things? Those of you who are Christians ought to examine yourselves, and find more graciousness and a better view of others before you are judged for having too little love for your fellow man, and being unmerciful to your fellow sinner.
This is what we have - let's deal with it and make the best of it. Republicans lost - get over it and move on. There are more elections in the future. Will this be the worst thing that could have ever happened to the US? What if it was? Do you think this was against God's will? Do you honestly think God was rooting for the Republicans? Or are you mature enough to understand that God wanted righteousness to be promoted, regardless of party lines or surface designations? Yes, Republicans are more commonly anti-abortion and anti-gay, but I've noticed they are largely pro-divorce and pro-intoxicant, as well as pro-profanity and pro-denominationalism. Is one better/worse than another? It is a carnal and immature mind that makes distinctions like these buffet-style.
So be nice. Be gracious. Be patient. Love a little more and gripe a little less. Let people prove who they are or are not, and leave the prognosticating to the weathermen and pundits (who get paid the same - right/wrong, if you really want to get upset about something!)
I'm sorry, but some of you might think this was specific - that I had you, specifically, in mind when I wrote this. This was the result of a heap, a large compilation of statements (both here on pleo and in the real world). If I had a gripe with one of us I would have addressed it singularly. I love you all, and wish nothing but good and right for you. This was meant to be brotherly chiding, not wholesale ripping. I'm going to post a game we can all play next.
I think you're right about a lot of this, but I do think you should acknowledge the fact that many people who voted for Obama (in my age bracket especially) knew nothing about him and only voted for him because it's the cool/popular thing to do. I have a lot of respect for people who voted for him after doing research, honestly. But I've talked to so many people, walked on college cmapuses, where people had no idea what any of the candidates stood for, but were determined to vote because companies like Starbucks made it sound important. Well, it is, but what is also important is INFORMED voting. Uninformed voting is irresponsible!
I'm fine with Obama winning. That's usually how it works; as a cycle between the parties. In a way it keeps this country balanced even if I'm not fond of Democrat politics. But I'm sick and tired of all the ads telling college students "Just vote." It doesn't matter how much you know about politics, just go fill in a box on election day. It's this irresponsibility that drives me up the wall! If you do the research and decide you like Obama better, that's fine; but don't vote if you have no idea what's going on.
