Second Round of Jessi's Second Annual March Madness: TV Edition!

There were some close battles in that first round! I was even upset by how some of the shows were matched up against each other.
I was a bit upset that Grey's Anatomy beat out West Wing...but that's the democratic process for you!
But trust me, these match ups are even tougher! Some of them are HARD. Esp. the first one.

Also, there are three shows that I completely forgot about putting in the bracket, and I feel totally stupid about it.
They are: Psych, Monk and Quantum Leap. What was I thinking?

So those of you coming into this in the second round:

"Ok guys, so here we go. As most (if not all) of you know, just like last year, it is March Madness time. I felt that since I could care less about this year's NCAA basketball tourny, but still very much enjoy competition...I have decided to make my own bracket of fantastic television shows and see who you, lovely pleoland, believe deserves to be #1. Last years competition went over so well, I wondered if there was that same competitive spirit for TV."

64 shows are now down to 32.

So for those of you who would like to participate, I will post the second round: 16 match-ups, and you all can vote in each match-up to see who goes to the next round!
Even if you aren't on my friend's list and happen upon this page, go ahead, give me your thoughts on the matter.
You can vote for all the match-ups or just a few, it doesn't matter.
**Per Miriam's suggestion from last year: PS: For those who have yet to do this, just copy/paste Jessi's list and delete the one you don't want. Easier than scrolling up and down.

Don't forget to comment on those shows that lost the last round.

Let's get it on!

Jessi's Second Annual March Madness: TV Edition

Ok guys, so here we go. Last years competition went over so well, I wondered if there was that same competitive spirit for TV.

I came up with 64 shows, all from network television so if you are looking for The Sopranos, Sex in the City, Dead Like Me, Dexter or Six Feet Under, they aren't on this list. There are no "reality shows" or any cool shows on Discovery or A&E. I kept it network.

Anyway, I tried my best to pick shows that represent a wide variety of interests and genres. But I'm going to be honest. This list is VERY subjective. If it isn't monumentally iconic or I don't like the show in some way or the other, I didn't put it in the bracket. Well, that's not entirely true. I don't like all the shows on the list, but I know those that do, so I put them on here. Also, I kinda went with seeds, but after awhile it got too hard. So don't give me grief if you think I ranked a great show too low and the match ups are too hard at the beginning of the tourny. But I think I did a pretty good job.

So for those of you who would like to participate, I will post the first round: 32 match-ups, and you all can vote in each match-up to see who goes to the next round!
Even if you aren't on my friend's list and happen upon this page, go ahead, give me your thoughts on the matter.
You can vote for all the match-ups or just a few, it doesn't matter.

There were some shows I've never seen, so I just blanked those out entirely. Only one -- the first one -- I just couldn't decided. They were both my favorite shows in the period of time they were shown (and vastly different periods in my life).

I've never done this before. It was very interesting.

PS: How do you have time to do this when you just moved?

Without Lineage (and now for something completely different)

I know he was a very enigmatic figure in the Bible. But who WAS Melchizedek?
He was King of Salem.
He was Priest of the Most High God.

In Psalms Jesus is there identified as a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.

But it's Hebrews that is the most interesting:
7:3 "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually."

I know that we could only speculate as to who he was.
I just know I would LOVE more info on the guy.
Very interesting figure, for sure.

While Melchizedek is interesting, it is not likely that the Hebrew author is arguing that he does not have, in reality, parents or lineage or any such thing. Instead, he emphasizes how Melchizedek is presented on his own without any indication that he received his status by heritage or any other such thing. His priesthood is not passed on, nor was it inherited, and that is why the Psalmist uses it as a type for the high priesthood of Jesus.

In other words, it didn't matter who his parents were or were not - he still lived a life devoted to God. So, he's a great example for all of us - regardless who your parents are and how (un)faithful they are, YOU can put your life WHOLLY in God's hands!

I think it's also interesting that this proves there were priests that were NOT Levites or Israelites. Moses' father-in-law, Jethro, was also identified as a priest of God. It appears that whatever law God set in motion with the patriarchs, who were NOT Jews, since it wasn't until after Jacob's name was changed to Israel that there was even a separate nation, there were faithful followers of God. Even from the beginning, God never intended His children to be only Israelites. His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob always said that ALL the nations of the earth would receive the blessing (of the Savior). Rom. 2:14: "For when the Gentiles, which have not the law [i.e., Law of Moses], do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves." I think that means that there were Gentiles who lived before Christ who were saved by the blood of Christ, because they were living righteously in accordance with the original commandments of God. I think that also goes to show that God is no respector of persons.

New Chapter

With more help than I could have ever imagined, Alex and I are now finally tucked away into our little corner of Iowa. Mom, Dad and Angela all came with us to help us move in and get us going. Angela was a MONSTER in terms of moving and cleaning. She is amazing!

The past two days I have been busy, busy, busy. Running here there and everywhere making sure that we have water, electricity, provisions, this and that for the apartment. And just getting us started on our new life.

The apartment is nice, but the lady that was there before us DID NOT have our taste in colors. I already painted over the horrid pastel peach that was in the majority of the apartment. I would rather have plain white than that. (And the bedroom is a pale, baby pink...that will be the next to go!)

Our cat, Helio, slept the ENTIRE way to Iowa. I was concerned that he wouldn't travel well. But he's like his uncle Josh. He wasn't driving, so he was sleeping.

I start my new job tomorrow at the library and I am super excited!

Long term plans:
Greg left Alex the house. When all is said and done, and all the legal paperwork is signed and turned in....we will have a house that is completely paid off.
However, there is A LOT, and I mean A LOT, of work that needs to be done on it. So while I am not working at the library, I will be here at our new house trying to get it fixed and livable.

We will continue to live in the apartment for the duration of the year lease, and Lord willing, during that time get the house in order.
There is so much work to be done. We are slightly overwhelmed.
But we have a house.
So we are going to work with it as best we can.

Things are exciting here.
New things around every corner.

Here's to doing the best with what ya got!

Is that's what's called the silver lining that every cloud's suppose to have? I hope you like the house enough to do a lot of work on it. Sometimes the old ones are so much roomier than the newer ones and have lots of features that add to the charm.

I'm glad to hear that the move was made without a lot of trouble and that you are excited about your new job. I'm anxious to hear how that goes.

Is this where Alex grew up or are you going to have to get to know where everything is (in the town) together?

Praying that things continue to go well for you.

Gregory Smith Wakefield: Feb 23, 1947 - March 2, 2010

Cancer has taken another victim.

Greg passed away this morning around 8:30.
He was surrounded by loved ones.

Alex was there and able to say goodbye to his papa.

Alex was there for his father, and I'm sure it meant more than words can express to his father. Now you can be there for Alex. He'll need you so much now. I don't know how close you got to Mr. Wakefield; maybe your hurt is hurting for the end of that relationship, too. Take care of each other, and may God give you the strength to help you through it all. "Lean not on your own understanding." You never know for sure what this will all lead to.
