ive decided i dont like politicians

they are really good at disappointing. the most recent disappointment for me is Abraham Lincoln.

Dare i say it... WORST PRESIDENT EVER

here my beef.

We started out as the united states of america. Lincoln's civil war fundamentally changed the federalist system to being a single state nation with districts.
the reason the constitution had a president was for wartime and to veto unconstitutional bills coming from the legislators. he was not to decide what congress should do. he was to enforce and execute what they had already declared lawful.

The south got no say in the matter of slavery even though they had the representation in congress because they refused the rights of the states. the north forced them to secession, then lincoln was elected and instead of compromising and giving states more power as was originally intended by the founders, he decided to keep as much power for himself- er i mean for the federal government.

i know i know he freed the slaves, but at what cost. There a probably a 1/2 billion other ways to resolve slavery without a war.

i was thinking he could have allowed them to continue slavery but put a tax on crops from plantations with slaves. or give any number of incentives for freeing slaves.
or make school mandatory for slaves and change laws relating to fair treatment of slaves. COMPROMISE talk and work an figure it out don't just start blasting when someone disagrees. We could have advanced the black situation right there like a hundred years but instead he decided to just free them and not address the human aspect.

and now the whole system is a complete mess because the power is so far away from where it is needed.

so to sum up i think the national govn't should make decisions required for the protection of its people's civil liberties and states should control prohibitory law and taxation. National govn't shouldn't even tax for the upkeep of a national militia, but state and civilian militia's. same system of organization underneath the president but funded by the states. because some state in the interior may only need to contribute missle defense or jet construction and maybe a reserve militia and could cost them less than the federal would take.

maybe disappointing politicians is why i just don't pay attention to politics in general?
is that a sore excuse? maybe.
but it seems to work quite well, and i'm happy with it.

I agree for the most part. I do think the federal government should have some tax dollars and that a consolidated military makes sense. For the example you gave of some interior state not needing as much or something, but an attack on the outer states would still bring the inner state in harms way, so I would be okay with a joint security system and payment because it's for the good of all that the borders are secure, not just for the border states, etc.

Townhall Report

We got there at 8 for a townhall meeting that started at 12. Waited and waited then at 1030 they started the security procedures of letting everyone in. and apparently not everyone who had a ticket got in. All blue tickets got in not all white tickets. i have pictures trying to show how long the line was it was huge. we thought we were far back when we got there but it formed about 4x the length of what the line was at 8am.

everyone who wasnt press, school faculty, local govn't officials, or UT diplomats was a white ticket meaning they sat on these gymnasium bleachers.
some white tickets were there at one and they still sat on the bleachers, really far away from obama. they were a little upset. and half the line didnt get in at all even though they had tickets.

meeting was supposed to start at 12 and go to 2.30. and it ended up getting underway at about 1.30 with the pledge of allegiance and star spangled banner, yet it still ended at 2.30 on the dot.
i was really ticked.
so obama spoke for about 10 minutes and took 5 questions from the audience. 1 he answered, 2 he brushed aside with tangential info.
2 he didn't really answer at all.
he talked little about health care, saying its too complicated for us to understand and then he talked about this bullet train and tried amusing us with talk about how fast it will go.

i give him an F for failure to arrive on time, failure to answer questions and failure to sound authentic.

my buddy i went with is a big obama fan. his mother as well. its weird how no matter what the debate is or what info is brought up they have invested so much faith in obama their minds simply cannot take in and compute anything that shows him in a bad light.

all in all the event was not nearly as fun as standing in line all night and all morning meeting interesting people from all different walks. talking about everything from politics and health care, to hockey and Woodstock.

I'm glad you went even if it was lame it is still an interesting experience to see the President of the United States. Even if it was Obama. It boggles my mind that he just gets a free pass for everything he does or doesn"t do.

what would you ask?

I'm going to a townhall meeting.
thats right. tomorrow morning after the state of the union, Obummer is coming to tampa to speak at a townhall meeting.
there will be questions and there will be words cleverly disguised as answers.
me and a buddy had to post up at 4 in the morning to get them. we were 5th in line.

I am going to try to get my question on, but i dont think they will take someone with a fumanchu and scraggly hair. Maybe i should get a hair cut.

anyway this is my first time actually to see a president. im pretty stoked.

now to come up with a question....

well anyway i learned that a bunch of people really love and blindly trust obama.

also there was this one reporter who was a real snob. "i think we should do anther shot just all about me this time... yeah."

and this ptsd riddled vietnam vet said, "ma'am you have a wire coming out the back of your dress." tryin to be all helpful and stuff and she was all like, "yeah i know" in a really mean tone to this guy.

im picketing channel 10.

getting up early tomorrow to get up front maybe.

I hate that people are falling for his promises last night just like they did during the election. "Well, I'm very hopeful. I feel like he addressed some of the really big issues" Yeah, he ADDRESSED them when he was campaigning too but has he DONE anything about them? Absolutely not. Arg! It's just so frustrating to see how easily manipulated such a large portion of the population is.

AVATAR

so if you dont already know its about Humans killing trees to get the unobtainium?

well these trees are pretty dang special in their own right. but still what i want to know is just how valuable is unobtainium.
i mean really many questions about it were not answered in the movie.

it could be that it is like gold, a commodity, which would make the humans in avatar total douche bags.
but lets say its a power source and a few grams of it could sustain the power humans need to live for a year or more.
is it worth it at that point? and come on blue alien people really? just let us have some. your not even using it.

anyway, movie was awesome visually but too many holes in the plot line and psychological motivation was not set up well enough to let us empathize for the humans at all. we are told the unobtainium is valuable but not why its valuable.

in most of the really good movies that star an antagonist you have at least some empathy for the motives of the bad guy, James cameron provide none for the humans.

thus as far as story goes i give avatar a 2.5/5
visually and intense action rating though i rate a 4.6/5

thank you good evening

i don't think he wanted us empathizing with the people. the only people he wanted us to empathize with were the ones who were trying to help/understand the people of Pandora anyway.
