Summary

Well, we had a wonderful holiday season. Always lots of fun to have time with my family. We had a great week at home with everyone! Eden is 6 yrs old now, (how that happened so quickly we still don't know) and is loving kindergarten. She has a new assistant teacher, Miss Johnson. She is very sweet too, and Eden likes her but really misses Miss Moore. She got the sweetest note from her at her last day. Abigail is still loving preschool. She thinks it is fun to go to school, she just doesn't like to put any extra effort into her school work. She is so different from Eden in that way. It is interesting to see the differences in the two of them. Isabel is lots of fun. She is a great helper with the little boy I babysit. She loves to laugh and make us laugh. She is such a clown sometimes. She is definitely the baby of the family. We have really noticed lately that we all, girls included, like to help her do things. She knows we will help her too...such a bad thing sometimes.

Eric is busy with work. He had a excellent first year as a Branch manager. His branch is 9th in the company! There are around 400 branches. So his hardwork and of the employees really paid off! I think there were quite a few people watching him last year to see how things were going to go, with him being so young, given the largest branch in his district. One of the benefits we will receive because of his hard work and keeping the branch at or above goals, he gets to go on the company trip in March. I get to go with him, so we are both very excited about it. The trip this year is to HAWAII! Yep, can't wait!

I've been staying busy teaching the 1st & 2nd grade bible class with my friend Rachel. They keep us on our toes! It has been alot of fun for me. I'm still keeping Jacob 3 days a week. I've had him a year and it is amazing to look back at pictures and see how much he has grown and learned since I started watching him. He is such a well behaved little man and Isabel just adores her buddyboy! I'm very grateful for Eric's job and that it allows me to stay home with my girls and participate in their school activities. Also I get to earn a little money by babysitting Jacob and in March I will get to start watching a baby girl, Taylor, a couple of days a week as well. Both of the kids are neighbors so I think we have been blessed to have the neighbors we have and the influence we have been able to have with them. I was asked to keep Taylor because her parents knew I would help teach her to love God and be a good person. (Her parents are not religious but wanting someone to help teach their daughter...) This could be an opportunity Eric and I have been praying for with our neighbors....

I guess that is all the news for now.

We're fine. Mark just got home from a trip to TX this past week. It was a hard week without him, especially for Seth. Mom came and stayed with us though, so that helped. The fam was in the weekend before that celebrating Seth's bday. My grandpa even came and he was excited to hear Mark preach! That is the 1st time in my whole live he has ever been to church with us. We're happy that some seed was planted and praying that God will give the increase. I haven't talked to Julie yet, but I plan to call her this week. I did talk to Tolly recently and she said Mike and Kim had a baby boy earlier this month. I don't know if you remember them or not. I guess that's all. :)

Hawaii is too cool!! Y'all sound like you're doing good. It's hard to have the kids in school, isn't it? It just makes them seem so old!!

Do you have an opinion on...

Bible translations for kids? I need to get Eden and Abigail new Bibles for their class at church and I'm going back and forth between ESV and NKJV.... not sure which is easier for kids to understand when reading and easier to read...or maybe there is another version that would be good? My girls are 5 & 4... just wondering which to purchase. thanks for your thoughts!
  • bamagalintn
It's my understanding that some of the private schools are reccomending the NKJV. I actually just purchased NKJV for my kids. I have used the ESV some in my studies, but I'm not sure if I prefer it over NKJV.

We just bought Ashton a great Bible...it's a childrens Bible it's the NIV easy readers version. I really love it. Actually Shawn and I use it ourselves all the time because it's so easy to read :) Here is the link so you can see what it looks like. http://www.amazon.com/NIrV-Discoverers-Bible-Young-Readers/dp/0310703824/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b

So far, we've found no reason to not approve it. I would highly recommend it!

We prefer to use the ESV with the kids. I personally like to read from the NKJV, but the ESV seems like an easier read. According to John, ESV is the most literal translation...not that that matters as much with kids. It may be helpful if you ask your preacher what version he preaches from...I know our Sarah prefers to read from what John uses while he preaches, just makes it easier for her to follow along. Good luck!!! :-)

Seth also likes to use what the preacher uses; it's much easier for him to follow along. Let me know what you end up getting and how you like it. We'll probably be buying something for Hannah soon.

One more thing...Sarah's Bible is the ESV Childrens Bible. I'm pretty sure you can order it from Amazon or Christian Book Distributors. Word of warning...don't get the hard cover, Sarah has had hers less than a year and the binding is already broken. I think that's it...I have a husband who is very interested in Bible translations, etc. He does lots of research!!! :-)

Matt likes for Jonathan and Ethan to have the NIV. He feels that it's easier for the boys to interpet than the old English of the NKJV. I personally prefer the NKJV.

As a Bible class teacher, it's easier if the kids all have the same translation. Maybe you could get their input.

If you are planning on reading with them at home, you may want to get them one that is the same version as your own. I had never thought of that when we bought our girls their Bibles and now I have trouble sometimes when we read together.

She'll be a Daisy

Yep, all of you that understand that title, I think Eden will love it. For those of you that don't have any clue, Eden is signing up for Girl Scouts tonight, I guess that means I am too :) I never did girl scouts so this will be a new experience for me as well. She is excited and looking forward to being like some of her older friends. Not sure what to expect tonight at the sign up and meeting but I think we will have a lot of fun bonding with Girl Scouts. She likes that she gets to be a Daisy.

Did any of you go through Girl Scouts? How long did you stay with it? Do you remember costs, activities...I really have NO CLUE what we are getting into, but it always looked like fun!
  • florafam
Ahhh! I loved girl scouts!! I learned to french braid hair, got a badge! Went camping at camp Judy Lane and went polar bear swimming, got a badge! How exciting! Lot's of great memories in the making!! Enjoy!

