Thought it was time for a new post, but don't have much to post about. Things are going okay here; the weather is getting cooler, we're getting some much needed rain, and we are all relatively well. Lil Bit loves kindergarten, son is okay with high school, I still enjoy teaching and D/H keeps the computers, etc in running order! Life is good (sigh). Hope everything is well with you all. Looking forward to Thanksgiving holidays. We might try to take a short trip if the gas prices keep going down. AND then it will be Christmas before we know it!! We already have several requests from the kids, but not much shopping done yet. We had hoped to go Tuesday, since we're all out of school, but it's suppose to rain all day, so guess we'll stay close to home. That's about it.
Hope you all have a wonderful Lord's day and a good week.
Our household had a busy and hectic weekend! Everyone seemed to be going in different directions. Son had ballgame in Madison County Friday night. He arrived home about midnight (I stayed up to wait on him) and we had about 7 hours of sleep. We had to get him up and off Saturday morning to a band competition in Troy, Al (200 miles away).
After he left, D/H and I got ready to leave for my 40th (yes, 40th) class reunion!!! It was about an hour & a half away. Before we left, D/H took daughter to a friend from church for the night.
We all arrived safely to and from our destinations. Most had a wonderful time, but all was exhausted. D/H and I arrived home about midnight, but son didn't arrive until 3 AM! And, of course, I waited up for him. It was an hour or so later (after exchanging some details of our adventures) before we made it to bed. It seemed like the alarm went off just as I lay my head down on the pillow. We made it to church on time, went out to eat after services, and we're all just hanging out trying to get some much needed rest.
We all enjoyed our different activities, but boy, did the other people at the reunion look OLD!! :)
may your part-time job never develop into an effort that begins to play with your priorities. I did the same as you, but they discovered latent skills and I began to enjoy and actually anticipate going to work! My kids were in highschool. They didn't need me. And after all I was working to pay for their college. Ha! What load of false reasoning. Fortunately I woke up, hopefully in time... So hang in there. This is just a gentle reminder.
yeah, when we found them we tried to remember if alliators are the kinds that have their babies and leave them, or if they stick around -- we couldn't remember for sure. Regardless, there was a much larger (aka mommy?) alligator off to the side that we kept a careful eye on. However, it didn't make a move, and we got away safely :)
Well, after 13 hours and 45 minutes we have a new grandson.
Name - Ryan Dillon
Weight - 8 pounds 2 ounces (Doctor told us he would be over 9 lbs)
Length - 21 inches
Time of Birth - 9:15 pm
Mother and child are both doing fine and we are all so thankful for this. This is our daughter's second child, the other is a daughter that will be 17 in 7 days! But we are all excited to welcome Ryan into our family. I'll try to write more later, I'm really tired right now.
Well, school has begun and everyone seems to be enjoying it. K is in kindergarten and she can't wait to get up every morning. J is a junior and he is less excited about arising in the morning. I have been busy with school and the house.
We got the carpet down and the rooms changed around. They look good, if I do say so myself! J's is still not finished, but also there. The desk we ordered arrived and the top was scratched quite badly, so we are awaiting the arrival of a replacement. When we get that piece of furniture in the room, it will be pretty much completed. His room is white/black with a red accent wall. K's room is finished, except for 1 item that has not arrived yet. Her walls are white and the bedspread/curtains are done in pinks & greens. The carpet is medium beige with flecks of different colors. It goes with any color you put with it, which is what we really wanted since we're not sure what colors the other 2 bedrooms will eventually be. They will be tackled at a later time. I did deep cleaning (baseboards, doors/frames, etc) when the furniture was moved and as the closets were emptied.
That's about it from our house, we're just relaxing and enjoying the day off. Have a great week!
You are right, teaching our children begins with a thankful mom. And deliberately voicing our thanksgiving helps our children to do the same. You are a good friend to me. Thank you.
As of this morning, Mother and Daddy were still enjoying the hospitality of my good friend, Texas Linda, in Conroe on the other side of Houston. Texas Linda (and Russ) did not suffer any damage, but Linda's parents had a tree crash into their home into their bathroom, which is a couple of miles down the same road Linda lives on. Highways are still flooded in Galveston County and there's too much debris on the roads for people to return to their homes to even see if homes are damaged. My older sister knows people who had to stay in Texas City, and when they're able to get out, they will go check out my parent's home before Mother and Daddy head home (hopefully). The 3 loations where both of my sisters and Texas Linda are holed up are currently without power, and I'm trying not to waste their cell phone batteries too much. Things could have been much, much worse.
Well, son's room is finally painted, etc and carpet is being chosen tomorrow. We decided to go ahead and get new carpet for all the bedrooms and hallway. When the carpet is in, we will change the furniture around in 3 rooms and we have some new furniture coming. The paint and molding look really good. We only had slight (joke) problems with that wall and it took forever to get someone to "float" the wall. He had to come out 3 different times, several days apart and then we had to "guardz" the walls and apply our paint. Oh well, it took forever, but the end result was worth it!
One thing that wasn't worth it: Saturday night while using the nail gun to put up the crown molding, I got my little toe tangled in the cord and it formed a nice "L" with the toe next to it. I broke it good (or bad)!! We called the doctor at home, but he said unless the bone was coming through the skin or such, there was no reason to go to the emergency room. They would only push it back against the other toe and tape them together. I had already done that (ouch). I can walk on it a little now and it almost has stopped throbbing. It's purple from the toes to a little more than halfway up the foot (on top), but not swollen nearly as much as yesterday. I've been trying to stay off it and keep it propped up, but there's things that I need to do for my family. The guys are helpless when it comes to cooking!
We start to school Thursday and my foot has to be better by that time. I'm an aide at kindergarten for the first 7 days! Most of the stuff I do can be accomplished sitting down, but some stuff includes walking from place to place. Oh well, I'll just do the best I can and it might just take a little longer to get there.
Hope you all had a good summer and accomplished many good things. We had a nice one and have all supplies for school ready to go. Until next time, be safe.
I broke my little toe several years ago when I was walking down the stairs. One thing to be thankful for, as was I: you have a few more months of flip-flop/sandal weather. I was amazed when I tried to put on a sneaker nearly three months later to find it was pretty uncomfortable.
We will indeed be in Alabama, Birmingham area. Do share your email address with me (jbeckley@telkomsa.net) and if the congregation would like Dave to speak let us know :-) it would surely be good to meet you!
