Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation". He withdrew about a stone´s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
(Luke 22:39-42)
Thank God that Jesus was willing to take the "bitter drink"! Given that today we can be freed from sin. We have a new life and a relationship with the Father! Jesus prayed for by him were made by the will of the Father, so we can have communion with the Father. Due to the cross that we can pray. We see the humble submission the cross of Christ before we can learn how to pray.
Our Savior lived a sinless life, carried our sins and was nailed to the cross. Without the cross there would always be a barrier between God the Father, and humanity: the barrier of sin. But as far as the barrier was destroyed, we can approach God with confidence, knowing that we are heard and answered our prayers through the blood of his Son. Every time we bow in front of the Father, we must remember why we pray and thank God for the incredible opportunity we have to talk to him because of his grace.
The cross not only gives us the opportunity to pray, but also shows the attitude we should have in prayer. Before Jesus was crucified, was crucial to remember, through prayer, his mission on earth. It was not an easy task, by contrast, was a mission that caused him much pain and agony. Would have been much easier if the father would have taken no such "bitter drink" so they do not have to suffer. However, when Jesus knelt before the Father, was able to resolve their own questions and have the correct perspective of their suffering. The Father's will was to save all sinners, and if that meant that Jesus had to go to the cross, he was willing to do so.
See also the example of Jesus to ask others to pray with him and for him. Jesus took his disciples with him and asked them to pray. Unfortunately, the disciples of Jesus failed to stay asleep. Jesus warned that "should remain awake and pray," but also acknowledged its human limitations: "You are good, but they are weak" (Mark 14:38). Knew how important it was for the disciples who were to receive forces and God. After Jesus prayed could face a lawsuit false, the teasing and beatings and the crucifixion itself, so strongly had prayed enough, they fled in fear and despair. They were powerless to sustain the convictions that had so strongly preached hours before
When kneeling at the foot of the cross, we can appreciate the privilege we have to pray to God. Yes, as disciples, remember this "simple" made each time we started to pray, How can surround God in a spirit of complaint, or walk and entertain us in our prayers when we realize that prayer is a privilege we have and that cost the death of Jesus on the cross? We see prayer as an obligatory task?
Remember that Jesus had to suffer so that we could pray, and you feel called to think about it in greater depth. Are always grateful for the privilege of prayer, the light we receive through prayer and the purpose that when we pray.
( I hope you understand my English :) ).
