cleansing

so when i moved here, i needed to find something that would keep me moving. because for the previous 18 months, i really didn't get much in the way of physical exercise at all.

so, there was tomato:

Photobucket

i've had her about 2 1/2 weeks, i think? i've only skipped maybe 4 days of riding since i got her.
the first few days were puny excuses of bike rides, averaging maybe 2 miles.

then i got a kind of routine going around some neighborhoods and my guesstimate of the loop from looking at google maps was about 5.5/6 miles. that was going out and coming back.

today, i trekked more than 12 miles. my car is having brake work done, so while they were doing the brake work i rode my bike to downtown greenville (4.4 miles from the bike shop) and then was headed back to the shop (4.6 miles), and while i was having lunch the shop told me that my car probably wouldn't be ready until tomorrow because they have to replace a cracked hose, so i came home (2 miles). i guess that's actually right at 12 miles, not counting my detours off into a park and a few other ones.

it's nice to know i can get home after that and not pass out, and that same knowledge leaves me wanting to push myself more.
why i can't think the same way when it comes to running, i have no idea. but i love biking. even if the traffic is a bit daunting at times, as are the local hilly areas (this place is like an asphalt kiddie coaster!)

good times. now to shower and yoga and watch some TED.

:)

    i want a bike.
i tried to buy one but it sucked.
every time i tried to ride it something would fall off and i would hurt myself.
and then some loser cut my porch screen and stole it.
it's kinda funny because it looked really new and shiny but it didn't work at all.
i hope he hurt himself trying to ride it.
    the end.

Oh girl! I wish you'd been about biking here. I LOOOOVE biking. Used to go 12-15 miles when I'd go out. I have a trek that I love. Maybe someday when you visit, eh?

Don't know you... just stumbled in here and your post intrigued me. My thought about biking vs. running is that running is a lot of work without any perceptible reward. When you're on a bike, at least you can feel the wind.
