I love Laura...

...And though wholly undeserving of this privilege, I'll be allowed to love her for as many days as He grants the two of us in this life! I am simultaneously honored, humbled, thankful, and amazed.

God is gracious.

Laura is beautiful.

I am happy.

When my children were smaller I would wrap my arms around them and give them a great big bear hug until they'd wiggle away then I'd call to them and say, "You come back here cause I'm not finished hugging you!"
I often find myself wondering what person in this life will love my precious children with the same ferociousness as their father and I love them even when they're not being that lovable.
With this question heavy on my mind I've forfeited the sweetness of rest on many a night over the years.

I must trust in God's wisdom for my children and believe that one day he will send each of them someone special to love. This is what I cling to as a mother because I know that with the passing of time my arms will weaken and the bear hug that I long to give will be gone.
Your engagement to Miss Laura makes me happy and the words that you've written here prove to me that God knows what is best for everyone.
Looking forward to seeing you in May!

Fishing

Enjoyed catching a few trout this morning, but none were as satisfying as when I later, after much perseverance and concentration, and the with added pressure of my eggs and milk sitting out in the sun, snagged my keys from the inside of my locked pickup in the Sam's Club parking lot. Fortunately, one of my ext-cab's vent-windows doesn't latch. Little "Super Duper", you served me well today.

"Super Duper" Lure

If you want me to be highly impressed, tell me that you've never locked your keys in your car. If that's not you, then when, where, and how'd you retrieve the keys?
  • raifhaus
    Nicely themed post!
SURELY I've locked my keys in the car. But can't remember.
Our climate is not warm enough for grapefruit or avocado to give. We live in carrot/potato/cabbage/apple country. There are a few decent looking eucalyptus trees around the city. They get tall, and quickly!

There: I have something with which to impress you. I have never locked my keys in the car. Although she once locked her keys in my car after she drove it.

I have never locked my baby in the car, but I have locked my keys... along with my spare emergency-if-I-ever-locked-my-keys-in-the-car key. Had to call Karry and explain that one. What? You locked your keys in the car???? Where is your spare key? What? You locked TWO keys in the car???? HOW in the world did you do THAT?? (Keys fell out of my pocket as I was getting out of the car.)
Then there was the time that Karry locked my keys in the car by accidently hitting the lock button on the remote... then left for worship early for business mtg... and I could not drive to worship until he came. (Remote privileges were taken away until he could control his remote fingers... he also closed and open doors unknowingly... on children and otherwise....)
And there were a few other times..... but no one was ever killed or maimed.

I've bent the corner of my seat and used an umbrella to snag my keys, called the fire dpt., used a yard stick, finally got a Slim Jim and learned how to use it :) I also had a security guard at Johns Hopkins take me to a lock smith to get a key made cause I broke mine off in the door. I think that covers them all.

I've done it three times. Twice on jobs. The work was the distraction. Once, a long time ago in a church parking lot and a woman made me do it (very sweet and attractive).

My favorite story is about someone else (of course). My Sister-in-law and husband went to a theme park in KY before married. While walking back to his car in a monster parking lot he realized he did not have his keys. He assumed he either locked them in the car or lost them in the park. Wrong. When he and family got to the car they found the keys in the ignition, the doors unlocked, and the motor still running. It had been running since their early morning arrival. Talk about being distracted.

  • snickers63
^^We all know someone else who did that.... (with an gas tank on empty and the car doors open, so in theory this does not count as locking one's keys in the car) at Space center in Huntsville - were you there when that happened Nathan?? And the engine was still running hours later. And still on empty.

I have locked my keys in the car, along with my almost 3 year old Emma at the time. In the HEB parking lot. I had put the groceries and Emma away in the car; had also flung my purse on the passenger seat (which also contained my phone, btw!), closed the van door, went around to put Haley in to find that the van had locked itself. (Some safety feature! LOL) Emma didn't know how to get out of her carseat, so she couldn't unlock the doors for me. I finally found a nice old man who worked at HEB to let me borrow his cell phone, from which I frantically called my husband, and Kia Roadside Assistance. They scheduled to send someone to unlock the van, but Sam got there first after having a co-worker take him home to pick up the extra set of keys. I was a little distraught, to say the least. At least it wasn't 100 degrees outside.

I want to hear the Huntsville story!!!
You know the second time I locked my key and the spare key and my cell phone in the car. The first time I'd only been driving a year (still hadn't gotten my license yet) and Mom and I were getting out of a dry car into a POURING rain for a tour around a park. Mom asked me if I had the keys, I told her that of course -- I would never lock the keys in the car... and then I immediately shut the locked door. And just before it clicked, I noticed the keys... sitting on the driver's seat. Oops. Needless to say, Mom wasn't particularly thrilled.

^We all drove down to meet others at Space Center. Papa was thinking he was going to run out of gas, but waited to get some anyway. Got to space center and he jumped out of the car to greet the grandchildren, fortunately putting it in park first, but forgetting to turn off the engine and close the door. In the excitement, he went on in the sc and when we went to leave, started looking for his keys. Realized he must have left them in the car. Walked out to the car, wondering how he was going to get them out. Got to the car - door was open AND engine still running... on fumes. Guess people who saw it must have thought that the owner was right there - who would leave their engine running AND the doors open???? An absent minded professor, that's who.

The first time I was able to slip a wire hanger through the window which I'd left cracked about an inch and a half, and after much finagling I caught and and pulled the lock lever. Since then, I've kept a spare key in my wallet. It doesn't take up much space, and it sure comes in handy.

Did you see any label anywhere to this effect: "Consumption of the contents of this bag may result in elevated Romance Levels. If you experience this effect, contact your Significant Other immediately. No official agency has verified these statements... but what do they know about romance anyway?" ??? "Healthcare" passed the House, and...

...I paid a dollar this morning to “dry” my laundry on the no-heat cycle. (Yeah, there's a relationship there).

But, I found a bicentennial quarter in my roll of quarters. I thought, well, that'd be a cool thing to give Zach when I get back up to PA. (I also had a US “state” quarter with Puerto Rico on it!? Who made that call?)

But then I had to add Zach's bicentennial quarter to my last-remaining three quarters to actually dry my laundry on the heat cycle.

Sorry Zach. See you soon ;)

Now hey, I used the shared porch rail at my former apartment in the low-income-housing ghetto. Fortunately, the neighbors didn't covet my style, and I kept all my socks.

But since splitting a 1 bdr apt in the ritzy side of town a few months back, this complex's reg's prohibit drying laundry on the shared porches-- so for now it's the washeteria dryers. :( (But only until I get my 'wall of style' built out of my old bunk-bed; said wall may double as a clothes drying rack.)
