Stop. Drop. Play!
There is a daycare center right next to my apartment. Their playground faces my back door and every day I can see and hear them play. Currently, they are practicing a fire drill. I understand the importance of this drill however, I can't help but chuckle. To get to their safe spot they must go though a gate that is locked with a combination lock. The gate is useful for separating the two play areas and keeping little ones from running off. The lock however, is not useful in saving anyone from a fire. In the mist of children cry, yelling, and running around I hear several workers yelling, "what's the code, what's the code." Meanwhile a group of girls, my size, are attempting to carry out a crib with a sleeping babies inside. Once they finally get the gate open and all the kids safely to the other side of the playground one little girl decides its time to play and bolts for the slide. A few seconds later I hear " GET OVER HERE NOW!" I am glad this was just a drill.

I was picking A up from school the other day and they were having a fire drill. And I hear one of the teachers talking..This is a fire drill and not a ___________ drill, right? Can't remember which one she was talking about...Anyway, I was really impressed at how well all the kindergartners did. None of them went running to their parents car. -
we have lock down drills and tornado drills in addition to fire
