I'm pleased to announce... 10-10-08 02:47pm EST
...that there's only one day left of the Phonathon.

...that I got an A in STII.

...that we managed to stumble into some Rays tickets and are going to the ALCS Game 1 tonight.

...that DeWard Publishing Company's latest release, Churches of the New Testament, by Ethan R. Longhenry is now available for preorder—$13.00 and free shipping to get your copy ordered today. As in get to it. Five minutes ago.

And please remember: this is a preorder. This means that the book is not yet available (but will be soon). Your copy will not be arriving in the next few days or even in the next week. Think late October/early November.
kerriganI'm fully jealous of your ticket acquisition.
serenaI'm disappointed no one ever called us for the phone-a-thon :(
pookyWe got a call...we should've directed them to you
serenaThat's ok. We've already given our yearly quota to adopt-a-student.
franky_gThis sounds like the Boswell deal.
hooseI think it's time to update the DeWard website... the main image still references preordering "Beneath the Cross" by July 15th. Not very professional. :-)

returning to a dorm room debate from a decade or so ago... 10-05-08 11:15pm EST
Top or Maruchan?
thepoeticmadmanMaruchan, all the way.
tu_madrewait...what?
71lespaulcustomNo Raman whatsoever.
pookyMaruchan
madtomkiddIf they could make the flavor packs without MSG, I'd take anyone that would make that concession.

Presumably, it all tastes like cardboard without the MSG, so, I'm currently with him
goonieTop (back in the day), Now - I'm with him too.
abjbIck. I swore those off after my college days. However, when my wife was out of town a few weeks ago, I actually ate a couple of packets... and remembered why I swore them off.
mtnholleris there a "C" for none of the above?
isabeau_danjouhehehehehe....
brukeRamen noodles were one of those things where you think it's a great idea... until you're eating them.
davetop, only going off the knowledge i had of them years ago. definitely haven't eaten ramen in quite a while.
yoi will use the noodles occasionally, and throw the flavor packet away.
wardYeah, just for the record, I haven't had them since before the turn of the millennium. But living on an FC salary, it's tempting sometimes! Top was my choice back then, as well. It seems to me, however, that Kennon was a Maruchan man.
marlaI've always preferred Maruchan OR any kind that had "chili" in the flavor name.
iammountainfolkMaruchan, but only because of availability
theeditordo you have a wireless mic?

getting there 10-02-08 11:52am EST
STII – One week from being over
Phonathon – Two-thirds done (five nights to go)
REL 4933 – Mid-terms next week
MAR – Three more classes

I might make it out of all this alive, after all.
thepoeticmadmanNah
ericwallace"a-maize-ing" -- you're going to milk that for all it's worth...
brukeI don't think you can milk corn.
jlmanagerThe ethanol folks are milking it for all it's worth...
wardAnd sadly, it's not worth that much.

I don't know why people think that I have a corny sense of humor. Seriously, people. It's not corny. It's a-maize-ing.
wardTake that, naysayers!
jlmanagerI'll take it with a grain of salt.
serenaI think I'm gonna puke.
theeditorugh
diminished_seventhReporting for pun duty, Kernel.
iamyourfatherOn the groan meter, that gets 8.5 out of 10.
iamyourfatherAt least. That one isn't any better.
pookygroooooaaan
brukeAw, that's why I married you
jdiemanthat was awesome. I guess.
jadycNo, I think Matt's was better. It filled a much needed hole in the pun literature.
thepoeticmadman...
carpecollumI feel sorry for marble. People so often take it for granite.
mtnhollerI hate how people who tell a corny joke are booed in disgrace........I mean, it really is a shame :)
franky_gI'm taking you off my friends list.
franky_gI signed up for phanathon on Monday but now I'm kind of scared of going anywhere near you.
justcallmejoesome chick called me from phonathon. ha!
goonieBased on our ruberic from college, I give this one a 9.
kt80I already heard that one on Good Eats.
friedajAmazingly Corny?
jollyhollydaychuckles
buddabignbaldIn particular, I like how you commented first on your own post more than I like your puns. You seem to do that regularly. It's as if you can't stand to wait for someone else to reply before you.

I think the Phonathon might be frying my brain... 09-28-08 10:01pm EST
- The first sentence in my review of Four Views on Hell, which I'm about to turn in for STII:

"Among all the doctrines of Christian Theology, few are as hotly debated as the doctrine of hell—although the fire with which some debate is admittedly metaphorical or purgatorial."

- One of the daily-reading quiz questions from my most recent Genesis seminar class:

What prevented Abraham from killing Isaac?
A. He realized on his own that God was just testing his faith, learned the lesson God wanted to teach him, and they went home
B. Isaac broke free from the ropes and subdued him
C. Just before he struck the death blow, Abraham slipped on a loose rock, tumbled down the mountainside and landed with the knife ultimately lodging itself in his own back. But he still wasn’t dead. He slowly climbed back up the mountain to finish off his son who still lay helpless on the altar. At the last moment, a ram jumped from the bushes and knocked him back off the cliff, where he fell to his death on the jagged rocks below.
D. The Angel of the Lord stopped him
serena^ Is that a trick question??
coulterthis might be why some questioned your legitimacy as a professor, however, I found it funny & am sure you had some intellectual discussion in class that we are all missing out on.
coulterIn fact, I'm anxiously awaiting your explanation of how 'A' is the right answer.
hooseI'm going to go with D. And that is quite a sentence up there. I'd have to mark that as "awkward".
mtnholleris "C" what you would categorize as a "necessary inference"?
franky_gI would argue that C is to long to be a real question, especially for multiple choice.
jlmanagerLOL
jlmanagerI don't know...isn't the long detailed answer usually the right one?
nickomundoI believe I could have gotten that question right without doing the reading.
wardThat was basically the problem I faced in giving a quiz on Genesis 22. Everything fit into that same category. So, I decided to write some 'fun' throwaway answers. Needless to say, I got a little carried away on that one.
madtomkiddC. made me think you were going to keep rolling with something along the lines of "and he was nearly mortally wounded, but..." and then the chorus would burst into song (^_^)
pookyThe first sentence in your review of Hell made me laugh out loud.
iamyourfather"C" sounds like something Homer would do in a "Simpsons" episode.
