This tenth month of the year has brought lots of exciting events.
TALL STACKS - A few weeks ago was the Tall Stacks festival here in Cincinnati. Every few years, a bunch of cool river showboats park themselves on the Ohio River for a few days, and tons of people go to the festival to listen to different bands and tour the boats. This year, I got to ride one of the boats! The Engineering team hosted approximately 1,000 of their employees on the General Jackson, and Stephen and I were invited to enjoy a dinner and show cruise. The show featured the talented Peking Acrobats. This time, I didn’t have to go to China….they came to me! The best part was, it was all free.
THE SIMS - Last week, the Sims were in town to watch a show at Bogarts and graced Cincinnati with their presence. Even though Amy was “mad” at me, we still managed to have a good time with Skyline Chili and its burritos.
PUMPKIN CARVING – This annual event has become a super fun tradition. First, a stop at McGlasson’s farms in Kentucky to pick up pumpkins, cider and caramel apples, followed by the pumpkin carving session at the Meyer’s (All-American family!). Perhaps the best part is getting the kids (ages 2-4) together for a picture. It was tough to get a decent shot with Emma focused on taking off her necklace, Evie trying to climb the door, Parker in a daze and Tegan just staring and saying “cheese.” I guess we should just cherish this time while it lasts LOL
FALL TELEVISION – My TiVo has been working hard lately, with the emergence of new shows such as Heroes and Studio 60, as well as my new love for The Office. Of course, it is still recording the standard CW (formerly the WB) shows – Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars and One Tree Hill. The one show that has me baffled is Deal or No Deal. I say this because I think the concept is ridiculous and requires absolutely no thought whatsoever, but every time I come across it, I can’t get myself to turn it off! Help!
RED RIVER GORGEous– Today, SZ,
LT and I roadtripped it down to KY to hike up to the Natural Bridge and drive through the Gorge. It was such a beautiful day with the sun shining and trees showing off their autumn colors. Highlights included getting a blingin’ heart ring from a Busken Sweetest Day cupcake, Stephen’s comment that The Original Trail to the Natural Bridge is what ‘Nam must have looked like, Lindsay’s glamour shot at the top of Laurel Ridge Trail and the dangerous hike down Needle Stairway trail. I told them we should have gone down Lover’s Leap!!!
The beauty of the Gorge just made me think about how heaven will be even more glorious than this pretty place on earth. And if we all stay faithful and continue to put Him first, we can all get there. How amazing is that?
