confused and need input
Preface: I ask this question not to try and divide, but to understand
Last night our new deacon emailed me (and everyone at church with an email) telling us about how the curriculum of the bible classes would change. The gest is a woman at church knows 2 women at another church who have a class plan for all kids K-12 and will come teach it to our church, at the building on a Monday night.
This greatly surprised me. When I joined this type of church, they were very careful on how we use the building. Everything had to be "authorized". I'm NOT trying to stir up problems. I simply do not understand. Also, I find it a bit odd that women will teach us what to teach. Why don't our elders do that? I was told by the deacon I asked that it's "OK because there will be no 'scriptural' teaching." but to me it will be. What's more spiritual than telling kids what to study? I'd worry about ANYONE coming in as a "committee" to do this, let alone a group of women.
I don't want to be alarmist at all. I know I see problems in the church far too often and should give people the benefit of the doubt. I just want to seek feedback because I don't want to go too far the other way and just sit on the back pew and let anything go.
I have just seen this before in the mainsream church. Let a woman or outside man come in and "speak" as a guest on an off day. That happens more often then it's a Wednesday night, then Sunday. I don't want to end up like the giant "church of Christ" down the road that let a Jewish psychiatrist/author lead the church on a Sunday night when I visited.

Well, I'd have to agree with you. That is a little odd and does sound wrong to me too. If you have elders, they should be shepherding the flock as we read in the New Testament. Not really sure why the committee, there's no mention of a committee in the New Testament church. -
And yes, on the verse. We all need to remember that verse everyday of our lives. -
Hi, no I haven't heard the minister you referred too. There are so many who have left the authority of our Lord. We have to remain on guard and continue to search the scriptures and try the spirits. We only have 3 members here since my children are grown and have moved away. We hope to set up studies and reach others in the community. I checked findthechurch.com and didn't see any churches listed around Nashville. I'm from west TN. We moved in 1998 to NC and then to SC in 2001 because of my husband's work. I really miss being near other Christians. -
Have you been to Broadmoor church of Christ? -
What is your definition of "mainstream"? -
It's a popularity contest. You are probably right that we shouldn't use the term liberal and conservative. We are either walking with God or not. Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus stated, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many therebe which go in thereat. Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth to life, and few there be that find it."
