New Hospital Visitation Rules for the Flu Season

Women and Infants Hospital has made stricter visitation rules starting this past Monday for the flu season. It's going to take a little fun out of things, but it's for the best, I'm sure.

Here's the rundown: (found at http://www.womenandinfants.org/body.cfm?id=89&action=detail&ref=322 )

Press Releases
Women & Infants Hospital Changes Visitation Policies During Flu Season
10/23/09
Pregnant women, new mothers, newborns and women being treated for cancer are particularly vulnerable to influenza – both seasonal flu and H1N1 (swine flu). To help protect patients, Women & Infants Hospital is making changes to some of the hospital’s visitation policies, effective Monday, October 26, 2009.

Changes include:

• Hours of visitation will be restricted from 3 pm to 8 pm, with additional limitations outlined here.

• Only two visitors at a time will be allowed in the patient room.

• Family and friends with a fever, cough or cold symptoms will not be allowed to visit patients in the hospital.

• For patients with confirmed or suspected H1N1 flu, visitors will be limited to the significant other and grandparents/support person – all of whom must wear a mask while in the room. No one under the age of 18 should visit unless cleared through the hospital’s Infection Control staff.

• School age children are at high risk of contracting and spreading the H1N1 virus. Therefore, children under the age of 18 will not be allowed to visit patients in the hospital. The only exception will be for children of the patient or siblings of the newborn provided they pass a brief medical screening that will be given at the hospital prior to visiting the patient room.

• For families of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients, only the mother and banded significant other will be allowed to visit in the NICU 24 hours a day. In addition to the parents, visitors are limited to two at a time, and all will receive a brief medical screening prior to visiting in the NICU. Siblings of the baby may only visit the NICU by appointment and must be screened before entering the NICU.

Visitation screenings will take place in the Main Lobby of the hospital, behind the reception desk.

“Keeping our patients healthy and safe is our top priority,” explained Paula Gillette, RN, MSN, senior vice president of Patient Care Services at Women & Infants. “We appreciate the cooperation and support of our patients and their visitors.”

Hi, Jody! It's Aunt Jeanne - I FINALLY got a Pleonast account. It will take me a while to learn everything & to navigate. Well, CONGRATULATIONS on your healthy, precious little girl! I was SO hoping you would have a girl, and of course I LOVE the name! I'm so pleased that Grandma has a great-grandchild named after her. I'm thankful you had an easier delivery this time. Charlotte didn't waste any time getting here, did she? I've seen some pictures that were posted on Facebook, & she's beautiful. Sean is ADORABLE! How exciting for him to have a baby sister!
    by leaflady at 11/03/09 9:16PM

Habbir Yeeeew!

That's how Sean says "Happy Birthday to you". :) It's so hard to believe it has been two years already. Two years ago at this time I think I was finally falling asleep for the first time after Sean was born at 3:26 am. I was so wound up from the whole experience for one thing, but also I didn't want to miss anything! A baby only has it's first hours once! And to think we'll hopefully be doing it all again with in the next few days (I hope)!

Not much has changed in the last year with Sean's loves. He still loves balls and trucks. But now he can name the different kinds of balls, and he knows bulldozer, dump truck, bucket loader, road roller, fire truck, tractor, pickup truck, log truck, car carrier, cement truck, grader, crane, garbage/trash truck, and maybe something I'm not thinking of. He can count to 20 with some help. We're still working on the alphabet, but he can say a few random runs on his own.

Sean loves helping Mama and Daddy. I think he likes helping more than playing. He likes to help me cook, vacuum, empty the dishwasher, fold laundry, and pick up toys. He likes to help Daddy stack wood, start the fire (he carries the kindling), fix cars, clean up the garage, and weed the garden.

We had a very rough spot in his behavior a while back, but we got through it, and he says polite phrases more often now like "please", "thank you vurry, vurry much", and "escuse me" when he's trying to get by somebody. And he's been a lot more affectionate. We're still working on sharing, pushing, and grabbing though!

Well, I don't want to go on and on like those printed holiday letters you get from your family telling you how wonderful they are.... ;) I love my little guy, and I'm pround of him.

Sean and I would also like to say Happy Birthday to Sean's two birthday buddies, Jack and Anaja! Happy Birthday, guys!!!

