Happy Valentines Day!

Hope it's sweet. :)

We made lasagna for my dad for today, which was a bit of work; we even made our own noodles. My mom's planning to make a chocolate dessert, too. I got a nice card from my dad, but I still have to figure out what I'm going to do. How was your day? I'm curious what you all did.

James and I like to get a box of fancy chocolates (this year it was truffles from a sweet shop downtown) and sit down together with coffee and sample the chocolates. We did that this afternoon while the kids napped. After church tonight we had friends over for dinner. It was a lovely day and was made even better by the fact that we woke up to snow- but just enough to cover things and still keep the roads clear.

Did you know about Kelsey Harris? Happy Day was her birthday and her family celebrated happy day now on it- her favorite meal for dinner and no complaining/whining all day- just be happy! I also wore my Kelsey quote t-shirt. If you don't know about her and her story then look on my group list for Praying_for_Kelsey and the top group discussion explains a little more.

Old pictures

Last night I was looking at some of our old family pictures. I think it is one of the most interesting things to do! It's amazing how different people and things looked, and I ended up exclaiming over how cute somebody was when they were so little, or how small the trees in our front yard were back then. The pictures I looked at last night were from 1996 and '97. It brought back good memories of when the four of us kids were at home together. What are some of your favorite old photos?
  • littlelamb
I was actually doing this the other day, but with pictures that are only a couple of years old. Rosie is only 5 and yet her baby pictures are so nostalgic. Even the pictures from a year ago- Liam was such a baby and now he's a little boy! I can't believe my active mind has already forgotten what it was like just a year ago. I'm so thankful for digital cameras!

I love seeing pictures from when me, Stephanie, Jackie and Sheana were little. (I don't have any where your sister is in them) I have so many good memories of my friends back from my childhood and I love getting that warm, fuzzy feeling when I get to look at a picture and it sends me back to that moment. Hard to believe that I'm 30 years old and these memories were so long ago! Very sad, too.

Link to one of my stories

If anybody is interested in reading a story I wrote, you can find it here: http://www.pleonast.com/groups/pleo_authors/entries/557856-esther-s-friend. Copy and paste the web address. I finished the story very recently; I actually managed to finish a story and keep it relatively short! As in, not fifty+ pages or something. :) (I think this one was seven pages on Word.) The story is about a thirteen year-old girl named Esther who just moved away from all her old friends to a new town. It's sort-of aimed at that age group, but anybody can read it, and hopefully older people will enjoy it, too. You can tell me what you like and don't like about it if you care to.

Oh Susan... I remember you as a little girl at camp and they had a skit and Andy and David fought over who would have you on their team in Bible Bowl. You were the tiniest thing and so brilliant! Love you!!!

Well, Rosie got to start really young- as soon as she was big enough for the smallest violin they make. She's been taking lessons for a year and a half. That was thanks to Carolyn's influence. :)

October

Hello everybody, how are you all doing? (I really want to know). I'm doing okay here; I got a little bit of a cold, though, and I need to make some big decisions, which is really hard for me. So if you'd care to pray for me about that, I'd appreciate it. :)

I started volunteering at a resale shop not too long ago. They sell men's, women's and children's clothing; furniture, housewares, books, all kinds of things. I've pretty much been doing whatever they need done--sorting donations, hanging and putting out clothes, fixing disorganized clothing racks, putting out books and other things. I also sometimes volunteer at "the Clayson House," an old historical house right on the next block from my house. It was built in 1873 and the historical society restored the house to look like it did originally. They have it decorated that way and have antique items in the house that different people have donated. We give free tours of the house to people who stop by to see it. Actually I haven't done much yet in the way of tour-giving. I helped a little bit when a few cub scouts and their parents came.

I'm still trying to write. I put my big book on hold for now, though. I decided to try improving my writing with short stories first. Keeping the story short could be a little bit challenging for me, but if it's short, it'll be a lot easier to work with, share with other people, revise, etc. So now I have resumed another story that I started years ago. This one is about two teenage girls who discover another world. My plan is to keep the story fairly short. We'll see how I do with that!

I think I'll stop with this for now. Have a great day! :D

I am very tired, but extremely blessed. The weather here is cooling down (finally) and I have a break from school coming up soon. Writing a book takes a lot of time. I haven't made much progress on mine since this summer. I want to finish it though, even if I never show it to anyone. I'm writing it because it is about someone dealing with similar struggles to mine. I will be praying for you as you make the choices ahead of you. Remember that God's plans are not always the obivious ones.
