Anyone who has come to winter camp or RYC will already be on the list.

This summer has been full of good things and has gone by way too fast. After 4 wonderful camps, I am reminded that there are other people living in this world that are trying their best to not be of this world.
We are studying Daniel at Kimberly this quarter. As I study this book, it makes me reflect back over the experiences of this summer. The young people I met and how "relevant" the study of Daniel is for them today. (Of coarse, in reality, the entire Bible is "relevant" today to people of any age.) However, Daniel, was a young man. He stood up and his stand was known. He stood, no matter what the consequences.
It makes me sad to hear Christians who allow or even encourage their children to do just the opposite of Daniel. It is, many times, the parents who can not bear for their children to stand out from the world. Parents who encourage their children to go to the prom, dress immodestly, especially when sports or special occasions are involved. That is so public and when a true stand could mean influencing the world and making an impact for good. Some even base their decision on what other "Christians" in the area think about it. What is our standard? It is not geographical. Where would that reasoning have put Daniel?
If you are reading this blog, and feel the pressure of this world or even from other Christians to compromise what you know is right, then go back and read the book of Daniel. It could encourage and renew your strength to stand.
That will be so much fun! We'll be in the mountains for about 5 days in early October for our annual hike up LeConte with a group. We've hiked with Samuel the last 2 years, but not sure whether we'll attempt it with both of them! Hope the weather is gorgeous for you (and us !)
You go as far south as you can (past souvenier city (on right) and where the road T's you turn left and then the Lighthouse is on the right... a few high rises down. We stayed in a three bedroom condo. Mom really wanted a 4 room but they were booked when she decided to get a place!
I do believe that when you purchase one of the study bibles, you can access it online also and there's a place to take notes and also you can give others your access code to alsobe able to read your notes and write their own... makes personal studying with someone far away pretty conveinent to see your notes! I can't wait to get mine! I pre-ordered mine to get the 20% discount. It should be sent once it's out in Oct.
We're doing our annual LeConte hike (although it remains to be seen if both of us plus both kids will actually hike !) with a group from Nashville. We'll be hiking Thur & Friday; we will probably be worshipping at King's Branch Road in Pigeon Forge on Sunday morning. Will you all be worshipping there? If so, maybe we could have lunch together? Then we're headed home sometime Sunday. (We're staying in Wear's Valley in a cabin with most of our group, before & after the hike.)
2 camps down and 2 to go.
RYC 2nd camp was just as wonderful as the first.
I love seeing friends again and even more, meeting new ones. It is so amazing to me how wonderful it is to have such a large "family" and continuously meeting new members of our family and sharing so many common things.
GEMS begins a week from tomorrow and even though I am tired right now from the past week, I am so energized, just thinking about GEMS. We have so many wonderful things planned and the girls coming are such an encouragement to me.
By the way, to all my "daughters" in the bunkhouse, I MISS YOU!
What? Neopets? Oh, well, if they get sick then you have to use neopoints to buy a remedy (they are very expensive). And you can buy food and feed them. It's free, you don't use real money. But you play games and earn neopoints. ^_^
Thanks :) Big brother is VERY proud of her... and I'm proud of him for how well he's done. And Thanks, I feel like I look like a bloated, sleep-deprived maniac :)
ok, dear daughter, here's my update, which may have to do for the summer.
A lot of exciting times and good things are going on. The men from Kimberly are working very hard to get our new auditorium finished by September. We have a meeting scheduled with Robert Harkrider the 3rd week. Seems every weekend, we have some "extra" help (and younger) come to town and pitch in. We have been very blessed. Things are really moving along.
My dear hubby is now a virtual employee. His office has moved to the house and he only goes into the company office for meeting, etc. Great savings on gasoline and it's nice having a much more flexible schedule for both of us to see each other!
I am getting ready for all the camps. Very excited, but a little stressed. Starting a week from today , I have a camp every other week until the 1st week in August.
Of course my passion is GEMS camp, but I love the others too and am looking forward to it all.
In getting ready for the "girl's night talk", I have been thinking of several areas I want to cover. I have been making notes on little scraps of paper for weeks. Time is upon me now and I must get my notes to come together and all get along.
I recently heard a talk given by a young man that does bear sharing here:
It was on happiness. What makes you happy? Do you seek happiness? Is it your house, car, boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, family, job, clothes, health, money ?
He pointed out that he hears people say about their children, "I just want them to be happy". Of coarse we want our children to be happy, BUT, it could be what makes them happy is not what would please God. If we , as parents, are not careful , we could encourage the wrong things, just because it makes our children happy. We ,ourselves , could seek the wrong things, just because it makes us happy.
He presented a challenge and I spent some time researching. I could not find a scripture that tells us to seek happiness. We are to seek God and his Word. True and lasting happiness is a result of seeking Him. Happiness by any other means is temporary and meaningless. Psalms 144:15, Psalms 146:5 and Prov 3:13.
I wish for all to have the happiness that is mentioned though out the Psalms and Proverbs.
I would love to see you! I hope you can come by. Sounds like you are very busy! I hadn't remembered that anyone caught catfish here at the lake! Daniel and Alex are fishing one last time right now. They bought bobbers that light up in the dark -- never heard of those!
Looking forward to camp next week! (I can't believe I missed first camp for the first time in... a long time.) Nathan is exceptionally excited.
Those are excellent thoughts. I've had similar thoughts about "I just want my child to be happy." Real happiness is indeed nothing more than a by-product of seeking God and His presence (Psalm 16:11)!
But we never can prove the delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay.
For the favor His shows, and the joy He bestows,
Are for those who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey;
For there's no other way to be happy in Jesus,
Than to trust and obey!
