Reason for new post

Well, I haven't posted since I became a nurse... what, almost 3 years ago? However, today I have a reason that I cannot keep to myself...

J became a Christian today. I am beside myself with excitement! Please praise God with me! I have prayed for this as long as we have been together... almost 4 years! PRAISE GOD!

Sigh... (of relief)

Wow. I took the NCLEX-RN on Monday morning. One test after many years of college to tell the world whether I am competent enough to be a nurse.

I went into the test feeling pretty confident--I have studied for the past two years for it, I've done almost nothing but study this summer, and, best of all, I had tons of people praying for me.

First question, my heart sank a little. Second question, I tried to slow my racing heart down. How could I not know the answers?? By the 30th question, I needed to go to the rest room for a break, to calm down, and pray. I got my escort and my ID and left. I prayed. I returned to my computer. I took more questions with a progressive sinking feeling. I was sweating.

You get between 75 and 265 questions on the NCLEX. The computer shuts off when it knows with 95% certainty that you are competent or that you are not. I don't know many people who finish at 75 questions. Most people say that if your computer shuts off at 75, you've passed.

My computer shut off at 75.

I was devastated. I just stared at the screen. I didn't know the answer to SO many questions!! I was sure that the computer only needed 75 questions to know that I am a complete idiot!

Then the waiting began. You can wait 4 weeks for the results to be mailed to you or you can pay $8 to get your results in 2 days.

I tried to be logical in these 2 days of waiting. After all, I had studied for years for this. I've gotten good grades. I did well on all the practice tests. Most importantly, I prayed and so did so many other people. I still had my doubts though. What if it wasn't God's will for me to pass this time? It was only 75 questions!!!!

Then, today, I found out.

I passed!!

Praise God! Thank every one of you who prayed for me. Now, please help me give thanks to God! I am now E. Elizabeth Legacki, RN.

Stacy Angell said it best, "That test can break a person."

Congratulations!! I had to wait 8 days to get my results. TN doesn't participate in the 2 day online results reporting stuff. It was torture!! When I finally found out I had passed, my brother said "good, now you can quit moping around." I had been pretty difficult to live with that week :)

I mean, really...

Do you have any idea how much I LOVE studying for hours everyday for the NCLEX? I especially LOVE all the studying since I've already graduated. Shouldn't a BSN be enough?
  • mjintexas
Yes, yes it should. But how does one get tired of studying?? :)
