Whilst eating "Special K, Chocolatey Delight" cereal and taking my multivitamins...
Jackson: "Daddy, are you eating cereal and candy for breakfast?"
Daddy: "No, those are vitamins. Daddy doesn't eat candy for breakfast, silly."
Jackson: "Is that chocolate in your cereal?"
Daddy: "Touché"
P.S. Vote Medina!!

I don't know if you're following the Texas Republican Gubernatorial candidates at all, but I am getting pretty excited about the rapidly-changing poll numbers. Once a long-shot candidate, now Debra Medina is closing in on Hutchison and Perry. Hutchison, in fact, is losing more and more votes because of her weak, wishy-washy campaign that is unable to gain steam. Most articles I've been reading are now predicting a run-off between Perry and Medina.
If that happens, I have faith in Texas voters. I really don't think they will re-elect a governor who has lied and deceived us all far too many times. In any case, anyone who was saying "I would vote for her if I thought she had a chance" may want to give Debra Medina another look!
Go Texas!

The crisis in Haiti is awful. The people there need help physically and financially.
But...
For several reasons, I don't believe President Obama took the right action in automatically devoting $100 million from our government to aid the problem. Read them, then let me know what you think.
1) Our government doesn't have money--it is deep in debt.
2) $100 million dollars, plus what more the president has promised, will cost the U.S. citizens money in one way or another: it will either have to be taxed from us, or printed, which increases inflation, which devalues the money that we already possess (costs us value).
3) Based on #4: As for individuals who will lose money or the value of their money, they will have less purchasing power. For businesses, they will have less operating and hiring potential.
4) #3 perpetuates the depression that we are in the middle of. Economy worsens because people don't have and can't spend money and businesses can't give raises or hire or maintain current employment.
5) Perpetuating a depression makes the American people less able to do one thing that they are great at: give. Automatically, many private organizations and individuals set up ways to donate and give, and THAT is how this whole thing should have been done- out of generosity. The president hasn't even made us give out of obligation. He has stolen the money from us without asking, and now we have less to give--and not just to Haiti, but to any important goal.
Alright- what do you think?
--Let me reiterate: I do think we should help ANYONE who is in need- including the Haitians. The way I think it should be done is through willing, private citizens and organizations who set up ways to donate (as they have), and for each citizen/organization to be free to choose the amount. I think we would be greatly surprised at the goodness of people if we were free to keep and give the money that we made from our labor.

I took a 3-day course this week: Emergency Vehicle Operator Course. It was sweet. We spent most of our time driving one of these around:

We drove it through a pavement obstacle course (around & through some cones) and took it mudding. It was swwweet.
I even got a sweet lookin certificate out of the deal, thanks to my
former co-worker. You'll be missed!