I did girl scouts for a long time, I think until like 8th grade! They didn't have daisies back then, though; I started as a brownie. I think she'll have fun. Are you going to be a leader or just help out and stuff? I have no idea how the costs have changed, but we did lots of really cool things with our troop.

I was a brownie for a long time. I absolutely loved selling cookies, but probably drove my parents nuts trying to sell them. Lots of fun activities and community work. I think she will love it!

Hi! I just wanted to let you know I did not get the job and I'm okay with it. I will keep trying tho' and appreciate your prayers.

My mom wouldn't lead Girl Scouts, so I never got to be in it. So, I was determined to have my girls in it and I was a leader for them. We did lots of fun things and the girls earned lots of badges. Parents can be trying...I just did Brownies, the older girls things seemed too hard for me to lead in. I loved selling the cookies, more than my kids I think.

One word of warning tho', they allow lesbians in it now as leaders, so just make sure you stay involved so you know who the leaders are. The Boy Scouts as far as I know haven't caved into the pressure to allow homosexuals be leaders in their organization. They are completely different organizations even tho' they would seemingly be the same...you know children in uniforms with organized activities, etc., but they are definitely different organizations.

I hope you enjoy this activity with your daughter. It looks like you have a beautiful family!!

Aw, that's so great for her! Hope you have fun with it!! I was a Brownie and really loved it. :)

Sadness

Received word from my mom that Josh, Tabitha Smith lost Samuel last night. Samuel was 4 months old. I know there is joy that he is no longer suffering here on this earth and gets to be those in Heaven, but as a mother I can't imagine the emptiness she feels not being able to hold this son in her arms anymore. Samuel was born with numerous defects that were not known until his birth (on time). They had to put him on oxygen Wednesday to help him breath but early this morning his little body couldn't hang on any longer. Please say a prayer on their behalf, I know they would appreciate it. Samuel's older brother Wyatt (21 months) isn't able to understand all of this but he will miss his little brother, he sure adored him.

Starting School

Today is Eden's first day of Kindergarten...lots of thoughts go through my head about her growing up. She was so excited this morning! Eric has really done a great job of showing her how important school is and how excited he is for her. He is so proud of his little girl (all of them but focusing on Eden today). I have to admit it was hard on me to drop her off at school and then leave knowing she would be there ALL day. I tried hard not to cry in front of her, but didn't make it. She saw the tears streaming down my face. She was sitting at her desk which is tabled with 3 other kids, coloring an apple picture when we left. She was not talking to anyone, even us once we walked into the school. She was scared and nervous and anxious and excited all in one. I know she'll do fine and she will really enjoy being in school. She did well with preschool and will love her teachers this year. It is just hard seeing your children grow up. I'm so very proud of her! She is a wonderful little girl, very polite and helpful. She always wants to make you happy and tries her best at everything she does.

We took pictures at school and before. She held up her kindergarten sign outside of the house. It will be her first page in her school scrapbook. I'll do one each year through high school. It is a 12X12 paper with Kindergarten 2009-2010. She wrote her name in ink at the bottom and her handprints at the top. It will be neat to see how she changes each year :)

Well, in two weeks I'll get to do this all over again, Abigail will start preschool, 3 mornings a week 9-12. She is really excited about it! I know she'll do fine too. I'll be a mess that morning as well :)

Happy first day of school to those of you experiencing it today, last week and coming up!

I feel for you girl!! It was SO hard to send Shad off!! Now he's an old pro but I still worry about him til he gets settled in a new class. And Kalee will go this year too! I have til next week though so I'm trying not to think about it yet!! I just pray for them throughout the day and try to cherish each moment! Let us know how it went!!

Everything is still up in the air for Hannah. I'm trying really hard not to stress about it, but they actually told us we won't know anything until after the 1st day of school which is tomorrow. Everything is just strange right now.

I'm glad Eden's day got off to a good start. I know how hard it is on the mom, though.

Did you hear about Terra? Triplets!!!

Update on Hannah: The principal called shortly after I wrote before and asked us to bring her in tomorrow afternoon for a screening and if she passes we assume she will be able to start right away. She said they will definitely have room for her. I'm thankful for finally having some information we can work with, but I'm kind of a mess right now. I'm the type of person who needs time to adjust to major life changes. It looks like I may have one day to get mentally ready for this.

I know the feeling. I think last night was harder for me because of the poem her teacher gave us. Payton rode the bus this morning and was so excited about it but of course Jonathan and I got in our car and went up to the school. We got to take pictures inside of her classroom at her desk. I am sure they are at school having a great time. It will be great to see them when they get home and hear about their day and have a snack with them.

I hope today went well. Isaac started last Tuesday and came home with a fever, then vomiting on the first day of school. Needless to say, he had a rough day. He missed day 2 & 3 with bronchitus. Friday was better and this week he has been loving it. He is going to an after school program until I get off of work. This week they are cooking with them every afternoon!

Things are going well with me, thanks. And yea, Starla has lots to do with that. I've been in Indiana for 1 1/2 yrs and am thankful to be here in lots of ways. I bought a house about a year ago, so am basically settled (as much as I'll ever be as long as its just me there). If Fat Tub ever needs a place to stay, I can defintiely rent a room or two out to him. Got to see all the kids (Jonathan & Tanya's) Saturday and had a blast with them. They're about 3 hrs away, so its been nice to see them on a semi-regular basis. Starla lives in the same general area, so when I go see her, sometimes we drop in on the fam in Louisville--has worked quite nicely.
