How Much is Albert Haynes"worth"?
Before you read any further, no, this is not a post on how much I think Albert Haynesworth is worth money-wise. What I'm talking about is a lot more deep.... So here we go.
On Friday, the 20th (my brother's birthday). I get an email at about noon, saying that Albert Haynesworth will be hosting a shoe drive on Tuesday the 24th and will be signing autographs for each pair of shoes donated.... And I thought,"How cool would that be, to meet Albert Haynesworth and get his autograph and everything." Keeping that thought in mind, hours past and I eventually went to the Cookeville Bible Study, which was very excellent. I came home, stopping by a Kroger's to do a little prank on my favorite Higgy Baby. I went to sleep and the next day, the thought came to mind... "Hey..... we have some shoes that need getting rid of.... we could go over there and meet Haynesworth and give the shoes to a good cause!(SolesforSouls)" Long story short, I begged my mom for the better part of 3 days and she finally budged Monday and so yesterday (I'm saying this at 1 AM) we went to see Haynesworth.
I had a lot of mixed emotions going to see Haynesworth... Some excitement, some anxiousness,etc.... I was trying to figure out what to say, what not to say.. and my mind was jumbled. Sure, I knew Haynesworth was just a man. But this was my first time meeting someone of such importance.
We finally got there, and we got there at the right time... There was no line for Haynesworth, because they were just winding down. I let my family go first, for reasons above. And I saw his smiling face look down at my 2 little sisters, and he gently said "What's your name?". Sarah, the eldest of the two, barely got her name out, and then Hannah couldn't even speak.... It was one of those priceless moments. A few moments passed as he signed my sisters' and brother's footballs that we had just bought. And it came my turn. I promptly gave him my football, and he complemented just how stylish it was (picture can be seen below). Then he signed my mom's, and then we got to take a picture with Albert. I ended up right next to him, and he was humongous. But behind that huge 6'6 320 pound frame, there was a nice guy.
On the ride home, I got to thinking..... How many people get out there and do that type of thing? How many people sit inside a building for 3 hours, signing autographs for charity? It doesn't seem like many anymore. What with the Pacman Joneses and the Michael Vicks of the NFL. People tend to think there's nothing good that comes from it. But it's those, like Albert that do things for their community that put a smile on my face. And that's what makes watching these guys worthwhile.... Knowing that they don't just do everything for money, they do it for enjoyment, for a better community, and hopefully a better tomorrow. With people like Haynesworth out there, it gives you some hope on humanity. Well, I'm done ranting for the night... Enjoy your middle of the night.

An interesting take, little bro. Many NFL stars don't realize how many people look to them for leadership. Fortunately, some of them do get it. Albert hasn't been perfect, but he has been one of the few players to turn it around after a major meltdown incident. This year especially, he's done a lot of charity work and touring in our area. I think he will continue to do great things on and off the field! -
Nice football. To be able to meet an awesome athlete like that - I envy you :P. Except I'd be looking for Steve Nash -
That was pretty fun, wasn't it? :) -
Is it bad that I had no clue who Albert Haynesworth is? -
Sounds like a great outing for a football-crazy guy like yourself! Glad you wore your Mom down and were able to meet him! :-) -
