Alrighty, if nothing else has been worthy of spawning an update yesterday surely was.
Amber and I made plans to check out Keeneland on it's last day this season. Neither of us had been and we both had an itch to see what the hype was about.
It was a gorgeous day, just as we have been getting a lot of lately. Now if only it'll stay like this until fall.
So we arrived, even though I was tempted to deviate from our road and find out what this "Waveland" place is..if anyone knows, I'm still curious. We had the privilege to park in nearly the furthest spot. Giving us the opportunity to scope out the outskirts of this famous location. Next time I'll remember my truck, haha, would be a cool place to tailgate.
So as very confused as I was as to where to go and what to do they made it pretty easy to navigate. We only found three alternate exits before finding the track. Oh, btw, if you ever go and someone is handing out free newspaper looking things..take one..trust me.
K, so first off the place was packed. But we suspected as much cuz it was beautiful and it was the last day. One of the first things noticed was this little grassy area that was fenced off with a short fence and it contained this fancy looking sidewalk. The only entrances were on either end of this sidewalk..and there were guards on both sides. So we didn't know what this patch of unwalkable ground was..and I felt like it would be more dangerous stepping over that fence than if I were to climb the fence at Buckingham Palace.
Then we entered a building. We saw all sorts of people making bets, buying food, wearing funny hats, etc. I definitely didn't understand what was up on any of the TVs..and I'm pretty sure I still don't..they must be tools for all the folks that take that place way too seriously.
Then there was a sign in front of a staircase going up that said "mezzanine". Which I guess just means "same as the first floor..but up a level". The biggest different was that it had balconies with a great view.
So after a complete exploration of the mezzanine and its subfloor we exited out the opposite side in which we entered and ta da..the track. It was much larger than I imagined it being, but a lot of new things are.
Shortly after the races began. Those things were fast for only being 1 horse power. They didn't make it easy knowing the names of the horses previous to the few minutes before a race..so we just picked them as we saw them. And I just hoped that mine would beat hers. So Jeremy is not a betting man..and that's a really good thing because I would of lost it all. All but one of my horses came in last or close to. On the other hand, Amber would have walked out with a nice bit of cash cuz all of her's came in first or second.
So for most of the time, which flew by too fast, we hung out at our spot along the fence of the track. We didn't get to pet any of the horses like a bunch of the other people along the fence..mostly cuz Amber scared them. But it was probably for the best. After seeing a horse walk by with gold glitter all over its butt I'm not so sure I wanted to touch one.
Other highlights:
=The horn/bugle/trumpet dude and his um.."awesome" attire and cushy job.
-A horse getting spooked and ramming into the rail sending the jockey flying.
-Only being attacked by two bugs and only falling once.
-Along with the falling ^ I only embarrassed her a handful of times.
-A rebellious ice cube jumping out and attacking Amber.
-Seeing a couple of co-workers outside of work and it not being awkward.
After the adventure of being in the sun and feeling like we had been walking around an amusement park all day we went out for some Cheddars..good choice. Then just came back and hung out at the house. So fun times, I recommend everyone give that place a look. Ofcourse it won't be going again until the fall, so I guess check it out then. Wow this was a long one, but it was a long day. An awesome one. Catch y'all later.
Thank you!
