not the end of the world yet 11-05-08 01:34pm EST
All this doom and gloom I'm seeing from Christians about the election last night has prompted me to end my long hiatus.

First, I'm shocked that just now everyone is scared about the government and what will happen. Where was the outrage when the Bush administration was shredding the Constitution, passing outrageous laws such as the Patriot Act, which I fear one day will be used to call even Christians "terrorists" for speaking out against such things as homosexuality, starting preemptive wars against other countries that have done nothing against us, killing countless thousands of innocent civilians, torturing captured soldiers, the list goes on.

Is Obama a step in the right direction himself, probably not. However, I think it's a necessary step if this country is ever going to get back on the right track for several reasons.

First, the Republicans absolutely deserved the landslide defeat they received last night after the travesty of the past 8 years and hopefully this will wake the GOP up and cause them to go back to their true conservative roots of humble foreign policy and smaller government. Second, I believe all the Christians who didn't say a word while Bush and his administration committed crime after crime will have a fit if a Democratic president tries the same tactics. I can imagine the outrage at an act such as the Patriot Act if a Democrat endorsed the idea because the law is outrageous.

Sadly, we sat by and let atrocities happen. I pray we don't let this happen during an Obama presidency and that the GOP nominates a true conservative in 2012, not another terrible candidate like Mr bomb bomb Iran McCain. Should this happen, we'll look back on 2008 as a turning point not for disaster like so many here fear, but as a turning point to going back to our Constitution and the ideals that our founding fathers imagined when they formed this great country.

On another note, look back at the late 70's. We had recently had a criminal Republican in office (Nixon). Jimmy Carter came in and while he wasn't a terrible person morally I don't think, he was terrible from an economic standpoint. In 1980 a true conservative came in Reagan and the country turned back around. It's happened before and let's hope it happens again in 2012!
meditationisGood thoughts. Thank you for breaking your silence. Hope Colorado is treating you well. :-)
