I Know the LORD

I've had some of the most challenging days of what I'd call walking on the water in my life. But, because He is so faithful, I feel able to trust like never before. What a blessing it is to know the LORD and to even be able to call on His name. I am a blessed man.

"Therefore I will teach them—
this time I will teach them
my power and might.
Then they will know
that my name is the LORD."

Jeremiah 16:22 NIV

Search and Destroy?

"When it comes to spiritual warfare, much of the church behaves as if it is on a search-and-destroy mission. We get all worked up emotionally and try to fight Satan, but he has been defeated. It is now our job to advance in the victory Christ has already won." Pastor Joel C. Hunter, Inner State 80 (Mile 6: Warning! Danger Ahead)

Lisa's Post

Lisa just put up a very powerful post entitled At What Cost?. It's a challenging one about our particular story, but necessary given the number of these situations we see regularly.
  • serena
That is a powerful perspective. I long for the day when we will not just be forgiven, but truly free from all the bondage of sin. To God be the glory!!

I'm glad I read this. I reference this today while speaking with Lisa. She is haunted by giving up a child for adoption while she was an addict. Those scars cut deeper when we see healthy relationships in Christ. Thank you for these thoughts since I borrowed them today :)

God's Will

Do you ask for God's will in your everyday situations? How do you know it is His will?

"We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall." -Proverbs 16:33

  • dcroush
I do. Whatever happens, regardless of what I might have wanted, is His will. I think it's hard for us to know what His will might be in relation to something we might be praying for, but the key is having the attitude that Christ had as he prayed "Nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done." (John 17)
    by dcroush at 09/09/09 10:09AM
  • serena
Sometimes I may ask God for his will to be done but I am really more interested in my own will being done. When I really shed my ways for his I know that it is him working when my confusion is lifted. For instance, in any given drama of the day I am usually very indecisive and full of doubt. But "God is not a God of confusion but of peace." When my doubts and confusion become transformed into peace I know that God is having his way in my life.

    I love I John 5:14-15

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

    Couple that with Matthew 7:7-11.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

If you know His will, you will not ask for anything outside of his will and if you only ask for things that are according to His will, they are yours.

Heed the advice of Eph. 5:17 where Paul says, "So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is."

Church is...

Church is not a social club. It's not a place. It's the body of Christ. It's the collective of God's army here on earth who have awakened to the battle and become His ministers of reconciliation. Are you in the battle?

To be honest, it's not easy for me to get involved in other peoples business. We want to stay in our own little corner and man our own tents and usually end up watching the destruction around us wondering what happened? Or I wish I could have helped.

I was thinking about the battle the other day. It takes good listening to our Commander to know when to engage the battle, when to retreat and restratigize, when to attack and when to stand down and let others fight for us. All this is a part of the battle. There are times we need to stand back and regroup for our own sakes and times we need to rebuke satan. Take courage, we are fighting together.

Well said. Part of being in the battle includes being wounded and needing to recoup and heal. It doesn't mean we stop fighting. We may just have to sit in the hospital and encourage others who are down. When we're done healing, we jump back in and fight as the LORD leads. Again, that was well said.