Love to all,
Jody
  • enyek
Awwww, Sean, happy birthday again! I love that he loves helping you two! It's just so neat that God put that desire to get a job done into little guys too. I hope you have a wonderful celebration! And we will be thinking of you - praying for you over the next few days! We love you!

Update

Ok, so I made a huge list of things to do. Did you ever feel better just from making the list? Well, I feel much more organized now. Whew!

Business trip packing - done
Laundry - done (for now, obviously)
Closet plans - done (that was a big one)
Pedicure - done (yay! It looks really good!)
Sean's cold - done (though mischievousness still remains ;))
Guest room - done except for vacuuming

Chris is helping a lot, and so is Marcie! Also, Mom is coming over on Wednesday. Hooray! Things are looking up!

I just asked Sean if he would like his drink. He started whining, which clearly means no, but then he stopped and said, "No... dayn-goooo." Yay! He's been a lot sweeter recently.

Well, I ought to get back to "get it done" mode!

Love to all,
Jody

For those of you on SWAGBUCKS, be watching out for lots of Swag Codes today. TSG is doing Swag Hunts at the top of every hour. The next one (actually at 4:30 EST due to a hardware problem) will be worth 50 SB and is only available to the first 5 people who find it!!!

So happy that you are feeling stress being relieved! Sean is going to be such a great big brother, I cannot wait to see it.

Apparently today Meredith wasn't too happy about going down for a nap so while we were eating lunch she came and told Chris that she went into the other room and made frustrated noises/movements and that was naughty and she was sorry!

Ggrrrr!

So, my to do list in no particular order includes - pack for Chris's business trip, do laundry for packing --, pack hospital bag for me/ Grandma and Grandpa's house overnight bag for Sean, print readable map of Woonsocket for guests, come up with closet plans for bedroom, get house ready for hosting guest preacher, plan time for pedi, prepare for all the October bd's, go over a birth plan, write up triage information sheet so they don't have to ask me all the questions while I'm in transition like last time, and attend to my over-tired, runny-nosed, mischievous toddler. Oh, and what's for supper? Hmm.

The most important things are not the most urgent and vice versa. Baah! Where do I start??

Ok, that's all!

Love to all,
Jody

oh and check with your midwife about triage because I didn't have to do it bc I was going in to the ABC

Does Sean have an idea of what's to happen in the near future?
    by mel_ody at 10/07/09 9:34PM

Happy First "Day" of Fall!

We thought Fall started yesterday, but I guess it officially begins this evening at 5:18. We had our first fire in the woodstove to celebrate. Chris loves cool weather, so Fall is a big deal to him. I like early Fall with the pretty colors. And for a few weeks it's fun to wear cozy sweaters, drink hot tea, coffee, or hot chocolate sitting by the wood stove. By December it's all over for me. Actually, if it weren't for Thanksgiving, I'd be all done in November. After that it's just pervasive coldness until May or June. I'm working myself into a depression. New topic.....

We're having a great time with Dale and Selma here. And we're expecting Lee and Marcie next week if all goes well. It will be nice to be together again.

Baby CJ is coming soon! Lots of people are guessing it's a girl. We shall see! Several have said they don't think I'm going all the way to the due date. I wouldn't mind the baby coming a little early. It's getting quite difficult to sleep! But I don't want the baby too early! You can stay in there, CJ, in that little cozy place and get nice and developed. :)

Speaking of winter.... (:)) Barring any problems between now and then, we are planning to have the NYE party here. There are many details yet to be worked out, but I do have a gingerbread idea that I think will be fun! So as soon as I get a chance, I'm going to try to print up some information sheets to hand out to everyone so there's plenty of time to make your plans!! Here's the basic idea: It's a bit of a stretch, but it's fun.... :) This coming year is 2010. 10 is half of 20. So make HALF of a gingerbread house. In other words, you will be able to see inside. Are the wheels in your head turning yet?? More details to come....... Oh, btw, we're also planning to have a suggestion box for future gingerbread theme ideas.

Well, that's all for now!

Love to all,
Jody
  • comade
I hope baby CJ holds out until after the 23rd so you can come to Theo's first birthday party. Am I selfish or what? If you cannot make it then we are officially done trying to go to eachother's kid's birthday parties, lol!!!!!!

We are so excited for you to be having another one soon though =)
